I don't normally gravitate towards female artists but I really really like KT Tunstall. Her guitar playing on that Cherry Tree song drew me in, cause I'm a guitarist. And a few of her tunes are just fantastic, brimming with radiant multicolors.
Okay, but in her song "Suddenly I See," she sings:
Her face is a map of the world
Is a map of the world
You can see she's a beautiful girl
She's a beautiful girl
And everything around her is a silver pool of light
The people who surround her feel the benefit of it
It makes you calm
She holds you captivated in her palm
Okay, now when I was in junior high (and kids those age are HUGE consumers of KT Tunstall type artists), when a girl had bad acne, we'd say her face looked like a topographic map. I even heard a guy my age-29-use the term topographic map to describe a chick recently.
So when you say she has a face that looks like a map of the world, and it's beautiful, are you saying that acne is beautiful? What adds to the oddity is that the song itself is just gorgeous in it's colors and chords and harmonies and melodies. Very uplifting.
