After watching Rocky Balboa for the third time, and thinking about him being a former champion who was retired for a while and facing top competition, I was wondering which fighters could come out of retirement and be a top contender or even a champion today. I think Vitali Klitschko has a good chance if he's healthy and there are a few more. What fighters do you think could do it?

lennox didn't "beat" klitchko the first time, why would you think he could do it now? You are aware that he retired BECAUSE he wanted no more of klitchko in a rematch that everyone wanted at the time, right? unreal. -- Floyd is like the patriots, the moat. M ost O verrated of A ll T ime

That must be a trick question, boxers don't ever really retire, but I would probably have to say Marco A. Barrera or Lennox Lewis.

I will agree with you wholeheartedly that Sharmba Mitchell should never have fought Paul Williams, but pride comes before the fall as they say, and thankfully, Mitchell hasn't fought since.

"I don't know what fight you were watching, but Mitchell won that fight over Ndou quite handily. It was a unanimous decision rendered by a panel of international judges. It seems you're trying to bait me into some senseless debate over something so obvious, for whatever reason I have no idea". Not really. Sharmba himself wasn't even sure he won until the decision was announced. That was one tough fight for him. I believe that fight began the downward spiral for Mitchell and Tszyu sealed the deal. He should never have fought Williams.

But Mitchell had run off eight straight wins since his first loss to Tszyu, and many people were picking Mitchell to beat Tszyu in their rematch. Mitchell has since fallen precipitously, but Tszyu had much to do with that.

"When they quit on their stool.....they're too old". Discretion is the better part of valor. You make a good point. Tszyu didn't get old the way Morales got old is my point. Morales doesn't know when to quit. At least Tszyu realized his end was near. I still think he could fight against a lesser opponent and be successful. I don't think Morales has anything left.

But everybody looks sensational beating Sharmba Mitchell anymore since Sharmba ain't no spring chicken himself. I listed Bob Foster / Victor Galindez in the other thread but honestly.....Bob was too old in '74. -- ?Fighters today are babied. Back in my day, we took risks and fought ?em all.?
