Do you think Holyfield should retire?

I don't know if Holyfield can accept what happend in his fight with Valuev considering it was pretty close, do you think this was his last fight? If not do you feel he should retire? I personally think he's taken far too many shots in the past, I'd like to know what the board thinks.

Holyfield had not been the "real deal" since the first Lewis fight. He was than and is now punch drunk. His health is NOT intact.

I recently watched his first destruction of Tyson, Bowe3, Foreman and his absolute destruction in their 2nd fight of Moorer. THAT was the "real deal".

Has anyone see him worth a shit since before the first fight with Lewis? He can't get off. He was done long ago.

The only person worth while convincing to retire is one self. Holyfield needs to convince himself, that he no longer is the real deal. He has to come to terms with reality. No matter how much the outcry is out there, for him to retire, it won't make a difference. Hopkins is near Holyfield's age. He's a young 43yr. old, soon to be 44. I tend to agree that B-Hop is a freak of nature but at the same time, his longevity in the ring, is attributed to his defensive skills. Holyfield is an old 46yr. old. He's a scar battle warrior, whose time has come. Archie Moore retired at the age of 49. Some say, that he was more like 53, due to some mixup with his birth record. Whatever reason, that Holyfield may have for fighting this long is his own.

I think it's easy to see that he's suffered negative effects already with his speech, and seeing Freddy Roach and Muhammad Ali both with Parkinsons should be something that is thought about. I read a post earlier about Hopkins and possibly another fighter in Asia fighting at an advanced age. I think each situation is unique. Hopkins has an unbelievable defense and rarely takes punishment, I think it's amazing that he can fight at the high level he's been fighting at all these years and look good doing it, on the other hand Holyfield has taken far too many shots and is in a different category. Age I don't think should be the sole criteria in determining whether one should retire or not. We've seen some fighters perform remarkably well at an advanced age. I think the Valuev fight will haunt Holyfield due to many believing he won the fight and probably force him to continue fighting. Tszyu posted something about them reviewing the result, I hope for Holyfield's health that they'd turn the decision around if they find it to be flawed and he can retire as a champion. I don't want to see this guy who is full of heart lose the rest of what he's got in his head.

The Warrior Spirit never dies. Boxing is Holyfield's only known way to make money, and he'll either succeed and meet his financial commitments or die in the ring trying. Noble and sad simultaneously I suppose.

Its a hard question to ask. On one side you look at the fact that this guy is in his late 40s and hasnt won a meaningful fight in years! on the other hand you have to look at the fact that he has gotten much much better then before when he had that 3 fight losing streak!. he was able to string together a couple wins. put up a good effort against imbraginov and i feel he got robbed by valuev. so due to his recent performance i cant say he should retire yet. plus he needs the money i guess

Holyfield should retire but human nature wont allow him. He's too proud and with the boxing org NOT setting restrictions, there's nothing to prevent him from retiring. This is no different from BHop still fighting even with his win against Pavlik. Isnt there another older boxer still fighting either in Asia or Europe right now (cant remember his name)?

WBA to review Valuev-Holyfield

By Flattop

FightNews has learned that the WBA Championship Committee has ordered a panel of judges to review the contest between WBA heavyweight champion Nicolay Valuev and Evander Holyfield, for the WBA Heavyweight title, held December 20th in Switzerland. The source stated that the WBA is taking this action ?Due to the respect for the opinion of the fans and the media.? Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) retained his title with a majority decision over legendary ex-champion Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs). Scores were 114-114, 115-114, and 116-112. After the decision was announced, Holyfield received applause from Swiss crowd, while Valuev was notably booed. The WBA Championship Committee will issue a decision in the following weeks.

The Real Deal Holyfield. I truly never liked Holyfield but I've always respected him. He was once a great and will always be that to me. Even the fighters I've disliked I've given credit to when it was due. Holyfield has been past his prime the last what? 6 or 7 years? I've found myself rooting for him to win because I know what Holyfield use to be. I belive he needs to have a rematch with Valuev and maybe fight some safe fights. I only say that because I don't belive he will retire with his financial situation the way it is and fighting is the only way he sees to make money. I belive his speech will be slurred no matter if he stops now or later. He's in a division that sucks monkey peaches so as long as he stays away from the likes of the Klitschkos he should be o.k. for the most part. There's a couple of others I wouldn't put him in the ring with but there's a lot of fighters he could fight on undercards to make him some money. If he was my fighter, my brother, my father or my friend, I would strongly urge, would have been strongly urging, him to retire. I hope the best for Holyfield and I'll continue to root for him in every fight he has. My hats off to you THE REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately,Holyfields Finical situation is his primary issue concerning his retirement right now.
I read somewhere his utility bills total more than I'm paying to buy/own a house.
It's sad most prizefighters piss of more than most of us will earn in two lifetimes.
I would like to see him grab a big check and finally leave.
So I could hold on to the memories of the real REAL DEAL Holyfield and not this present version.
Holyfield was always one of my favorite fighters.
A Rematch Valuev is a must for this deserving old Warrior.I didn't get to see the fight but I heard he was robbed.
I would like to see him beat this freak and if he chooses to still fight stay on a seniors tour
there's enough washed up and sloppy HW's he could at least get a few more checks.
The sad thing about this sport is most fighters just won't accept their time has gone and continue until they get hurt or badly shown up/embarrassed and mostly tarnish their legacy.
Holyfields time has passed it's sad but, what's even worse is that he @46 can still come in and controversially beat a current champ this just confirms How much the Heavies suck.......
I would just hope his promoters have more intelligence than greed and don't send him to a slaughter.

Not even a tough call here. No reason to go on for Evander. Retire the true warrior that you are, Real Deal.

I'm sure his reasons are money and pride, but it's time to go.

He'll be mentioned for his heart forever...against Bowe, Tyson, Lewis...this guy fought tough.

Time to go, but never forgotten.

The only reason that Evander Holyfield should not retire is if he gets another shot at Valuev, somewhere in the United States. Otherwise, Holyfield should get out now, with his health intact.
