Ortiz is marketable, talented, has the right look, and seems to have a compelling life story. Do you feel that Golden Boy is right in believing that he's ready to become a super star or are they moving too quickly with the 22 year old fighter? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

We are sad to report that former world champion Vernon Forrest was tragically and senselessly murdered at about 11PM on Saturday night in Atlanta during an attempted carjacking. Reportedly Forrest had stopped at a gas station to put air in the tire of his late model Jaguar when two thugs attempted to take his vehicle. Forrest had a firearm and a chased away his assailants but according to Atlanta police, in an ensuing firefight Forrest was shot eight times with semi-automatic weapons.

Victor Ortiz doesn't have a fighting heart. He doesn't belong in professional boxing...

i'm gonna give the young kid ortiz the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance to redeem himself before i lay judgement. it's easy to rip this young kid for quitting the way he did BUT i wanna see how he conducts himself in his next fight and another one after that. Maybe he gets in trouble again and than lets see what he does. if he still quits before diggin down deep, than i'm gonna have to say that he should've taken his pretty face and persue a modeling career unstead of prize fighting.

I don't see him as a Camacho, Jr.-type. Let's hope he's a Terry Norris-type, great offense, leaky defense and chin, but still capable of some great things during his career. Yes, I'm an Ortiz fan. -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2009/06/28/little-men-big-nicknames-and-an-action-fight-in-store/

Ortiz is where Vitali Klitschko was after the Chris Byrd fight ... Vitali's performance against Lennox Lewis wiped that away ... there is time, but Ortiz will have to go through hell at least once to do so -- Cruiserweights - what the heavyweight division would be if the heavyweight division didn't really really really suck.

* Sorry, Ortiz has a nice story, but he is not the next big thing in boxing, far from it! He quit, simple as that! GBP and Ortiz are now in damage control mode. But that is what happens when you keep feeding your fighter tomato cans and then putting him up against a legitimate KO puncher. Growth-Hormone Boys Promotions have better luck with their old fighters on ROIDS and HORMONES. They keep losing to Pacquiao and their Numero uno promotion is going to lose money. GBP is dumb for putting a fight between a runner and counter puncher. Who is the Einstein who came up with that blunder..lol. * * -- Fraud "Zero Ticket Sales" Mayweather. Rib Injury? Nice Try! lol GBP: Growth-Hormone Boys Promotions Joshua "Head Nigerian Scammer" Clottey Roy "Original Fraud" Jones Jr. Bernard "Lie To Mama and HGH User" Hopkins Cotto: "Elephant Cajones" Shame "The Cheater & HGH" Mosely Duran: Hands of Stones Margarito: Hands of Plaster Marquez: Back To Begging Pacquiao M. Kellerman: Marry me, Juan!

I think that ppl. are whisking away at Ortiz because he let them down. Ortiz was groomed to be the next big thing. GBP was shoveling Ortiz down our throats, on his way to stardom. Those of us, who know better, weren't shocked. We were perplexed because nobody expected that kind of outcome and behavoir. Jarule, unlike other sports, boxing is an unforgiven sport, not only does it test a fighter's courage, skills, determination, confidence but also his will. Once a fighter's will is broken down, that's when we get to know his true identity. Ortiz stated, that he won't lay down for anyone. Not a statement of a true warrior. There were too many unanswered questions coming into this fight, besides I'm for one, didn't know much about Maidana, except for his bout with Kotelnik. He proved to be one tough SOB. -- ShowDaBoxing -- Edited by ShowDaBoxing at 07/03/2009 4:26 PM PDT -- Edited by ShowDaBoxing at 07/03/2009 4:29 PM PDT

Ortiz might not have the best of chins anyway because his face gave him away as visibly affected even before the worst of it after round two.....I missed the first two rounds. The best ones of course. -- RIP Alexis Arguello

He eventually did the smart thing and tied up...and fought on the outside more. Ortiz had crap footwork. Maidana had him lined up for the right hand because of it. If Ortiz were to have stayed outside, boxing, with his lead foot inside Maidana's like it was, he probably would have ended up getting KOd anyway. I was surprised at how easy it was for Maidana to step left and throw his right hand down the pike.

I always likened quitting like that to hitting the re-set button while playing a video game...rather than take the bad loss like a grown dude, you just go, f this...RE-SET!
