School's back in session! Robert Wuhl, the eminent thespian, scribe and pundit, regales us with more of the stories that made up America... and the stories that America simply made up! Tell us what you thought of the show.

I just caught part of this show in my hotel room, and I heard the story about the origin of the middle finger. I've heard this story many times before with slight variations, and I finally bothered to look it up on snopes.com. http://www.snopes.com/language/apocryph/pluckyew.asp Snopes basically says that story is false, and that it's ridiculous to think that it could even be remotely close to the truth. I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on that. Dave

I was a big Arlli$$ fan - and look for them constantly - so when I saw - Assume the Position 101 & 201 - I am so waiting for you all to realize how good this show is - and - it is got to be pretty cheap to put out there as 'reality shows' are the new big thing" Please try to get this going a a weekly thing.

I first stumbled upon the special nearly a year ago (the original one) and immediately recorded it. Then my son and I watched it together (he was 12 at the time). Despite the fact that most other parents would be apalled at my allowing my son to watch something that used such explicit language, it was exactly the type of thinking I want him examine. Too often we regurgitate the crap we were fed as were our parents and their parents. Today's generation is in danger of being more compliant to the spin doctors than say the 50s. I've loved Mr. Wuhl from his standup and his movies and now because of his specials. More, please, we need more!

Error: Get Them Wars Right

My husband and I love the show. However, be careful about not introducing errors when presenting neat facts. William Henry Harrison was not a hero of the Mexican-American War. In fact, he was dead before it ever began. He was a "hero" of many Indian battles, hence "Tippecanoe and Tyler too." He was also remembered for his role War 1812. Zachary Taylor was a the President that became famous because of his role in the Mexican War.

total bush apologist crap! "lousy leaders are as american as apple pie"??? you should be ashamed of yourself! Bush (father and son) are the worst thing to EVER happen to USA. PERIOD. hbo has sunk to a new sell out level with this horrid apologist propaganda! and how hard is it to get the facts straight when citing previous presidents?? too many errors to count.

I would love to see this as a monthly spot. If my college classes were anything like that, I would have graduated. I have watched the show 5 times now. trying to remember the stories to tell friends. Robert Wuhl is extremely funny.

I agree with others who feel that Assume the Position is not only a great show but that it should be on at least monthly, if not weekly. I caught it during today during a free preview weekend. I've been looking for reasons to renew my HBO subscription and I haven't seen any reason to do so in the last two years -- until now.

Yet another rah-rah-rah, We want more Assume The Position

I hope that doing only one show a year isn't Robert's idea. "Assume The Position" is a wonderful bit of programming. It's great that someone's teaching us American history and pop culture, all at once...The Daily Show's great for what happened this week/last week. But the old stuff, the classics seem all dry and irrelevant..till Robert shows us his spin on it. PLEASE, HBO!! Have Robert turn this into a series...Once a month at LEAST!!!!

I agree. One show a year? I set my DVR to tape it thinking it was a weekly show and I couldn't believe it was only a once in a while thing. But I find this show fascinating. It really makes you think about everything we hear and taught. Do I agree with all of his views...no. But that's what a collage class is suppose to do. Make you think about other things. If HBO is reading this..Give us more.

All I'm gonna say is there BETTER be followup shows like this! Loved it! Wished I had guest instructors when I was in college that were like that.

It didn't look to me like the crowd had been cued. I think there may have been some creative editing to insert reaction shots, but that's hardly a reason to complain. I thought the show was funny and thought provoking. I like all of the swearing and the off color language. And here's a news flash, the vast majority of high school kids are already using that language. They don't have virgin ears. If you want something censored for children, go to PBS! It's occasionally nice to have intelligent programming that's geared for a mature audience. The show is his unfiltered and uncensored view of history. It's also a stand up comedy routine. The basic messages, be slow to judge, and we've had a lot of Presidents who've sucked, were pretty well presented. I love the punchline that George Bush is an idiot because he's a direct descendant of Franklin Pierce.
