lol SK I've always said his ring entrance music rules! That's about the only thing I like about Wlad's fights. Also the entrance music for Cotto this past weekend, The White Strippes, was awesome. -- "How sturdy is Margarito's chin? Chuck Norris would break his hand if he hit Margarito on the whiskers.

The one thing I can say for Wlad is that he had the best Ring Entrance Music in recent memory for this fight ... if loving RHCP is wrong, I don't want to be right -- Cruiserweights - what the heavyweight division would be if the heavyweight division didn't really really really suck.

hayes is an exciting fighter and he will make dr steel hammer look exceptional. Wlad will destory hayes. hayes drops his left hand after he throws his jab and his left hook is way to wide. perfect avenues for wlad to land his right hand. also, when hayes throws his left hook he pulls his right arm back, which is perfect for a counter left hook. hayes keeps his hands low and wide, which is his style in being a pressure fighter and making his hands faster. maybe left handers give wlad problems, because he did not look that good. wlad looks like he is becoming more mechanical as he is getting older. thompson covered up nicely and he dominated the punching stats. i believe he is a legit heavyweight. wlad should fight more non-title fights to get that sharpness back. fighting once or twice a year rust a fighter. i would like to see a mandatory rule that says a boxer must fight four times a year and three must be title fights. wlad did settle down in the latter half of the fight and started throwing heavier punches. when thompson was knocked down, he looked like he was comfortably asleep. he had his right glow under his head (used as a pillow) and his eyes were closed. wlad chin is fine. every time he gets knocked down he jumps right up. his eyes are clear and his legs are not all rubbery. his knockdowns are usually due to exhaustion. the peters fight: wlad was off balance and those punches were pushing him down. the sanders fight: he was pummeled, but he got right back up each time. His chin is fine. dr steel hammer has a prescription of pain for the rest of the heavyweight division! Who wants to step up?

Tua was a limited (left hook primarily) puncher, ultimately. His best moment was annihilating David Tua and his classic fight with Ike Ibeabuchi (the uncrowned champ of the late 90s/early 00s). He had a good career, but we should realize that all short, power-punching fighters typically have a career ceiling as short as their stature. Even greater ones like Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson started taking beatdowns as they slowed down...they have to use uncanny speed or power (which is usually in abundance at younger ages) to beat up naturally bigger men...but when they ALL fought naturally bigger men with a modicum of skill and heart, they were usually seriously troubled. -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2008/07/16/cotto-will-defeat-margarito-easier-than-expected/

tommie106 I couldn't disagree more. I feel Steward hasn't helped Wlad. (nor do I think he is a great trainer - easy to train a champion when they already are one when they come to you) Wlad needs to get the "fight" back into his game. Watch early tapes. He had it once. He wanted it at one time. Now it is just something he does. Boxing that is. What the hell is up with his arm flailing when someone starts punching at him. It's ridiculous and gets him hit way more than he should. Don't say he fights tall. Pavlik fights tall. Don't see him flapping his arms trying to grab. I think he needs to look at how the PacMan handle Diaz. His movement was brilliant. Wlad used to be that way. Then he got sick (Hep C anyone?) and hasn't been the same since. Haye just shooting his mouth to make people think he deserves the money he would make fighting such a fight. He will loose against those that deserve to be in the top 5 (to many HW in top 10 that are a joke) I think he should fight Arreolla for his next fight. He can out box him but lets see if he can take the heat. I think Peter might get KO'd. Vit Klit. is allot meaner than his borther. Lewis got shit lucky. Would have been his 3rd loss by KO. He has something to prove. But who knows. Ring rust might get him. Anyone else in the HW division? Man that division sucks. What is Valuev shucked and jived? He should mimic Frasier/Tyson and just beat people to death. But alas he wont... ):

If Tua can get back to his bob and weave style that made him scary, i'd love that fight. His problem is that he has said that he feels betrayed by the sport due to the lack of his handlers screwing him over. Since then, his heart is gone!

What happened to David Tua?He gave Ibeabuchi a helluva fight and a match with big Klitz would generate alot of interest.

Lets face it, boxing isn't exactly booming right now. Bad champions are only going to further cripple the sport. Not to mention the effect the economy will undoubtably have on PPV/Ticket sales. -- Edited by billyfar at 07/15/2008 5:37 PM PDT

The question at the time was if there was there any heavyweights out there to fight Wlad other than Hayes. My response was none but the man that would take Wlad on in a good fight would be Ike . But, yes he would be bad a bad heavyweight champ, but then every one loved Ali even after draft dodging, Norton for abuse, Tyson for his numerous incidents. Plus, do you think people would really care as long as its news for the sport.

@ Scott Jarvis: Good article. Accurate. I support Haye for a title shot for the same reasons. I even give him a better chance against Klitz , than Peter. Klitz will box , Peter will brawl.

I find it ridiculous that this sub-human monster Ibeabuchi is given serious discussion.Do you really want to see a rapist as heavyweight champ?Don't you think that would be rather bad for the sport? -- Edited by CaptainMarvell at 07/15/2008 8:14 AM PDT

Lawyers working pro bono for Ibeabuchi have not had success since 2001, and I have no reason to believe that will change any time before his scheduled release. There was more than one instance of sexual assault, not to mention nearly killing a 15 year old boy negligently in a auto collision. Ike will most likely be deported from the U.S. once he is released, and not likely to be allowed to return for quite some time, if ever. ....and the search for the Great Black Hope continues! Not true, some lawyers are currently working on his release come 2009 late. There is a loop in his sentencing that could let him out early!
