Most Christians I talk to feel that everyone who doesn't believe like they do are going to hell. When I try to explain to them how arrogant that statement is, and how self righteous it makes them sound, they shrug - as if to say to me "Your going to hell"
More wars have been fought over religious beliefs then any other reason know to "civilized" people.
Our founding fathers called for a seperation of church and state for a reason. Do we really want a person elected solely because of their religious belief? Do we vote for someone because of their religious beliefs? If we have someone elected for this reason, or vote because of this reason, how does this seperate us from countries like Iran who are run by religion?
I am not against believing in something. I am not against prayer. Prayer is hope. Religion is another way of keeping checks and balances on the population. Commandments, laws and rules of the religion are usually to help keep a population in line and prevent anarchy and hurtful acts.
Ask yourself this, how many times have you been screwed over by a good church going person? It's ok for them because they will be forgiven, or at least they believe so. That's why Bush can do anything he wants now!! As a religious person, he feels no matter what he does, he will be forgiven as long as he prays....or even worse - thinks God is guiding him to make his choices through his prayer!!! Now that is fanatically scary. I was a die hard Republican until this administration. To much God, not enough common sense. I served in the military under Ronald Reagan, and I still feel he was the best president in my lifetime!! Even though he talked prayer on occasion, he didn't make it his legacy. Bush is making religion his legacy, and that's not what we are here for!!
When it comes time to vote, religious fanatics will vote for the religious candidate, and we will have more wars - with countries without the president's faith, and people who vote for the good of the country will get away from the religious vote, where we will have the opportunity to deal with issues effecting our country now. How will you vote?
