With only 2 months left of 2008 who deserves the fighter of the year award?

I know we have some fights that still haven't taken place but if you had to pick right now, I want to know who your top 3 would be for possible fighter of the year candidates? If Pacquiao beats De la Hoya, he'd be #1 on my list.

Until Margo rematches Clottey and fights Williams, I am not getting on his just-like-oscar-scam bandwagon. Cotto's chin is weak, and he is so easily busted up and cuts easily. Margo is a tough guy and that is the reason he beat Cotto, not by any boxing prowess that he possesses. PacMan is the fighter of the year.

Definatley not James Toney!!
his fight against Fres Oquendo was horrible.
Oquendo looks like the worst boxer I think I ever seen but deserved the win in that fight.
Paquiao might get F.O.T.Y because of his disregard for weight.
DLHOYA to me is like Quadruple A.
He is better than F.Vargas(Triple A) but not effective on the higher level!

I like Vic Darchinian for fighter of the year but I wouldn't be mad if the Pac man got it, he's had a good year also. No matter who we thought won the fight between Pac and JMM-the 3 old judges said he won-so hell-he won.

Now, I think Wladimir had a pretty good year also-we don't give this guy enough of anything. Sure his fight vs Ibragimov was a dud but he defeated a decent undefeated champ and that got to be worth something. I honestly think Vic deserves to be fighter of the year, but I think Pac man will get it.

Some might hate this-but Calzaghe had a hell of year also-so between those guys it doesn't matter. Marg had a good year as well as Dawson and a few others.

Agreed JohnKay, if Margarito had agreed to fight and defeated Joshua Clottey before year-end; he'd have a much stronger argument....beating Cotto was great but KOing Cintron (for a second time) is not enough to warrant fighter of the year. Gotta go with the video game kat....Pac-Man.

I have to go with Pac Man, but the thing is, he only beat 1 pound for pound fighter (Marquez) during the past 12 mos. His moving up in weight and smashing Diaz and De La Hoya gets special credit though. Calzaghe had the biggest year in terms of name-recognition of his opponents, but wasn't as impressive as Manny was in his wins (dropped twice, by two past-prime elite lb-4-lb cats...although Hops still is top 10). On the low, Wladimir Klitschko has had a decent year as well, assuming he defeats Rahman. Chad Dawson deserves credit too, beating two top 5 light heavies.

Pacman had a good year no doubt although the level of compition he faced was poorly, except Marquez. With that said Margarito deserves Fighter of the Year! Also, Vic Darchynian had a good year by winning two titles back to back. You cant give Pacman credit because he truely lost to Marquez even though its not on paper, no robbery decisions should be counted for fighter of the year! Margarito hands down.

Pacquiao is the fighter of the year no doubt. He won 3 fights in 3 weight classes. However i do feel that he lost a close fight to marquez but never the less he got the win. Calzaghe had a decent year but its overrated. the hopkins fight could have gone either way. and the roy jones fight was bs. Any real fan knew jones had nothing left to offer.

I was really feeling you until you brought Wlad Klitschko in the mix.His first fight of the year with Ibragimov could probably win him the worst fight of the year Award, and, who was Tony Thompson ,and now he's going to close the year out with Rahman
The same Rahman who quit on his stool in his last fight July of this year to Toney on ESPN,or better put begged the ref to stop the fight b'cause of a scrape that barely bled. With all due respect Ja "this forum is reserved only for the greats" we must keep the level of insanity to a minimum.Just kidding man
but, then again you mentioning Wlad's name here was kinda crazy.

The legions who criticized the Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao fight as a mismatch were right.

Indeed it was a mismatch, but one favoring the smaller fighter, the underdog.

Manny prevailed convincingly and in style, showing true grit and grace with pre-match odds against him.

He has shown the world that he will never be scared of a bigger opponent.

HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg said, "one of the greatest performances by a prize fighter I've seen in 31 years in this business."

ooohhhh those crazy and insane fans just like their idol proud Juan Manuel Marquez will surely disagree....well, why not make a name for himself too? ? He can try to challenge Hopkins, Margarito or Cotto - if they will agree, before getting a crack again with MP, otherwise,?. he has to line in queue, or maybe wait for 4 yrs as what he did to MP?

Why those anti-MP fans and some boxers are now hungry and so eager to fight or trying to knockdown and beat / destroy MP? ... well?for now....in their wildest dreams?. But since Manny rhymes with Money...... that?s one of the reason why they are so eager to fight MP?.. MP is not invisible and can be beaten or KD.. but .. perhaps... not yet at this time, in his prime.....

The humble Manny will never back down to fight... ?.. and if the price is right (agreed by promoters)... then, they can have the chance....
