Joey

I just love that Joey ends up being the one to kill Roman. After all the complex machinations of others - it ends up being poor Joey - so angered with grief - who forms a quiet simple plan - patiently waits - and successfully suffocates him. The on-screen presentation of this epic moment was so humbly and effectively performed by this actor. The moment was brief but supremely crystalline.

Bill, by comparison, spends countless amounts of time doing knee-jerk stuff and typically ends up getting duped over and over again - at least in the final episode!

Nikita87 - You're right of course-no wonder the men love polygamy so much! I realize Joey's love was very different for the 2 women.
I noticed BIG TIME how cute and sexy Joey was, when he was with Kathy.
So I wanted to see that agaain with K's sister - also from an actor's point of view I'd love to see Jodeen? transform.
She's the only powerless woman on the compound we've gotten to know; she hides her feelings with that wooden face and voice. I always want Joey and his family to get off the compound, but story wise, that won't happen.
I admit I blocked out Jodeen sleeping with Frank because he is sooooooooooooooooooooodisgusting.

must stop rant and go to work

Nikita.
I know which episode that you are referring to. In
"Come, Ye Saints", Margene accidently leaves the urn containing her mother's ashes on the car before driving off and teh urn falls and breaks, leaving the ashes to blow away. The ceremony that the family does that night in the hot tub is a baptism not a "sealing".
And I understand what Joey said about feeling better if he had been sealed to Kathy. But a woman cannot be sealed to more than one man. Since Kathy was a widow, most likely she would have been sealed to her late husband. While it is possible to be "unsealed", it is not common. So even if Kathy's death had occurred after her marriage to Joey, she most likely would have still been sealed to her first husband. Roman would have had to agree to unseal her from her first husband for her to be sealed to Joey and Wanda.
I don't think Joey loved Kathy any more than he loves Wanda, just in a different way. They also were still in the first heady stages of love while he and Wanda had settled into a more quiet place.

Here is a link to the synopsis of "Come, Ye Saints" where they refer to the baptism for Wanda's mother.

There's a big difference between being "in love" and loving someone you've been married to for years. Joey was in love with Kathy; that initial glow had worn off with Wanda. Apples and oranges...

More than that, Kathy and Jodean were very different people who just happen to look alike. He loved Kathy for her sweetness, and Jodean doesn't seem sweet - she's very serious and just a little self-righteous.

redrock6,

Don't get me wrong I love Wanda as well she is the sweetest villan ever created and I mean that in the best posible way lol! I also was incorrect to say Joey loved Kathy more.....Joey loved each of them very much however I believe when he was with Kathy he had a certain sparkle a glow if you will....this glow isn't always there with Wanda.

I don't know if Kathy's sister is the best fit for Joey. I think it would be kinda creepy for Joey to marry a woman who not only is the sister of the woman he loved but also a woman his father has SLEPT with......also what if that were to happen and she were pregnant with FRANK'S child......too icky!

So am I I have been watching them since the first episode! I love them! I wish the seasons were not so far apart!:(

withay,

I cant tell you the specific episode bacause hbo has taken away big love from on demand however it was one of the few after anna left and they were on vacation visiting the holy lands......it was also right after margene's mother passed away. Margie was taking her everywhere including on vacation! She couldn't let go yet despite the less than perfect relationship they had. Margene's mother fell off of the top of the car and Barb acted as Margenes mother and was put into the family for eternity AFTER death.

Also the prophet was not performing the ceremony between Joey and Kathy....they had asked Bill so in your opinion does that mean she would have been with her ex for all eternity anyway and not with Joey and Wanda? If so why then at the funeral service did joey say something along the lines of Joey had said that he would have been more capable of dealing with his hurt and anger had Kathy been sealed to him

I honestly am not the person to go to for advice on religion.....it is a question.....I don't go to church very often. Basically I have taken the bits and pieces I like from religions and that is what I believe. I pray and I believe however I am not one to attend service.

Nikita - I couldn't agree with you more.
Joey did not snap; the murder was carefully planned, and I hope he gets away with it. I don't think Joeyloved either more; but Kathy was so good for him, and unique. I would never have thought I could love such a character, but she was truly, consistently sweet, and, yes, so good for Joey. I have a fondness for Wanda, crazy as can be and totally believable.
I'm hoping Alby will take charge of JC-perhaps there's some way to get Kathy's sister unsealed from that other horrible creep.
After all, Joey accomplished what no-one else could.
I think Joey made his decision that night in the barn, when he responded to Bill's "We need evdence": " I have all the evidence I need>
HBO JUST REMOVED THE 3rd season fromHBO ON DEMAND; I can't stand it,am truly hooked.

I think that Margene's mother was baptised into the LDS faith and I do not think they can "seal" someone after death. Also, I imagine that Kathy was already sealed to her first husband which would mean that she could not have been sealed without the prophet's intervention even if she had married Joey. Zoar? Could you answer this question?

Roman Deserved to die! He spent his life making the lives of everyone around him a living hell! I feel for Joey.....he lost any hope for Roman to be locked up because of the deal Bill worked out with the DA.....and poor Joey now has to see the face of the woman he loves however that woman is married to his father and he needs to realize she isn't Kathy.

Joey lost the one calming force in his life....Kathy calmed the crazy a.k.a. WANDA............Joey I truly believe loved Kathy far more than Wanda. I honestly hope Joey does not go to jail or suffer any punishment. I also do not think he snapped I think it was planned.

I do have a question though......Joey had said that he would have been more capable of dealing with his hurt and anger had Kathy been sealed to him why can't they do for Kathy as they did for Margene's mom? During Bill's vacation Barb stepped in and they sealed Margene's mother into the family after her death......can the same be done with Kathy?

I have always felt bad for Joey.He is such a nice man and has to deal with Wanda being Wanda all the time. He's been steamrolled so many times that he has adopted a type of "learned helplessness".Joey sick and enraged with grief kills? Roman.Hopefully he gets away with it.After all, how many people has Roman killed or destroyed thier lives?I know two wrongs don't make a right and yes it is interesting Joey becomes a cold calculated killer.Bill yes, trys to undermine or get Roman to trip up somehow, but it usually doesn't work or Roman slithers away.Joey is a classic example of the calm, easy -going guy who finally snaps.

That was perfect-you never know what the next action will be, and then it's perfect psychologically, and surprising.
About Joey, I hope you're wrong-it could be a release for him of years of resentment and anger, and feeling helpless. His grandfather was a prophet,;Roman killed him, then was partly responsible for his sister's death.
He might be our new hero - Bill is such a loser lately, and Joey could let go of the past and be a leader.
If it were my script , it would be one of the compound stories, at least.
One ending NOT surprising: the minute I guessed there was a child in Nikkie's past, I knew it would help get her back into the family; largely because Barb would sympathize. Drat! Would be lovely to see Nikki have to pay for some of her behavior.
I'll stop rambling, sorry - I have never before been obsessed with a TV show!
If there were some way for Joey and Kathy's sister to get together , it would be lovely-that actress is fabulous.

As for Joey, I'm afraid he was bound to fall at some point. He's in for some dark days. I suppose there will be lots of deception and it will take Bill forever to figure out the truth (sigh, why is all television drama these days about liars and lying?). But it will make for some good drama.

Good point about liars!

Yeah it was great writing. This is practically the only show I watch where it's very hard to guess what's going to happen even if it works perfectly (psychologically) when it does.

to who-ever started this topic - I agree with you 100% Roman needed to die; he's evil; and Joey was the perfect one to do it.
Joey did not snap-he planned it; someone else said, after all the running around, authorities, etc., Joey brings justice.
I want him to get away with it totally; he's become much stronger a character, more interesting, not to mention, as a man certainly more enticing than Bill.
Bill has blown almost every thing he's attempted this season. His ego is so big, now he's created his own church.
Cartoonish!? someone said-this is a TV show, and the best written on TV, and why is ridding the world of a dictator MORE serious than buying and selling 14, 15 year old girls into marriage, total obedience, physical violence? to be disposed of at any point by the boys in charge? Plus, the show is a good study of character development, and Joey's entrance in that last scene a shocking and wonderful surprise, good acting, writing, directing. Some of you are getting a little prudish.

I think that Joey has grown some stones over everything that has happened with Roman. He may even eventually become a Prophet more ruthless than Roman.
