Who can be the face of boxing going forward?

In the past there were fighters that were recognizable by everyone whether a boxing fan or not, like Ali and Tyson. Mayweather retired, but was becoming more recognizable outside of the ring, Oscar is on his way out, and the Heavyweight Division is full of boxers that are pretty much unknown to most. Someone needs to represent boxing and be the face of the sport, who do you think this boxer is or will be?

These were the two that came to mind for me when I read the question, so I'll just "ditto" your comments here.

I remember when Pacquiao won his title on the undercard of a huge PPV event. I liked him immediately even before the fight started...

i never hated on roy jones...he has an entertaining style i could care less what mayweather said its what he did in the ring that i hated ...you already kno hitking! and i think that is what most fans that dont care too much for the guy think....he was a very boring to watch fighter..when he was in the ring with someone he knew could hurt him he would resort to holding and grabing even running...that is not boxing to me...roy jones did neither he took chances inside and outside the ring ...he beat a prime hopkins and a prime toney and a few other names...i dont hate mayweather but his best win was against an old delahoya ...which ithought dela won that fight....its not hating its being a realist that is my opinion like most boxing fans ...it takes heart it takes a fighter to take chances in the ring and outside the ring...by taking on all comers "MARGARITO" and now that the division is hot well he retired...that is why i dont care too much for him...i like boxing matches like roy jones they are boxing matches...fighters like hopkins and mayweather are the same boring fighters scared to get hit so resort to holding and trying to frustrate there oppts with dirty tactics....and it doesnt help that the damn refs dont tell them a damn thing...look you dont have to stand toe to toe ..but let your hands lose after all this is boxing isnt it...its not wrestling....and its not ufc....I DONT WANT TO GET INTO AN ARGUMENT ABOUT THIS CAUSE IM ALREADY TIRED OF ARGUING WITH HARHEADED FLOYD FOLLOWERS.....IAM A LOVER OF THE SPORT THEREFORE I CAN MAKE GOOD JUDGMENT ON WHAT I THINK ABOUT A FIGHT OR A FIGHTER...I LIKE FIGHTERS AND I HAVE MY FAVORITES BUT I DONT LET THAT GET IN MY WAY OF WHAT I THINK ABOUT THEM OR THE SITUATION THERE IN....BE A LOVER OF THE SPORT NOT OF THE FIGHTER.....mayweather was real good but will never be great in my eyes not like the chavezs leonards alis they took on four times better oppts than mayweather has ever faced...roy jones too has taken on all comers in his prime...when he started getting older he was more worried about the money than fighting the best and that is why people were crying on him for awhile...but in my eyes he is at another level up than mayweather any body can be undefeated...but its who you fight that makes you great not how many wins you racked up....

This does make more sence, every fighter has flaws but some more than others . Then trying to cover it up. I just think some of these fighters can't handle the spot light or pressure. And thats why they fail. Seperate the men from the boys! Thats what it's about.

HBO is not the HOLDER BOXING OFFICE
they made their name on fighters.

I, like you am tired of the Floyd Matweather dissucion. And even though were on opposite ends of the Mayweather debate I can respect you because you don't get on here and bitch about how bad he was everyday. But, as you know I disagree. Yeah, his style could get a little boring, but a lot of great fighter's style is not pleasing on the eyes. And I disagree with you that he ran from opponents that could hurt him and on his best win. In my opinion, he faced the biggest puncher of his career against the late Diego Corrales and had his best win and performance. And to me Money isn't getting a fair shake on his opponents. He fought the very best between 130 and 140 (technically fought Hatton at welterweight), beat the reigning welterweight champ and had a good (no great) win over a much larger de la Hoya. I liked the guy, he's the best fighter I've ever seen, and I'm sad he's gone. I mean nowadays how many top level elite fighters score KOs is a least half of their biggest fights. Because that's exactly what Money did.

I agree. I personally always felt Jones' and Money's "personalities" were just acts. My dad is from Monroe Co., AL and that's only like an hour or so north of Pensecola. Some of my cousins would go down to Pensecola and play basketball with Jones. He's a real cool guy and humble cat. I felt he was just playing a role to try and fill seats. He knew he oppenents had no chance and had to add drama to the fights the best way he could. Same with Money. I feel like he wasted so many years being a jackass outside the ring and couldn't be trusted to be aggresively marketed. When he finally matured he had the create a persona that could sell, whether fans loved or hated him. I think the real Mayweather is somewhere in between the guy who crys like a baby after a big win and the guy who acts like an arrogant asshole throws money and all that bullshit. Either way, Jones and Money are the best two fighters of their respective eras so screw what a couple "fans" think.

I agree with you But, like !Hitking said Cotto is in the mix 2.
HitKing ,I belive IMO the only reason RJJ & FM are hated on so muchis not for their performances in the ring but,for their personalities in & out of the ring. The flashy style and endless trash talk probably offends some or maybe reminds them of someone who took their lunch money at school.I have no problem with how they carry their self personally. But,you got some dudes like one on here who has a bad reaction to his Adult ADD pills and he can't seem 2 focus on anything else but FMOAT.But, IMO it's got to be the personality that intimidates these people because nobody can deny the Raw Talent these Boxers Have.
In saying that,After Pac Mans performance last night he can't be denied He' seems to be on a mission that resembles Mayweathers carrer dominating and holding titles in many different weight classes.Thats real P4P s$$t.
And,doing it nicely.I just don't know how long it'll continue.
But,for the long haul I tend to lean toward Pav because of his humbleness I think he'll handle up in the ring And won't knock anybodys feelings off their sleeves outside the Ring.

By way of records and titles Manny Pacquiao is undisputed except for some insecured analyst. Ring Magz and Yahoo Sports are very reliable sources of sports record.

I agree with this 100%. Peeps should give credit where credit is due instead of run their mouth about how crappy fighters such as these two are. If they are doing such a terrible job at it then the people running thier mouths should get in the ring and show us how to do it.

Chavez Jr. has a chance to be the face for boxing, but we will see in a few years.
