After hearing Ortiz talk, I'm not sure we'll be seeing him fight anymore, I could be wrong but it's unusual to hear a 22 year old say I have some thinking to do and I don't think I deserve to get hit like this. What do you guys think?

reminds me of lebron james. many are trying to compare him to the great #23. They've done that a lot, From Penny hardaway to Kobe to Harold miner!! -- If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.

I don't think Ortiz deserves anymore air time from any network. You can't teach someone heart! There are better fighters in the gyms in Brooklyn & Philadelphia training now that deserve to be on HBO before Ortiz ever does again!

Not only did he quit in his first fight with Marquez, he quit in his first fight with Oscar Larios. And he came back and beat both their asses the second, and in Marquez's case, third time around. He'll quit, but he's also the #5 P4P fighter in the game. And like I said in a previous post, Cotto and Vitali have quit in fights. Cotto is #9 P4P and in my opinion, Vitali is the best heavyweight in the world. Ortiz can come back from this. -- Edited by hitking60 at 07/04/2009 8:15 AM PDT

I came down on Ortiz like alot of people directly after the fight but after having a week I realized it's not as bad as it seems. Ortiz can repeat what Israel Vasquez did and come out better in the end. If you remember Vasquez got some heat for quitting in the first match with Marquez. If Ortiz can come back and Beat Maidana in a rematch in an impressive, revenge filled, Rageful Stoppage and then go on to take him out in a 3rd fight Ortiz can find himself at the top of the sport. -- "I'm not feeling lucky lately, Not just ordinary luck. * Victor needs to stay away from boxing for about a year and see if he has what it takes to be in boxing. He does not have the attitude to be great. Ortiz and GBP got overconfident and did a misstep in taking on Maidana. -- Fraud "Zero Ticket Sales" Mayweather. Rib Injury? Nice Try! lol GBP: Growth-Hormone Boys Promotions Joshua "Head Nigerian Scammer" Clottey Roy "Original Fraud" Jones Jr. Bernard "Lie To Mama and HGH User" Hopkins Cotto: "Elephant Cajones" Shame "The Cheater & HGH" Mosely Duran: Hands of Stones Margarito: Hands of Plaster Marquez: Back To Begging Pacquiao M. First of all let me just say this was a great fight. There was two way action since the first round and it didn't let up until the 6th and final round. FOTY candidate for sure. Now lets be honest, did anyone really see this fight turning out the way it did ?? I sure didn't. No one had ever really heard of this Maidana kid, he had a good record, and with 24 KO out of 25 wins, I thought it was just some blown up record the guy got by fighting bums in his home country, nobody really knew much about him. After this fight I became a fan for sure. As for Victor, he did show some heart there at the beginning, but those thoughts went away after the way he quit in the 6th. Victor didn't loose this fight because he was "too young" or because "they moved him too fast, or any other reason, Victor lost this fight because he folded when the going got tough. As soon as saw blood and got punched in the face he froze up. Maidana just wanted this more.

GBP has no stars and in their rush to make a star are close to destroying a prospect. what we have founsd out about ortiz is, that he may have plansd to retire immeditely after making a few bucks (wants to grow old and talk without stuttering) . He may not be able to hndle a tought back and forth fight cause he will quit because the tide swings and it doesn't go well for him for a minute or 2. but, he is 22 yrs old and still mentally child as far as I am concerned. -- I came I saw and I conquered -- Edited by cargilb1 at 06/30/2009 6:12 AM PDT

Well I missed the interview to leave and see JuanMa....And I showed up late, besides and missed the first two great rounds Too many cards for two good fights. Victor was certainly being found by those rights and would have wound up flat on his back. Once Victor stopped boxing and tried to brawl, Maidana found his range with that right. We'll see what he brings down the road. In the meantime props to Maidana for picking it up three times and scrapping his way outa the trashcan....That's how you do that. -- http://therealnews.com/t/ http://english.aljazeera.net/

it was a minor setback. it was a reality check for him. a though lesson learned. i think this should make him hungrier to do whatever it takes to get to the top. reminds me of lebron james. many are trying to compare him to the great #23. L.J. hasn't even won one title. hes fun to watch. i know he's capable of winning a title in a couple of years

I don't know man, I just really felt bad for the kid, he's been through a lot and he sounded like he didn't want it anymore. You could be right, it's just unusual to hear a 22 year old who was being groomed to be the next superstar say the stuff he said and not be able to handle the pressure. I personally think they moved him way too fast, he's talented no doubt but Maidana was very impressive. I like that Ortiz at least made no excuses, said it exactly the way it went but I don't know how much longer he'll be around and I'm wondering what else he's qualified for too. GBP could've match him a few more fights with those older cats as Toe put it. Lesson learned, haste makes waste.

Steve he won't retire b/c as soon as he doesn't fight for a few months he'll realize that he's not getting a pay check. The guy is 22 years old, so sooner or later he'll forget just how much the punches hurt and go in there and beat up a bum or two. Get a bit of confidence then quit again once he faces someone that punches back. Like I said, he'll fight again, b/c I doubt he has any other talent that pays him as well, and I doubt he's smart enough to save his money. -- Don't make bets with females

Body, he shot himself in the foot with the way the fight went, the giving up and saying that he won't go out on his back either. He wants to speak well when he's older, to me all the things he said are legitimate and honest. Most people don't want to hear a fighter say the things he did but I really think he was mulling over getting out of it. If he's not going to be elite what's in it for him if it's only down hill from here?

He won't retire but he'll never be a top name in the sport. Plain and simple he doesn't have the will to keep going when things get though and in the boxing game, things will get much thougher than Maidana. -- Don't make bets with females
