Military training tortures & kills animals

"Thousands of healthy animals are used by the military for trauma and chemical-casualty training exercises every year?even though superior non-animal alternatives are available. In the current training exercises, live pigs are shot, stabbed, and burned; live goats have their legs broken with bolt cutters and cut off with shears; and live monkeys are poisoned with harmful chemicals. These barbaric exercises are conducted on many military bases in the U.S. as well as on other bases around the world."

Endanger Right Whale in Crisis

"ScienceDaily (July 27, 2005) ? Ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear are threatening the survival of the North Atlantic right whale, one of the most endangered whales with an estimated population of about 350. With eight recorded deaths in the past 16 months and a population growth rate that has declined since 1980, scientists say that unless emergency management actions are taken the population will face a catastrophic decline and become extinct."

"In a new article published online in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers argue that substantial die-offs of amphibians and other plant and animal species add up to a new mass extinction facing the planet."

One in Four Mammals at Risk of Extinction

One in four of the world's 5,487 known mammal species face extinction, according to a new conservation "report card" unveiled today.

Marine mammals face even steeper odds, with one in three species at risk of disappearing, according to the study.

ScienceDaily.com (June 24, 09), Wildlife Faces Cancer Threat

According to a recently published paper in the July edition of Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Nature Reviews Cancer, information on cancer in wildlife. The article "suggests that cancer poses a major threat to wild animal populations."

The paper states that cancer is the cause of over 10% of human deaths and an equal percentage of wildlife deaths. But unlike humans, whole species of wildlife are nearing extinction due to cancer. Many (most) of the cancers spreading among animal life are due to human pollution of waterways, earth and sky.


Suggestion: Read and learn about environmental issues. Care what is happening in your government and corporate worlds. Give a shit.
