Very likely coOrrect IM. I havea certain young lady in our family that will probably always be known to the family as "Bity"for the same reason. Her older sisters are known as "Princess" and "Doodle". Nicknames are fun and are often a complete mystery to people outside of the family or group of friends that bestowed it.

I will say that we don't call the middle one "Doodle" for nothing. She can doodle around (dawdle) with the best of 'em.

I suspect that most of the kids were named after relatives. Teeny sounds like a nickname that was given when she was a teeny, tiny baby. Nicknames don't always have to do with your given name; I have a friend called "Chuck" who is not a "Charles". When he was little he had a big belly laugh so his mom called him "Chuckles" which got shortened to Chuck.

That was a good pick-up on Tancy.

She is probably named after Nancy....just changed a letter.

If that is so, kinda revealing about how much Barb cares/cared for her mother.

My middle name is also my grandmother's name, but in my case, it's her nickname. Just as well - her real name was Florence. :)

Barb's mother is named "Nancy" so I bet that is why Tancy's name is spelled that way.
My middle name is spelled unusually for a similar reason. My mother was naming me after my grandmother (sort of) . She gave me a different name but spelled it like my grandmother's name except for one letter.

I mentioned on another post. I played that part over twice more, using on demand. We went to an Obama party, so we had to watch it on demand. I thought the woman was saying another girl's name. I thought that she was saying that Teenie was in a club with that other girl. My husband was watching with me and he didn't catch on either. Then we both got it at the same moment. That dittohead thing again. That is when you both say the same thing at the same time.

However it's spelled, I love that name. My kids better be glad I had not heard it before they were born. Then again, their names are not totally the "norm" either...

A lot of the names are unusual, especially on the compound. Adaleen, Jodean...

Are they old, traditional names, or made-up names?

I Googled Tancy as a name and only came up with a Scottish (male) boxer! But "Tancy" is an alternative spelling for the Tansy plant.

HBO spells it Tancy. People make up names all the time. It could be they wanted to name her after a relative named Nancy but changed to the T so the family wouldn't get mixed up who they were referring to.

Even if it is spelled "wrong", it certainly would not be the first time someone has changed the spelling of a name...
