Sarah and Scott engaged?

I figured it was coming sooner or later so when Sarah asked him to marry her, I wasn't surprised. I'm happy about it, but honestly.. I don't think it will last. Come Season 4, something is ought to happen.
What do ya'll think?

I might get a little flaming for saying this, but if I had a daughter Sarah's age, I'd rather her date a doofus like Chad rather than a pansy like Scott. Chad would be irritating, but he doesn't seem the type that would cheat on a girlfriend, and excuse his actions by saying he did it because she wanted to remain a virgin until marriage. Chad brought Margene flowers after meeting her once. When has Scott ever did something special for Sarah, or told her he loved her? Even jackass Bill will go out of his way once in awhile to show his wives how much he loves them, and he tells them quite often too.

Joy to Menolady and CaffineQueen on both your happy unions!

The Hendricksons could really use some serious remedial tutoring on this - are either of you up to it?

menolady;

Good for you! I married at 18 too but was not as lucky as you that time. I DID luck out the next time though. 24 years next month!

It does take hard work, compromise and luck as well as the determintion to make any relationship work!

Yes, a lot of work and lots of compromise. And luck too :) We've a had a few rough spots, mostly money problems, and we've always pulled through. We enjoy each other's company, and now that we're retired we can do more together. He's a cancer survivor and had stents in his heart and back surgery. I think he has nine lives. I've always stayed in the hospital with him and he has with me.

She was 17 and he was 28, when they got together. So now she's 18 and he's 29. He's 11 years older than she is.

OK, so

Yes, and we don't hold those little boys up as paragons of responsibility or desirable people to get married to.

> Which is worse?

When a grown man acts like a child, it's a lot worse than when the child acts like a child, don't you think?

Because he was dating a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, and he's pushing 30.

Did you date any High School students in your late twenties? It's just not something people do.

She convinced HIM? She lied to him about her age. She's 18 now, but she wasn't when they got together.

But HE convinced HER to have sex, by insisting on having it elsewhere as long as she wanted to save it for marriage.

Bill didn't even have parents at Sarah's age. He has no idea how a father is supposed to act at this stage.

Or maybe you just worked a little harder at it than some people do. Most people who marry young have no idea that there is work involved.

I think exception or not you're lucky!

We don't really know Scott didn't use a condom. Sometimes they break. Sometimes they slip off.

How do we know Scott did not use a condom? Condoms have been known to fail.

Also, with every few posts, Scott seems to be getting older and older. I think he's 10 years older than Sarah (who is not exactly jailbait at 18). OK, so they had sex and she got pregnant. This happens every day with 14, 15 and 16 year olds whose partners are the same age. Which is worse? I'm sure I must be.
My son and daughter had failed first marriages, mostly from immaturity and bad choices.

Actually, I don't think that a 29 year old man who sleeps with an 18 year old girl and doesn't bother with a condom is all that mature...

It could be worse - it could be Chad!

Just because Sarah and Scott get engaged or married, does not mean that she is not going to go to college. I think her best bet of figuring out what she really wants is to get married and go live somewhere far away from her family. She needs a normal life--and room to figure out the direction she wants to go and not just be surrounded by what she doesn't want. The age difference is actually working to her advantage, since he is more mature than she is. Here's hoping that he really is a good guy.
