LISM,
The thing is that the same people who post offensive things about Obama seem (IMO) to squeal the loudest if something that is vaguely critical of Palin is posted. So, as I said on the other thread, I'm going to stick to Big Love topics and stay away from politics.

Really, it is. . .Valentines as we know them came out of her era, anniversaires, birthday celebrations, and sentimental gift givings all came from her. . .

Yes, that was my point, actually - that Queen Victoria was the exception. It's really touching, really.

Ah. . .but remember, Queen Victoria was madly in love with Prince Albert and he with her. . .And they were not as innocent as people would like to believe!!! At her insistance, he wore certain pants, (Like bullfighters use) because she liked how his butt looked in them, and he had a piercing, at her insistance (now known as a "prince albert" so no one could see his "package". She wore mourning clothes for the rest of her life, and went into seclusion for at least 1 year after his death. Most of her children and grandchildren married for love also, as she did not believe in arranged marriages.

Yes, the wife produced the heir and the spare, and her obligation was over. Except Queen Victoria, of course!

I'm just being silly. Of course nobody's ever written about polygamy being the key to long life for women. Who cares how long women live? ;)

True, but we also have to remember that in aristocratic families, marriage was rarely a love match, but a family alliance. 75% of the time, the bride and groom did not even KNOW each other, let alone LIKE each other. Procreation (sex) was a "duty" women had to bear. That's why there was in Latin countries "La Casa Chica" (the "little" house) and in France and it's colonies was "La pleasance" or "La maison une fille" where the mistress and her children would live. . .Even in Japan, in the Geisha Districts, and in China. This was the norm up until the first part of the 1900's. . .

Not since the invention of the pill. But back before birth control, it was very common for aristocratic families to practice a kind of unofficial polygamy, in which the wife would retire to her own bedroom to stop having kids, and the husband would partake of various maidservants, his mistress in the city, and professional hookers here and there, to spare his wife bearing more children and wearing out her body.

Unnecessary now, for the man to heroically shoulder the burden of so much sin simply to keep his wife from dying in childbirth. LOL! (Unnecessary then, too--the Romans had condoms.)

CQ,

One thing we're agreed on. Although I will watch Olympic gymnastics, figure skating, and diving, if they're on.

but sports kind of bore me. I have tried to get interested in them, but it's no use. Luckily I am surrounded by men who also are bored senseless by sports, so that works out well for all of us.

I know a lot of women who are sports fanatics, and it's my feeling that couples ought to share common interests. For instance, my husband stage managed and ran lights AND sound for the last show I directed. He ran lights for the last show I acted in. It was nice because we rode to and from rehearsals together.

My Dad is into having KU season tickets, and he's also kind of into the Chiefs. He used to watch all kinds of sports (and I suspect betting was involved.) He'd get terribly emotional and Mom would make fun of him.

I don't have to like everything my guy does. I've had my share of sports fans, and guys who liked to go to air shows and look at battle ships, or recreate the Civil War or whatever. It's not a deal-breaker, but shared interests are sooo much better, IMO.

I've looked, and most of the things I've found have to do with female birds. So, there might be some obscure paper written somewhere, but I have yet to find it!
