Taking Boxers from 1950-1960, from 1960-1970, 1970-1980, 1980-1990, 1990-2000. 2000-2008. Which active boxers from the time periods listed above were the most popular or loved by the fans during these periods of time. I'm sure some time periods will overlap but I'm curious to see, what everyone comes up with.

It's funny, shows how much sports have changed in recent years. He's probably the least dominant of any of the other aforementioned fighters but his TV-rating quotient was probably higher than all the guys mentioned. It's weird, he was not in that many particularly exciting fights (excluding his win over Vargas) and he's lost most of his biggest fights, yet he's arguably the second most popular fighter (behind Ali) of all-time. Vanity pays I guess. -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2008/05/08/will-ricky-hatton-and-junior-witter-finally-meet/

i mostly agree with the previous posts, but for the 50's-60's i think Carmen Basilio's name should be mentioned, and for the 80's-90's i think tyson's name is in there, even though he was young, people were excited to see an aggressive, powerful heavyweight

I never met a '60s fan who didn't like Dick Tiger. And Floyd Patterson seemed more popular after he lost his title than when he had it. Ali (as Cassius Clay) was both liked and disliked as I recall. -- She was for the war before she was against the war. (There's no naive in politics!) -- Edited by JimEarl at 05/10/2008 7:30 PM PDT
