Am I the only one who doesn't like the Nicki's daughter plot?

I just feel like Nicki's daughter is something the writers threw together for this season... It would have been nice to see her faults and downfalls explained given information we already had.

I think they set up the idea, just so viewers would wonder about it, as we are. But I don't think they'd actually go there. And I think Roman would think it totally perverted, and he doesn't (didn't) see himself that way. Alby might be another story, but I think his ties to Nicki are emotional rather than sexual.

True, but it's very, very rare that she'd inherit their brown eyes, as you yourself have pointed out. It's remotely possible, but not very.

I don't know about the soapiness factor. Incest of that kind does happen, and it happens more in paternalistic societies, and it happens even more when the father considers himself above the rest of humanity and beyond reproach.

I don't know. It just looks like they've set it up already, what with that giggling on the bed at Wayne's b-day party.

It came to a head, he wrote her a love letter and she told him NO.

Is something else supposed to happen?

And I think Barb is also pure, BTW. Nicki has a daughter by a previous marriage. That's pure?

She can't do both. Let her sort out the debts first.

Why? Do you want all three wives to just leave Bill? Can't Margene have some happiness?

But again. . .genetics are a funny thing. . .My daughter doesn't look like me or her father at all. She looks like my aunt, who looks NOTHING like her sister (my mother) or her brother. My aunt resembles my Grandfathers maternal side of the family, who were Mongol/Tartars.

I think the season was a mess. Whoever's writing this needs to better build suspense of a show and follow through with the storyline. I mean what happened to the oldest son's obsession with Margie? That went no where fast. I think they should make Sara's boyfriend knock her up again and have him leave her like in real life. I also think that Niki's daughter should be pure like Niki before the world screwed her up, unlike anyone else on the show. I think Margie should tell Barb exactly what's what, with her choosing to live in polygamy with Bill by CHOICE and stop blaming Niki, I think Niki should find another job (remember her credit card debt?) and have another baby (after all it's her turn), Margene should be going through the shock of having to adjust to a million kids and married life and there having no end to it....

I also think that incest with Roman would be a bit weird as well even by Big Love standards.

Maybe, but I don't think they'd go to incest with Roman. And the fact that she looks like Alby and Roman (I don't really see it, myself) would not be surprising - they're her grandfather and uncle.

Outright incest (as opposed to consanguity and inbreeding) is very 'soapy.' I just don't see it.

JJ's eyes are blue.

True.

They're blue.

If he had a dominant gene for brown, he'd have brown eyes, not blue.

I think they're trying to do something interesting with the brown eyes. Cara doesn't look like Nicki's other kids, nor does she look much like JJ, but she has a striking resemblance to Alby and Roman.

You've never been a casting director, have you?

Probably a couple of thousand actresses auditioned. To get the group down to a manageable size, the casting directors would have pulled the headshots of Nicki and JJ, (or whoever the father is supposed to really be,) and thrown out all the actresses who didn't match up.

Then the after the rounds of auditions narrowed the remaining group down to a handful of hopefuls, the casting director would repeat the process, winnowing it down to one or two.

My point is that unless there's some reason for brown eyes in the arc, (which the writers would already have worked out for next year,) this character would have blue eyes.

If they were matching her to JJ and Nicki, they'd have thrown out all the brown-eyed girls. IMO, they weren't. They were matching her to Nicki and someone brown-eyed, and so our girl stayed in the mix. JMO, but it's an informed-ish opinion.

I'm thinking that that is the rule. . .but there is always an exception, or a possible mutation. . .My GGP's were One with Colored eyes, one with brown/almost black eyes. My GF had grey, one sister bright blue, one sister black. My GM had blue. My mothers are bright blue, her sister brown black, and her brother green. My father had blue. My brother has blue, Mine are a deeper blue, my sisters is olive green. My uncle had Emerald green. My one cousin has Olive green, the other has dark brown. His children, with his hazel eyed wife all have bright blue eyes.

On the other side, my MIL's father was blue eyed as were all of his famly. His sister married a green eyed man, and all of their children had brown eyes. Their grandchildren however, had color eyes.

I do like the plot with Nicki having a daughter. I think having her secret out will really make an impact on her life in the future. The family will see the reason behind all the crazy things she was doing. It might make her a lot more stable if she gets to be with her daughter. It will be interesting to see how things go with JJ next season.

I don't think the writers put in any thought about blue eyes/brown eyes, so I don't think there's any subplot there.
I can't make any conclusion about her personality with as little as we've seen. I think she wants to be a doctor and that's why she cut up a toad.

I like the Nicki's daughter story line. I only wish it was further developed.

I think Cara Lynn could have brown eyes with two blue eyed parents so that doesn't bother me too much.

I like the name Cara. I had picked it out as a girl's name, but I never used it since I had boys.

However, I am open to the possibility that Roman is the girl's father and he married Nicki off and sent her away until the baby was born. I think it is possible that Roman also raped Alby. It would provide a deeper, and darker, reason for the pairs' hatred of their parents and explain the bond between them as victims of abuse.

Cara was quite anxious to leave the compound. Remember that scene when she asks Nicki about her car and whether if goes fast? Is her wish to leave her wish to avoid early marriage/the joy book?

This was the second time that Nicki's desire to become a nurse was mentioned. I wonder why Laura was able to go to school to become a nurse and Nicki was not allowed to go. Maybe because of her pregnancy. It would be good to see Nicki's wish somehow fulfilled and Cara's.

MT grizzly; it appears from the mini-sode on HBO where Nikki has just given birth to her first child; that like other polygamists; the father, in this case Bill was NOT present at the birth of his kids and I assume he didn't go to any appointments either; its one thing that could lead to detection of their polygamist lifestyle. Besides even if he did; at least in my experience the first pregnancy check-up appointment which is usually on your own (or you can choose to go to it on your own; not unusual); they tell you if you have had any previous children or even abortions or miscarriages and you don't want your current partner or husband to know; they can record it seperately so it isn't seen by your family. I wouldn't want to hide something like that but someone like Nikki wouldn't hesitate. This is assuming she didn't tell Bill she had a daughter who died or something like that.

It would all depend on Nicki?s husband. What color were his eyes? If they were blue then the more complex rules of gene interaction would explain it. However if her Husbands eyes were Brown, Nicki?s daughter got her brown eyes from him. There are two possible ways for that to happen. If the husband has two dominant genes for brown eyes that would be one possibility. That second possibility is that the husband has a dominant gene for brown and a recessive gene for blue and the dominant one got passed to their daughter.

If you want to be more certain there is always DNA testing which is a lot more reliable than eye color.

> I just don't think that cara Lynn is nicki's. Nicki
> was only 15 when she gave birth.

It is very possible Nicki is her mother since 15 year old polygamous brides are a part of compound polygamy.
