I haven't seen season 3 yet, so let me know if my thoughts are obsolete How does Bill do it all? On top of having 3 wives, he has so many big huge problems-- with Roman, his family, his business, etc., etc. I think any one of those would be bad enough. I know it's TV, but really, how does he manage? Also, Bill's family (or Roman, or whoever) abandoned him as a kid, as I'm told happens to boys in Mormon polygamist cults. How exactly did he manage to live, pull himself up by his bootstraps, and all that? He is very successful, apparently. Did he do all that with no family resources at all? In season 3, does anyone go into depth about Bill's history? Reply to Your PostDelete Post

Warning season 3 spoilers... He and his Uncle Joey lived out of a truck for a time. They touch on the flop houses the kids escape to or bide their time in, in season 3. Some girls believe it or not stay there to escape their mom's who have left, waiting until they are 18 to return again to Juniper Creek. How they exactly know they are 18 is a big mystery? He did unsavory stuff as explained in season 1 vaguely talking with Frank in the hospital after being poisoned. "What do you think I did, what do you think I had to do?" My guess is world's oldest profession. Also told Nikki how happy he was having "3 beautiful wives, 3 houses, 7 kids and about to have another store.. remembering living on streets with nothing of his own...." He lived on the streets. As seen in the wedding of Barb's mom, Barb's family took him in at some point. Season 3 we find that Barb's mom tried to get Lois out of the community and put her up in an apartment for a short time. Also from season 1/2? in that speech he was watching of himself he spoke of how the LDS church, to and audience that was LDS I suppose, took him in. The things Heather was trying to get Frankie (season 3) and Rhonda (season 2) involved in Bill at some point took the LDS church up on. Food pantry, clothing, housing.... In fact it sounded almost like Barb found him on the streets. Maybe Bill was a "project" turn love interest? I also think both went to the University of Utah at some point? UEB money when Barb got sick. He was in business already with Don for years at the start of the series. That's the confusing part. He's part of another group and for some reason season 1 suggests that they got money from Bill's old group, why not Don's? None of Don's wives appeared to have come from Juniper Creek? How would they even know each other? Why wouldn't Bill have been required to take on a business partner from Juniper Creek connections? Was Nikki enough security? Is that the only reason he married her, other than to breed? I think there are too many plot lines going. In the beginning all he wanted to do was open second and third stores and for Roman only to get a tithe off one of them. And with the third store I think he wanted to lease the first two so Roman wouldn't get a dime. Roman getting money would ruin the business if word got out. All this BYU charity/BIL, Greene, Grant, UEB, "the letter", the kidnapping, wife #4/dating, trials and attempted murders by people close to him... on top of Nikki... Just when you think having heard a revelation about her past and the news about Margaret, Bill's sister, you think he will start finally trying to be nice to Nikki or at least understand her better. But no, he either ignores her or purposefully creates a distance from her in a way that is not honorable. How does Bill do it? He does it all badly. You really see the strain in his face season 3. He's loosing his way. He's even questioning the lifestyle after hearing more about Margaret, his late sister. Is he like Roman? As Barb calls it they are free floating. He is lost. He takes the family on a journey to rediscover their roots with Joseph Smith's vision and jail where he was murdered. The family encounters some LDS and nonbelievers along the way. It's almost as if he is pushing the family and himself to specify their beliefs on a more personal deeper level. He is trying to figure out the balance of protecting his family at all costs and doing the right thing as seen in Roman's trial. Barb's issues with her former church as well. She needs to go back to the ritual and structure she doesn't feel in the life they are living. Nikki is questioning what her decisions are during the whole trial preparation, and questioning her living this life. She admits not wanting to marry the first time. Upset about seeing an old picture of her in the joy book. Margene is growing up. She doesn't have her mom anymore to fall back on, not that she really ever could. She's seeking to include even more people in her life through work opportunities and isn't the obedient little girl Bill married waiting to be told what to do.

Oftentimes a man with vision and leadership (such as Bill) can and will be succesful in many aspects. He probably worked really hard to get where he got today. (Perhaps he had a little help from his ousted uncle....remember the one who helped Lois get her laudry business?). So far he has held his marriages together with the exception of Anna (but that is in season 3).....with some tensions, but then again even monogamous marriages have tensions. In his marriage situation, I think he could do a bit better. Communication and mutual faith is key to any relationship. He needs to have a more open line of communication and then take into consideration the veiws and feelings of his wives before acting on anything. His leadership is also his weakness in this regard....Bill often acts, sometimes without regards to the feelings of his family. Aside from this, Bill seems to be a good and caring father, husband and charector. -- I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glorify in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul in repentance; and this is my joy. Alma 29:9
