This show is fantastic! I really hope HBO decides to give it a second season. Bored to Death is the reason I subscribed HBO! All my friends and I watch it -- and think it is so unique, well written, and acted. This is another GREAT HBO series I hope they don't cancel.
Listen to the viewers and keep shows like Rome (a truly exceptional series) and CANCEL shows like True Blood (sooooo boring and contrived)

I didn't like the show at first but it has really grown on me. Every time I watch I laugh myself silly, especially during last week's episode.

Yes, I heart Jason but Ten Danson is hilarious in this show.
I think the comedy is understated which I like. However, I like Curb, too, which isn't understated so go figure.

I can't stand zany corny improv comedy no matter who does it..even if it were Jason Schwartzman.
I would be throughly disappointed if he ever did comedy like that.

gator...Yes, I adore Jason. He's the reason I heard about this show.
You do know that it's okay to have celebrity crushes right? Some girls love the A-list celebs like Brad Pitt or Robert Pattinson. Not me.
Jason is a talented actor and musician. He would never do zany improv, and that's why I love him. lol

I own a trench and I use Moleskine journals regularly.
All of these items and styles are common in other places besides Brooklyn.
I thought that you meant that this was geared towards late teens early twenties. The cast is late twenties/early thirties to over fifty.
I can't stand Andy Samberg. I can't stand SNL anymore. The audience they're going for is not the same as what Bored to Death is going for.
I'm a little biased because of Jason, but the style of this show is exactly what I expect from him, and that's why I like it so much.

IAdoreJS ? I agree with two of your statements. This might be the best show on HBO right now because HBO doesn?t have anything good on right now. HBO has really gone down the tubes and really needs an overhaul of talent finders, producers, writers, etc. Just look at all the negativity Entourage is getting as well as other Sunday night shows. And I too don?t care for ZANY IMPROV comedy.
But you really need to lay off the Jason Schwartzman juice. Obviously you are a little obsessed with him, just look at your useraname. You are without a doubt going to be biased. I mean, if JS was in a zany, improve comedy about paint drying, you would love it and comment about how cool, funny, and adorable JS is.
The characters (most) and viewing audience is meant to be around the late 20?s / early 30?s crowd (you can check on everyone?s age and personal info on IMDb). The show is geared towards girls and Brooklyn hipsters. Jason wearing stylish trench coats is something I don?t believe he wears everyday out in LA with his rich, privileged family. And even if JS wears and acts the same way he does in real life as in this show, that doesn?t make it any better. So what, it?s still cheesy and at some point you gotta tell him to ? grow up already.
This show is like a mixture of these horrible things - The Big Bang Theory (Schwartzman = Howard), a Andy Samberg sketch on SNL, the Hardy Boys. HBO does not need to bring this show back and instead focus on how they?ll squeeze either Ted Danson, Gary Shandling, Gilbert Gottfried, Wanda Sykes, Parker Posey, etc. into one of their next shows.

wtf gator? Andy Samberg is nowhere near the league of Jason Schwartzman. That's insulting!
I don't think their target audience is the younger crowd. How old do you think the cast members are?
Jason Schwartzman looks/dresses exactly the same way off the show as he does on. It's probably his own freaking wardrobe. He's not pretending to be cool. The guy IS cool AND adorable. Maybe Ted is a little over the top..but I love everybody else including Parker Posey!
I "get" the humor and I think the show is very funny.
you know what kind of humor I dislike? ZANY IMPROV. I think it blows..so you know what? I don't watch it.
Bored to Death is the best show on HBO right now.

This show is absolutely horrible. The ?comedy? is totally wretched and super cheesy. Way, way too cutsey and lame. People around the country have this theory about what the cool / scenester/ indie kids are like in Brooklyn. Well this show doesn?t help the stereotype. These characters need to get real jobs, grow up and stop being in love indie darlings like Parker Posey (what next ? a cameo by Karen O?), and attempt to actually be smart and funny. And enough with the swoop bangs haircuts and the pseudo-intellectual beard (or glasses). And for god?s sake, enough with Ted Danson!? HBO always does this with certain ?at the moment? ironic but cool actors. It?s really boring and played-out.
And it?s not that ?I just don?t get it?. I do get it, and it?s horrible. Everything ? the storylines, the cute (but not in a supermodel way) indie chicks and other pretentious, ?hip? characters, the ?Brooklyn and all of its cool spots? settings, etc. I don?t want to see Andy Samberg type of comedy/writing for a HBO comedy tv show.
HBO please do not bring this show back. I know you think you are being hip but please stop this nonsense. In fact why did HBO give Mr. Ames a chance with this premise for a show? He must have been sleeping with one of the bigwigs? It sounds somewhat (barley) funny / interesting when you first hear the premise but then you quickly realize (and mature) that this will never work and that in fact that this is silly and dumb.
Jonathan Ames should be Daniel Powter (song ? ?Had a Bad Day?) for Halloween.

In response to This show is great, someone needs medication but please do not administer any to the writer(s) or actors in this HBO original series. DNR. DNR. Do not resuscitate. Let it die..quickly. The show's title, Bored to Death, states my exact feelings about this "HBO original series". Better luck next time!

I am bored to death by this show...another flop for HBO who keeps aiming at a young audience with stupid half hour comedies.
Where are new shows of the quality of sex and the City, Soprano's, Deadwood, Rome, Six Feet Under, the Wire, etc
Spend some money, execs, and get some good shows. I am canceling my subscription til you do.
