Blowing In The Wind
This wind! It's "Wizard of Oz" wind. It whistles like an old man talking through a chipped tooth. It's pretty crazy. I don't really know what to make of it. They say on the news it'll die down by tomorrow, but it woke me up again last night. It's the raccoon version of wind...it only comes out at night. I'm proud of the boys for not even noticing it. They've slept straight through, even when all those branches blew down a few nights ago. But it's waking me up and frankly, I'm tired of it. It makes me want to have a glass of warm milk when it wakes me up at night even though it's a "warm wind." This is a hard concept for me. Wind = Chilly to me. And then I have to pee because I can't be up for more than nine seconds without having to pee. It's a whole thing.

The wind must have kept Barb up the other night too or she was afraid it was keeping Nell up or something because when I woke up and was en route (my new favorite phrase that I love putting in italics) to the loo, Barb was in Nell's room holding her. Come to think of it, it wasn't even really blowing that bad that night...not as bad as the others, but Barb was up and was with Nell and it was so sweet my heart felt like a warm and gooey brownie right out of the oven. It was one of those times I wish I was just a little ladybug or something and I could walk in the room and just watch and watch and watch and never be seen or interrupt the awesomeness that I was witnessing. It doesn't matter one bit but I wonder why she was still up (Barb, I mean). It wasn't late - Bill was still out (I'll get to that in a second) - but Barb and I both decided right after dinner that we were gonna hit the sack early, me after a long bath. She didn't mention that the wind kept or woke her up...but then again, I didn't ask her. I wasn't gonna ruin it. She was holding Nell like she was put on this earth to hold Nell. It was a really neat moment for me.

We stayed up for a while after that and she still never mentioned the wind. (Why am I so into cracking this case? Geez. Why does it matter? Maybe she just woke up and said, "you know what? I wanna hold Nell so I'm gonna go and hold Nell for a while." And that's just what she did. It doesn't matter.)

So we decided to wait up for Bill and it was fun because we don't get much mano-y-mano time to ourselves. (Does that mean "man to man?" If so, what's the female-to-female version?)1 She was more talkative than normal. She told a story about her and Cindy, when they were kids, that's made a giggle each time I've thought about it since - not that it's like super hilarious, but...their dad had just gotten this new, big car and it was all fancy and it was the family's pride and joy, but it was also the thing their dad obsessed over every minute for the first year they had it. So, during the first summer they had it, she and Cindy begged their dad to take them to go get ice cream at this place they loved. Cindy made this huge fuss about not being able to finish her double scoop cone before their dad was ready to leave and he finally gave in and let her take it in the car if she swore not to let one drop drip off that cone. Well, in the car, Cindy had kinda forgotten about her promise she started doing what she always did in the backseat of cars, which was tickle Barb in the ribs so hard she couldn't breathe. Obviously, Barb would squirm and wiggle, and Cindy would keep trying to get her ribs...and finally, that second scoop rolled off the cone and smacked down in between them in the middle seat with a splat. Barb was cracking up telling me how big Cindy's eyes got when she looked down and said, "Dad," with the softest little voice ever. Her dad turned around, saw the scoop of peppermint chip sitting there on the seat, grinded his teeth, grabbed the scoop like a baseball, and threw it out of the back window on Cindy's side...all in one furiously intense motion (Barb does a great reenactment of this, by the way). Then, he wiped his hand on his pants and said, without turning around, "You're grounded forever." Eventually, her sentence was reduced thanks to her mom's negotiating but apparently that was a Dutton story for the ages. I wonder when the last time Barb told that story was, though. Her eyes lit up telling it. That was kinda neat. I like when you can tell someone's reliving a story as they're telling it...they're so connected to it...it just makes it so much more fun to listen to.

What wasn't fun to listen to and what kinda killed the otherwise nice mood of this late night girl-fest was Bill coming home and telling us that it was over with Ana. That was a bombshell. We knew he was with her and I was gonna be awesome about letting him talk and then awesome about letting Barb do her "It's all of us or none of us" thing, but then I was gonna smooth everything over like only I can by just telling everyone to calm down and come up with some compromise everyone can live with. BUT...never got a chance! He looked terrible. He looked...I don't know how to describe him. He looked exhausted and beaten up. But he seemed pretty convinced. So, we all went to bed all tense but then she showed up at the block party2 all out of nowhere and now it's looking like things are back on. So, who knows? I thought I could be the magic conductor of their relationship but it might be harder than I thought. Those two are volatile! Man! I don't know if anyone can wrangle them. Gosh, I want it to work out between them and I'm definitely not gonna stop being the little helper I know I can be but...I don't know. To use a Bill phrase, "it's like herding cats" with those two. I have to be able to adapt to their all-over-the-place temperaments. I have to be able to adjust strategies, depending on the circumstance...depending on who's fired up about what, when. Oh, it's tough being me...but someone has to be. And besides...I like it. :)

Talk Soon!!
Margie.

1I Wikipedia-ed this after the fact and don't really want to change it, but might as well learn you a little bit, Internet. It's not "man to man" at all, so, of course there's no female version. It means "hand to hand" and is "mano-A-mano." Never knew that. Apparently, people mess that up all the time so I don't feel as bad about not going back and correcting it. I mean, if I said, Ben and Bill went on a camping trip for some "mano-y-mano" time before Ben leaves for college or something, you'd get what I mean, right? Anyway...sorry.

2We went to the annual block party. Not too many details to worry about. It was fun. But not exactly the place we thought Ana would crash to say she wants to date us all. Anyway...

I think Margie & Ana are going to have a nice drinking/pj party when Ben will walk in & catch them!!!
The first rate writing on this show (and on Margene's blog) keep the characters of Big Love alive! Kudo's to HBO for their commitment to the intelligence of the Big Love viewer. People seldom remember that without a script to give her a core of life, Margene would not be.

Hello Margene,
My husband and I love the show, we have only started watching since last season and we are wondering whos children are whos? we know their are 8 total but we don't know whos the mother of who, can you help us out. tell everyone hello. big fan Teaspoontammy
Margine,

Me and my husband think that you are adorable. I asked him if he wants a 2nd wife. He looked at me like I was nuts and said, I cant see you putting up with that! I agreed.

My question for you is of your religious beliefs. I'm kinda confused. How did you grow up? Is your family religious and did Bill teach you the principle when he was interested in you?

Also, where's your dad?

You don't have to answer that last one if you don't want to!

Thanks-Corinne
Hi Margi, I think you are so sweet and fun and adventurous and while not always portrayed as the sharpest tool in the shed, I would consider you "dumb like a fox" as my grandfather used to say, and the new venture with Weber Gaming is going to be your time to shine!
I agree that Nikki seems different this season. Perhaps it has something to do with her speech from the rooftop during the block party. As if while she was speaking up and telling a few white lies to protect her family she also had her own small epiphany that in order to protect her life as she knows and has come to love outside of Juniper Creek, she may have to step down from her soap box for a spell. And I cannot wait to see how she's going to talk her way out of stealing all that money from her dad!
My prayers go out to Barb as I find her the most vulnerable at this time. I feel she is struggling the most because her children are at the age where they are starting to ask the hard questions about their lifestyle. She is torn because her son is embracing it and her oldest daughter who is defying it - how does she explain to them which one is right without betraying herself? No to mention the possibility that her cancer has returned!
Ohh, and I say Ana is a phase, and Margi as much as I know your heart is set on her joining your family, you're going to have to let her go. You want her for yourself more than the whole family but you'll have plenty to keep you busy with Weber Gaming soon enough!
Hey Margini!

Has anyone ever told you you look just like the woman who played Johnny Cash's wife in , "Walk the Line"?

Love the show. You're so much fun to watch. Nikky cracks me up and Barb is so beautiful. So who will lose a night if Ana joins the family?

Tell Bill I'm available. I'd love to be a 5th wife!

Take care. Kiss Nell for me.

Love,
Patty
Hi Margie,
I hope Big Love never goes off the air like the Soprano's!!!!!!!!!
I'm sooooooo glad Ana's back, just wish it wasn't such a rush; like we left off it was over, & we're back like it never was over. Also I wish the we could have been there for the birth of Nell. I don't see the wives loving all the kids, nor do I see Bill loving them as when they jump on him he pushes them away. He's not a real loving man; as his entire life is Business & SEX!!! Ok so Ana is the NEW SEX TOY & where is she going to live?
I was hoping that Barb was going to have an affair with JOEY!
I didn't like Nicki on the roof talking like she was God to the neighbors; that was pretty dumb. I notice you still have the same clothes you wore when you were pregnant.
I hope that Sarah will not leave the show, & I hope Bren comes back.
Other then that, I will be watching to see if you start drinking with Ana!!!!!! ;)
One little detail complaint, to the writers of this blog...

I think it's really neat that this blog follows the show in real time, but I live in Utah, and I can tell you that it is not sunny block party weather outside right now! We're covered in snow! Clearly the show is not set in January right now, even though she's posting along. Just thought that should be pointed out, you guys are otherwise very attentive to little details like that.

I feel that each of these woman are strong and have survived all that they have faced due to the fact of their lifestyle,And I feel Ana will add on to that she might not know all there is to know of what she is about to become part of but she will learn just as Margene did,I think people are quick to judge her maybe she doesnt have what it takes to be a fourth wife but maybe she does and we will never know unless she actually takes the steps needed to become a fourth wive,Also It seems to me that if for whatever reason she doesnt make the cut who would be the runner up?
Hi Margie!!!

First of all--You are so HOT!!!! I definitely have a girl crush on you!!! You are also my favorite wife! I admire your spunk and your dexterity dealing with your often hectic and always unpredictable life! I know you've been lonely and needed a friend, and you should know that I'd love to be your friend! (I'm not too far from you--only in Vegas, you should come by and visit, I'll show you around town!).

I also disagree about Ana with other posters. I think Ana is a great woman, pretty and intelligent. I like her as much, if not more, as last season. I think she would make a great 4th wife and a great companion and friend to you, Margie. I'm definitely rooting for her to join your family!

I don't particularly care for Barb (often whiny, not able to take responsibility of her own choice) and Nikki (controlling, not fun, astute). But you are great. And so is Ana. I am really glad that you are back and look forward to commenting more in the future!!!

Love, hugs, and kisses!!!
Griz from Las Vegas
It seems like Bill makes the rules up as he goes along to whatever suits him. Everyone is supposed to do as he says, but it's ok for him to do as he pleases, like with the gambling deal which is against their religion. Or when he and Barb used to sneak off to a hotel. Also, is he going to confess to his wives what he and Ana did? I doubt it - I think she'll tell them somewhere down the road and then they'll be some fireworks!

I was shocked to see Nikki going off to work, however, it's not for the reason of paying off her debts!

I never miss an episode - it's been way too long between seasons. There's so much that has happened between last season and this, they needed to have an episode that sorta bridged the two together.
margie i love your blog! and i'm so glad season three is back! i've been dying for it to come back, i've been watching it from the beginning! i'm so glad that nell was a girl, they needed a another girl in the house after so many boys! i hope barb is ok =(
I have lost any smidge of respect I had for Bill. He likes to claim that he's all about his religion, when it is clearly lust he feels for Ana. So quick to throw her away once he's slept with her, and sleeping with her before marriage...doesn't seem like he's all about his religion to me!!!
I LOVE this show, it always keeps me on the edge of my seat and I am addicted, yes addicted. I have watched this show since the very begining and I hope it never, ever ends. My favoriet is Margene, she was in Walk The Line also and very good I might add.
I loved the new episode last night. I just discovered the show over the summer, and watched every episode on DVD in about 4 days!

I really liked Anna last season, but she seemed different last night. She has a harder edge to her and just seems to be out for a good time. I'm worried that if she's only out for herself that she'll damage what the family has together.

I love the new blog look, thanks for working on making it better!
