Hi My name is Brenda and I just finished watching season 1 and now watching season2. My fiancee and I like the theme song. Would anyone happen to know the name and who does it?? Thank you

In this day and age there are a LOT of things that aren't salt in the ocean....but probably it was sand.

Yes, she is much better just 24 hours later. The thrush is clearing up. The nasty tasting and smelling breath is gone. She is eating and has agreed to take the pain med at night only so she can sleep, which is improving her disposition a lot!

I read about that happening on the web site. It's actually a type of yeast infection so antibiotics make you susceptable.

Funny! JAM - it probably wasn't the salt water, it was probably fine particles of sand or something in the water. Tears are almost exactly the same solution as sea water (unless you were swimming in the Dead Sea.) Chlorinated pool water in your eyes - now that burns!

I grew up swimming in the ocean, and while I never liked opening my eyes underwater, it didn't burn.

If you buy an eyewash to soothe irritated eyes or wash out an irritant , it's mostly simply salt water.

I was going to suggest that, my step dad gets thrush quite a bit from his anti-rejection meds for his kidney transplant several years ago. They always prescribe a mouth rinse that seems to clear it up really quick. Is it helping her?

My b/f had all kinds of complications bf'ding and she actaully got a thrush infection on her nipple at one point youch! Crazy stuff...

Thanks, Marion. Not to brag but she's already a top notch student even though she was missing a lot of school. So I am really expecting great things now! She starts high school this fall and things really start getting serious about affecting where she goes to college etc. I am just glad this is behind us now. She slept a lot today and is obviously feeling better. She even asked me to cook some vegetables! And she ate them. She said the Chloroseptic spray is better than the pain meds...I wish I had thought of it sooner.

Good news, withay! I'm glad she's feeling better.

When I had my tonsils out in the 7th grade, I went from mediocre to 4th in the class in 6 months. It's amazing the difference it made when I wasn't missing school all the time.

It sounds as if she's well on the mend. Good for you for being firm with the meds - a good night's sleep will make a world of difference.

Thanks for the suggestions. We ended up calling the Dr and he said for someone her age, she is right on schedule. I think the biggest problem is that she is over being sick and tired of eating mushy food, etc (but it hurts to eat harder stuff). I told her she had to take 1/2 a dose of the pain meds so she could sleep (because I also think lack of good sleep is another part of her problem). She took it, got some sleep and is much better today. The Dr called in a mouth rinse for the thrush and I got her some Chloraseptic for the throat.
She is much improved today. And, yes, having the tonsils out will be worth it. She gets really sick every year.

I wasn't saying you were suggesting it, Tsari - that was just a side remark about using salt water for sore throats.

However, salt water doesn't really burn wounds or sore skin - it's soothing (unless the solution's too strong). It's one of the reasons to think the Aquatic Ape theory of human origin is true.

It's funny - people think salt water in your eyes will burn, for example. Then, when you say "Tears are salt water," they stop dead and don't know what to say!

No. . .not a gargle!!! I'm not that Evil!!!! That would burn like Hell!!!. . .just a rinse out. . .it helps with the thrush by cutting through the bacteria.

I got thrush really bad one year. . .I could not even brush my teeth because of the sores on my gums, it created. I even had 3 places on my tongue that were painful. The salt water rinse helped by cleansing the mouth area,

Gargling with warm salt water is great for any sore throat, too. But probably not for a child who has had her tonsils out - gargling would be difficult, and she wouldn't want to swallow salt water.

I remember all too well having mine out. I hope she feels better quickly. And enjoys the benefits of losing them soon...

Being sick when it is hot and humid has got to be the worst. . .and having the pain when you swollow . . .

IU feel the same way pain killers. . .try not to take them for the same reason. . .

For the thrush, there is an old remedy called "Tinture of Violets" you can find it over the counter in a lot of pharmacies. You can use it together with another remedy - first wash the mouth out with 4 oz of warm water mixed with a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide. . .then rinse the mouth again, with a glass of warm salted water, pat the interior of the mouth with a cloth or a napkin, then dab on the tincture of violet on any sores. It looks really gross, but it works. . .

lisoccermom, well, you're not the only one who was a young adult in 1969, but I missed that song. (I was in Australia, and for some reason that one didn't get to us.)

But it annoys me a little too.

I'm probably the only one here who was actually a young adult in 1969, and ugh, I"m tired of the theme song frankly. Sorry, I just had to add this because I'm always saying it to hubby whenever we watch. It also doesn't seem to fit as Sandy Utah is nowhere near the surf last I looked and it's one of the Beach Boys sappiest songs IMHO. lol

Hot and humid. Just miserable weather. I thank God for living in the age of air conditioning.
She was doing fine, no complaints, was starting to eat solid (but soft) food etc. Then yesterday she developed thrush (a yeast infection) in her mouth from the antibiotics. Everything is tasting nasty because of the healing and its side effects. And she is having "referred pain" in her ears (it's the same nerve). Pretty much she is tired of being sick and housebound. We have some family members who have had drug abuse problems so she is refusing to take the strong pain meds; she will only take tylenol which really is not strong enough. I insisted she take a half dose of the stronger stuff tonight so she will get some sleep. The Dr said that day 7 is usually when the pain peaks for older kids (she is 15) so we should be on a downhill from here. And he called in something for the thrush (yogurt was not working). But it is hard to help someone with pain when they will not take pain meds! Though I do understand her fears and respect them. Thanks for asking.
