Bravo HBO! You have hit the mark with this one. I find this show refreshing and engaging. I was unsure what to expect, but as I watched, I kept wanting to watch. The cases range from the petty (i.e., the "Dubious Daddy") to the very serious (i.e., the case of the stolen muti, the missing boy, and the witchdoctor), taking you on an adventurous journey, but not in a way that uncomfortably jerks your emotions from high to low. You will enjoy the ride.

And the cast... MAGNIFICENT, especially Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose! In fact, Anika just may be the showstealer. I enjoy the humor which is appropriately woven into the story line. It is wonderful to be able to watch this show with my 12-year old son without having to make him look away or plug his ears with his fingers. I cannot wait for the next episode!

I concur. The show was very good. Great performances were delivered by both lead ladies and the setting was a refreshing locale.

How long ago was this show shot because Minghella & Pollock have been deceased for a while now?

The thick accent made some words hard to hear at first but then it became easier by the second hour.

Not to sound homophobic, but does every show out there have to have a effeminate gay guy in it? He seemed like a stereotypical add-on to the show to me, unless he is a character straight out of the novels. But, even so, he seemed out of place.

The format seems to be solving one main case an episode with the sub-plot being Precious' past life surfacing at times. Great pilot stunning visuals and a show, hopefully, with a good life on HBO. The only thing that might kill it is if it is to expensive to make. Is this another series with only six (6) episodes a season?

loved the show. we are frequent visitors to africa, and the show definitely captures what so much of africa is like.

in particular, we like the music. i tried to catch the names of the songs and artists in the credits at the end of the show, but they went by too fast. how can i view the credits again or save them in a fashion that allows me to see who the artists were and the song titles?

Well Done, HBO!
I only watch a few shows (incl. BSG which just ended), and this has made the cut!

I love this show! I have read a couple of the books and really enjoyed them, and now you've brought them memorably, colorfully, to life.
The characters are fully written and acted, their interactions heartwarming without being at all cornball, and I'm totally entranced watching the country and the colors of everything.
I had almost forgotten to watch this last night until my husband reminded me, and then I kept saying, oh, it's okay, never mind, because I'm just not much of a TV watcher, between kids and work, but I smiled largely, to myself, half the time I was watching it, and kept telling my husband afterwards, thank you for reminding me, thank you so much!
My husband, a fan of The Wire, Deadwood, and the like, is even going to start watching.
I'm sure you have a big hit on your hands.

I really enjoyed watching this Sunday night. All the actors did a great job with their characters. The atmosphere was uplifting and it was just a great feel good show. I thought the secretary was a hoot. Jill Scott did a fantastic job as well.

I LOVE THE NO 1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY ON HBO!!!! I will be watching it EVERY SUNDAY!!!!

I am reading the book now and I find that it is very respective of the movement, feel and images in the story. What I liked most about this is I could sit and watch it with my entire family! (covered the 5 year old's ears when the lady called precious and tart and a slut). it was just funny enough and serious enough to make me want more. My husband, who is from Nigeria, really enjoyed it as there are certain customs and nuances that are similar to his culture. (I think he also appreciated the brother from the wire who Played Charlie Hutsu)

Finally Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose were WONDERFUL!!!! They were funny, thoughtful, beautiful, intelligent, and STRONG!!!! They are the perfect foils for each other. How many times do we get a buddy movie or show with a black woman and the other "buddy" is a BLACK WOMAN?!!!! This show is awesome and I hope will do much to demystify the images that still exist of Africa of chronic hunger, disease and violence. This show illustrated the many moraes, values and social settings that exist in Africa that if we open our minds to them we realize that they are not too dissimilar to our own.

I have said this before but I really do want to be Precious when I grow up. She is confident with herself and sees the best in people, and is so calm!

I had never heard of the book series. Boy did I miss out on something great!

I was intrigued and enchanted by the beautiful people and the gorgeous landscape of Botswana when I watched the pilot last night. I read up on the history of Botswana and it appears to be the least corrupt country on the continent.

I confess, when I saw the school scene towards the end of the show, I almost cried. Not entirely because the school teacher had gotten his son back, but because of the lessons they were teaching the children in the school. "Peace and Tolerance" "I have the right to be loved by my parents" "I have the responsibility to protect others from abuse and harm". Now I can see why they are such polite and loving people. Batswanas are beautiful. I am very impressed by Botsawana.
