I am reconsidering my retirement because of the kind words I have received, even from those bitterly disagreed with and it gave me a lot of hope that there are good things in our communities, our country, and around the world to hold on to but all the media wants to do and certain types of people want to focus on is the negative. They want to become part of the problem not the solution.
The nice thing about the people blogging on this site is they are pretty decent even in the heat of battle and we have insulted each other, but I never felt that people crossed the line. That is what happened to me on the Colbert Nation website.
It seemed like it was a bunch of bitter shit heads that wanted to chop you up no matter what, just to hear themselves talk. They in no way wanted to be objective. It got to the point that racial slurs were lobbed at me and I was called an immigrant because of my blog called "No appreciation for Effort." I am a son of an immigrant and I don't mind people thinking I am an immigrant but it was in the maniacal way it was said. Many on that site took it as I was wanting to foster affirmative action. I was just stating that I was proud as a Latino to see some one appointed to such a high position because I was being honest, I hadn't seen the magnitude of effort by the Democratic party. Yes, there were efforts made by Clinton, but not to the extent of Bush,(And that is my opinion based on the number of high office appointees) yet on the Colbert site they looked at people like Condi Rice and Colin Powell as Uncle Toms.
That was sickening and to be honest what was also sickening that it was the first time I ever had racial slurs lobbed at me. It was a bit of a shock because I didn't grow up focused on color, but more on the quality or crassness of the person.
To Arch 24: Thanks for the words, it was nothing you said that caused my initial retirement. It was mainly things written about my posting on the Colbert site. (It made me realize that I was possibly acting this way toward people on the messageboard on this site) They crossed the line. I don't mind people attacking my views. I can handle that. What I can't stand is people attacking my family, my heritage, and who I am as a person because I believe your views are part of who you are not the total person.
So I definitely want to come back but it will certainly be a different me. A bit more constructive, contemplative, and more tolerant of opposing views.
