Band of Brothers is the ten-part miniseries based on Stephen E. Ambrose's best seller about a World War II U.S. Army group.

My favorite episodes in order: 1. Carentan - Best combat scenes from beginning to end. 2. Currahee - The character development and lead-up really set the tone. 3. Day of Days - The ending of Currahee really carries you into this one. Plus the prolonged combat scene at Brecourt Manor was top-notch. 4. Points - wrapped up so eloquently. This episode should have been a double to give it all more time. It reminded me of the end of M*A*S*H. 5. The Breaking Point - Intense. The assault on Foy was really good. 6. The Last Patrol - Something about this episode. Every time it is on I watch it. For the first time I really sensed bitterness among the men which made me feel what they must have been going through. 7. Replacements - Exciting combat scene, but I was expecting more of Market Garden. 8. Crossorads - Interesting episode, but I felt that the part with Winters on R&R was not done well, the rest of the episode was good. The first 5 minutes was very funny. 9. Why We Fight - I was expecting more from the concentration camp scene. Not so much shock, but more feeling. I don't think the actors did a good job conveying the sense of shock the real soldiers must have felt. 10. Bastogne - Total let-down! The defining moment of the 101st and way too much time was spent on Doc. I understand that he was vital, but his time in the spotlight should have been for another episode. What is worse is that if you watch the extra DVD in the set they show you action shots of the big German advance which they tease you with in the episode. That tells me that there is plenty of unseen battle footage shot of the German advance that was replaced with Doc being in the church. Sorry, my least favorite episode. What do you guys think?

Does anyone know what Donald Malarkey did after the war? It isn't mentioned in Stephen Ambrose's book, Band of Brothers. Also it isn't mentioned in the miniseries.

I did not subscribe to HBO when Band of Brothers aired because of young children. Recently I was able to purchase the DVDs. I have not seen anything that brought out the emotions I felt when watching this series. Exceptionally done. My hats off to all involved.

So, the mini-series is 5 years old. I have seen this from end to end about a dozen times now. I guess it is safe to say at this point I am over the utter awe of watching this production and I am now in the critical phase of the show. First, and to get this out of the way, without uestion the most disappointing aspect of this project is HBO's website. Obviously, no one gave much thought to the inifinite levels of potential that the website could have delivered if someone gave it some thought. I still wish that HBO sees the error of their ways and redo this website and regenerate interest in this mini-series. Oh well, enough for now. I'll post more later. I look forward to hearing your commentary.

If my memory serves me correctly, the first episode was aired, then there was 9/11. That overwhelmed the world, and I believe the BOB series, being such a powerful and truth filled series would have made even a larger impact right away, had the horror of 9/11 not been at the forefront of the country. I have the DVD set,, and just watched BOB again on HBO [ wow late nights] This series could easily be an annual Veteran's Day staple, much like the Wizard of Oz is during the holidays,,,,, yet so much more important. -- Edited by PtownBubba at 11/16/2006 10:22 AM

I agree Band of Brothers is by far the most moving program I've ever watched. Admittedly I watch the DVDs regularly--and I mean regularly. It's my 'closet' secret as I watch it when I'm home alone and don't tell anyone else. My youngest son in currently serving in the US Marines. For some reason watching this program makes me feel a little closer to him and what he's experiencing. I sent him a set of the DVDs last Christmas. Who would understand me if I said a war movie helps me to relax. I think I'm hoping my son has loyal friends such as those depicted in this movie. -- ******************************************* The beatings will continue until morale improves.

In my opinion, Band of Brothers is the best show ever aired. I've seen the series from beginning to end three times and individual episodes on the History Channel.

Oh my goodness! I must've visited the HBO Band of Brothers site a million times and i never saw these message boards until just now. I'm 5 years late with this post, but better late than never. I absolutely love Band of Brothers. The entire show, everything about it, it has changed my life, so much for the better. It's amazing. When it aired, I didn't plan to watch it, in fact I was falling asleep and my dad nudged me as a reminder of our religious act of watching HBO Saturday night movies together. I'm so thankful that I saw it. I have never been the same since. Richard Winters is my hero. All the men are a true inspiration who encourage me to be a better person. They are all, as individuals, amazing people with undeniable courage and strength. There is a lot I can say about the show, the parts, the characters, the men, everything, but I would quite literally have to write a book. After Day of Days I was hooked like never before. I got promotional posters and merchandise and bought the soundtrack and DvD as soon as it was available. Gosh, there is too much to say but no way to say it...it's just an amazing mini-series to which I am very thankful to Hanks and Spielberg for letting their stories be shown on a worldwide scale and appreciated to the greatest extent they deserve. There really is no end to how much I love Band of Brothers... Kathy. -- Edited by StarsKay at 09/28/2006 7:45 AM

Currahee Military Weekend. Oct 12-15, 2006 I would like to invite you to attend our third annual Camp Toccoa Reunion and Reenactment Events. Camp Toccoa, now made famous by Band of Brothers, was the birthplace of the 501st, 506th, 507th, 511th, and 517th Parachute Infantry Regiments as well as the 460th Arty Battalion, and 596th Combat Engineers (Airborne). We will have Veterans, or their families, from all these regiments attending, along with Veterans of all conflicts as well as many other units and branches of the U.S. military. This year we are expanding our focus for the reunion and reenactments to include all WWII units, both Allied and Axis. There has been great response throughout the U.S. and Europe. We hope to have several hundred re-enactors from different wars take part along with several military vehicle associations. There will also be displays and aircraft from today’s military. The event will take place at the Toccoa Airport, October 12-15, 2006, with the highlight being the 5th Ranger Training Btln “Rangers In Action” program. One of the Weekend events will be the dedication of the new Currahee Military Museum which is housed in the restored Toccoa train depot, the debarkation point for most of those men who trained here. Tour the stables used for quarters by first A, then E company of the 506th P.I.R brought "across the pond" from Aldbourne England. This $325,000+ ongoing project is being paid for with donations and proceeds from reunions. During the Currahee Military Weekend we will dedicate the Currahee Military Museum to honor all of our Veterans. Those interested may participate in the Currahee Challenge Road Race, the "three miles up and three miles down" we saw in Band of Brothers. This year I am sending invitations to all High Schools, Military Academies and many military colleges urging them to send a class/corps of cadets to the Currahee Military Weekend. We have lost so many veterans in the last few years, this may be the last opportunity to meet and talk with living heroes. Our invitation is extended to everyone: veterans, active duty personnel, military buffs, history buffs and each and every American who wishes to show their pride in all our Veterans. If you know of others who may be interested, please pass along our invitation to them. Photos of 2004, and 2005 reunion and Information.
