There's another chapter to be written in this saga as Mosley and Vargas will meet again on Saturday, July 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mosley vs. Vargas II will be presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events and broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View.

I agree physically Hopkins was in his prime but numerically $$$$ millions in the bank he may not have been as hungry as he once was. If Hopkins fought Taylor before he fought Oscar the results may have been different.

Mike was still one of the best players in the league when he exited. I knew he was getting old when he came out for his last All-Star appearance with his warm-up top tucked into his warm-up pants....lol. Too funny !!!

MJ was not the best player in the NBA at 38, he was better than about 75% of the players, but he wasn't the best in the league. I was amazed at how MJ performed, but to say he was the best is a-bit far fetched.
your right he was with the Wizards then...he was 35 when he won his last scoring title and Finals MVP and of course the world championship with the bulls

Most athletes that get better with age have also managed to avoid serious, career threatening injuries throughout their careers. Bernard Hopkins has never really been in a "war", even his two (2) fights with Taylor can't be considered wars, so it's easier for him to perform at 40 because his body has been so well preserved. Let's also not forget that B-Hop lives a cleaner life (does not drink nor smoke....party til' 5 am) than most fighters.

Something about age ,maturity and sports smarts,look at Jordan when he was 38 and still by far the best player in the NBA, just like Hop who was able to defeat the younger and supposed to be better Tarver.

some people get better when they get older bernard was far better when he was 40 than 30. bernard at 40 could have beaten roy jones. and dont ever say he was past his prime when taylor beat him becouse after two losses and getting older he went up in weight and beat the light heavy champ who was top ten p4p. some atheletes do get better when thier older. bernard is one of them.

i'm not assuming anything. athletes and people in general slow down with age both physically and mentally. that's not an opinion it's a medical certainty. let's see how sharp your mental acuity is once you are past your prime.... unless you're there already.

bernard was smarter and sharper defensively at 40 than he was at thirty only because he had been fighting only a few years at 30 after being released from prison. he was not quicker or stronger than his opponents.
bernard at thirty would have schooled jermaine taylor

here you go again running your mouth. by the time chavez was 33 he had close to 100 professional fights. not 30 - 40. every athlete on the planet gets old sometime, football players peak out at what 30? golfers might be the exception but then they're not really athletes.
