This evening on CNN, a special is coming on regarding inside the homes of the W. Jeff's ranch. It's scheduled for 10pm Eastern; 7pm Pacific time. With so many shows, tv programs coming on, this thread might serve as a way to announce any shows that you hear of, with channel, and time, that pertain to the topic. -- duets

Last evening, (?channel), there was a program which addressed cults. They spoke of the RLDS (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints) in Kirtland, Ohio murders of 5 members who were contemplating leaving the church in 1990. As a possibility, it is thought that the members practiced "blood atonement" and a former minister, Jeffrey Lungren was a suspect in the ritualistic murders. In 2001, the RLDS changed their name to that of 'Community of Christ'. "While the RLDS & LDS both believe that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and the BOM is scripture; they are indeed separate entities and differ greatly in doctrine." www.watchman.com -- duets

Marion, Thanks for the link. I missed it on tv, so again, thanks. I found this to be an interesting piece, especially with the LeBaron's daughter on. There isn't alot about this group in the media. I suppose they're either afraid to speak out or else, have been "blood atoned"! -- duets

I meant to mention earlier that two women were on "Good Morning America" this morning. One is Ervil LeBaron's daughter - said she thought of her father as God. The other grew up in the "Zion Society" - a rather odd group where the "Prophet" had his wives sewing and modelling lingerie for local strippers. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=5321567&page=1 "A 15-year-old girl would be instructed to teach the 9-year old girl how to sexually satisfy a man or woman," she said. These are the groups that give polygamy a bad name. And on another subject, only slightly related, a Pakistani man living in Georgia strangled his daughter to death because she wanted out of an arranged marriage to a man she hadn't seen in months. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=5322587&page=1 -- Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. - Goethe

Yes, some of the younger girls have on jeans/sweaters etc. Very different from the attire in Utah. And also when they arrested Jeff's, remember he had on a t-shirt & shorts. His wife (that was with him) had on jeans etc. No prairie dresses viewed in that picture. -- duets

I think that BL shows us the more typical of dress there in Utah FLDS. In Canada, Blackmore seems to allow for different attire to be worn. I suppose if they were dressed more urban; then it might not entice us to watch it week after week, ya know. I think that Utah and Jeff's is the more typical of what the show is about; whereas, Blackmore and Canada may be more atypical where the fundamental dress etc is concerned. > > > I also read that Blackmore showed up in > Colorado > > City, when they jailed Jeff's. So, maybe Blackmore came to see if any prospects were looking to come his way to Bountiful. Funny, I also read where Jeff's visited Disney World (in disguise), while he was in Fla. (on the run). I find this odd, since none of his many children were not with him. But he decided to show up there anyway. I found all of this in a book that I'm finishing now- When Men Become God's. -- duets -- Edited by duets at 06/08/2008 1:13 AM PDT

Yes, Blackmore does seem a little more laid back about some of the rules compared to Jeffs. I read an article on the two schools there, and apparently the one that Blackmore has his group attend is more like any other school in Canada, just with Mormon religious lessons. My roommate also found a picture of Blackmore and some of his daughters, and some of them were wearing pants and pretty stylish jackets. We joked that they were better dressed than us! It was pretty different than what we're normally shown of the compounds, that's for sure. It would've been interesting to hear why Blackmore did this, how he was welcomed (or not) there, and his thoughts on how the FLDS there were handling the situation. Of course, they could've asked this and it just wasn't "newsworthy" to them.

AlienSummer, Yes, there's no love loss between Winston Blackmore & Warren Jeff's. If memory serves me right, I think that Jeff's booted Blackmore off the compound while @ Colorado City. I saw this a while back, and it seems that Jeff's ruled with an iron fist and Blackmore appears to have a more gentler tone about him, in the way he is a Prophet. I also read that Blackmore showed up in Colorado City, when they jailed Jeff's. I think he was just checking out the area. And probably just wanted to ensure that he was behind bars. -- duets

I just watched it and was kind of disappointed. It focused more on the YFZ raid and Jeffs arrest than the split in Bountiful or why it will be difficult to prosecute people for polygamy in Canada. It was also pretty superficial as opposed to a real in depth look, and I think they made a bad choice in sending that woman to interview the people.

I don't know if this is going to be all old news for some of you guys, but I found a video of a Canadian news program called The Fifth Estate on Bountiful B.C. I haven't watched it yet, though I do plan on doing it soon, but thought I would post about it now before I forget. You can read the description of it on the page, and on the right side it gives you the option to watch the video. It sounds like it's about the power struggle over Bountiful between Jeffs and Blackmore. Anyway, here you go! The Fifth Estate
