Some people think his skills have diminished and he lost a step. I personally think it was more the awkwardness of Mayorga that bothered Mosley and that he had to make adjustments at the end. The finale was great.

Not sure who you intended this for, but I'll reply nonetheless. De La Hoya has indeed typically fought the best (even bigger men, i.e. Hopkins); but he also took quite awhile before he faced Quartey, Whitaker and Tito...but he did, so props to him. I do know that he was in NO rush to EVER fight Winky Wright. Not because he was scared per se...pure business...high risk, little reward. I have been on record for killing Mayweather for his knack to look for the most profitable, least daunting fights (since he left 130 lbs.). I really don't put Mosley in the same boat as him. By the way, I'm human (lol). Mosley came up through the ranks taking on all comers. He's not there now though. He's a money fighter.

I would have to agree with Ja on the ducking issue. I think Shane will take any fight if the money and prestige is at the right level. Vernon was for many people an unknown till he beat mosely, but that is no excuse for dropping off the planet at 27 for 5+ years. Thats the reason he hasnt had the career Mosely had. No one really got a chance to duck him either because his first opponet after mosely knocked him out then decisioned him in the rematch(Mayorga). Then came the injuries and sub-par performances. I think of Vernon as a Tarver-type guy. Trained thier whole life for one fighter, tailored thier style for one fighter, and probably only watched one fighter. They finally achieve thier lifetime goal of beating the one fighter, but have a short lived reign.

You all make good points here, but I doubt for a minute that Shane is ducking Margarito or Forrest; never has, never will. I think in his final days as a fighter, he doesn't really care who he fights...as long as they have any kind of name. I mean, this is a guy who fought Forrest and the Winkster when folks wanted no part of either guy. -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2008/09/22/shane-mosley-will-pick-apart-ricardo-mayorga/

How easy do you think it is 4 a guy like Forrest that's been fighting as long as he has @ the championship level 2 get up 4 a contender? Vernon would beat Shane up and I like Shane, but like I've said so many time's already, Shane isn't really a boxer-he's a guy with good reflexes that loves 2 mix it up. Forrest is a good boxer and he's already beat Shane 3 time's, Shane doesn't really want anymore. If you look @ Shane's history, he's the 1 that's known 4 headbuts-Shane was bout 2 leap in with 1 of those hook shots and he got the worst of it. He was a bad sport thaat night-cause all he did was blame it on that-Vernon hurt Shane 2 the body and head all night. If you saw the rematch you would've seen how Shane reacted when he thought Vernon was about 2 throw a right. Shane is a HOF fighter and 1 of my favorites, but Shane was able 2 get the big fights and Vernon wasn't. Oscar the guy that every1 wants 2 say never avoided any 1 never wanted any parts of Vernon and Shane doesn't want it anymore either.

No doubt about it. Forrest did score 2 knockdowns in his first fight with shane, but the knockdowns came right after a terrble headbutt that left shane leaking. I made the chin analogy because shane has never been knocked out, and has been hit by huge clean shots from hard punchers. Tall fighters do give shane problems so im not sure who would win in a trilogy fight. Forrest just lost to a contender then came back to do what he was supposed to do, and shane just looked so so against a guy who uses his head as a defense. Both of them are past thier prime, but i think Vernon is farther gone. Still, hes tall and shane has problems with tall technical boxers so im not sure how to call that one

Forrest knocked him down twice in the 2nd round. Forrest beat Shane up pretty bad in that 1st fight-I'm surprised Shane heard the final bell. Forrest even hurt him to the body bad-in round 10 you could hear Mosely yell from a gut shot.

Shane Mosely was fighting a bloated 154 pound brawler and still got the knockout. You can hit him with a bag of bricks to the face and he wont go down. Not entirely true. Didn't Forrest knock him down?

I think Forrest would still beat Shane even after all these years, yet I still think that's the fight for both fighters to push for. Was it just me and the room full of people I watched the fight with or did it seem like Shane really didn't want either Margarito or Berto. Who care's what Margarito and Cotto are trying to do-Shane is 37 and he has to call these guys out regardless of what their trying to do. If they don't have a contract to fight yet call them out. My point is-why not Forrest-he's old too and showing the same signs Shane is showing-the this is a young man's sport signs. Oh yeah-I thought Mayorga did pretty well-the fight was close imo-I thought he was ready to go around 7-but he got his 2nd wind and did alright. Maybe it's me-but does Larry Merchant-Jim Lamply ever pull for the underdog-ever? I watched Mayorga tag Shane with quite a few unanswered shots nothing-Shane sticks out a lame as jab and Lamply calls it.

It was a so so outing for shane mosely, nothing too spectacular about the fight besides the ending. Mayorga went through his stages as regular: Doing good, Doing ok, Getting Dirty, Big Bravado, Lay down. It just seemed to me that shane didnt have the pop to get rid of that guy earlier. Mayorga had went through all his bravado in the 7th and was ready to lay down but Shane didnt have enough to put him to sleep so he caught a second wind. Think i learned more about Mayorga than mosely because ive never seen mayorga catch a second wind and continue to fight after the bravado stage. Shane Mosely was fighting a bloated 154 pound brawler and still got the knockout. You can hit him with a bag of bricks to the face and he wont go down. Maybe hes gotten a little slower because he couldnt hit a wide open mayorga with a punch he didnt see till 1 sec left in the fight. All and all, you need legs and speed to beat margarito and mosely still has both. Either Oscar or Shane has the tools to circle the ring landing 30 or so punches a round on Margarito fpr 12 rounds so both of them should go for the pay day and prestige.

I tend to agree here, except with the pt. that Oscar has more left in the tank. Oscar did not look that good in his last fight against Stevie Forbes. Oscar hasn't looked good in years.
