Undefeated over twelve years, won major titles in six weight classes, yep that's an overrated fighter if I've ever seen one.

Skill is only one aspect of a boxing champion. While Mayweather is the most naturally gifted boxer today his legacy crumbles by taking a pass on the glorious task of cleaning out the WW division. That would be, IMO, the difference between good -which he is- and great -which he could've been. Agree, there's no other way to prove a fighter's worth and legacy. In order to be the best, one has to beat the best. It keeps everybody honest.

They would like 4 Pavlik and Cotto to have that cross-over appeal, but they're just fighters-plain and simple. They don't talk much and they're boring when they're not fighting-I mean don't get me wrong-De La Hoya is as boring as boring get's outside the ring-but THEY think he's this so called drop dead gorgeous looking guy or something. Mayweather is interesting without old dad and he knows how to sell himself. I just don't think Pavlik is going to be top notch 4 2 long-he takes a lot of shots and he's just a decent fighter with alot of stamina and will. Cotto is a damn good fighter and if he get's past Margarito the sky is the limit-but cross over appeal is what you do in and out of the ring.

I agree with you cats. I hope I am not alone in hoping Mayweather-De La Hoya miraculously gets cancelled. Honestly though, with Cotto-Margarito signed, what better than for the winners to fight each other before year-end/early in 2009? That would be cool. Fellas, after Mayweather and De La Hoya retire, what American fighters will help maintain boxing's fleeting "cross-over" appeal (it's low to begin with BUT there is NO ONE in the ranks who appears poised for this). Maybe Kelly Pavlik? Who else? -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2008/05/08/will-ricky-hatton-and-junior-witter-finally-meet/

Quintana was Cotto's 1st fight @ WW-other than that I'm with you. Why do Floyd need to fight Cotto or Margarito to be considered great-he's already fought some of the best. The thing is-these guys were suppose to be tough opposition prior to the fight-then Floyd handle's them with ease and all of a sudden he hasn't fought anybody. Don't get me wrong-Cotto & Margarito are good fighters but you could combine Cotto, Margarito, Cintron, Quintana and Williams records for notable fighters and Floyd still out shine their records combine-don't believe me-check the fighters record-then get back @ me. Bottom line-Floyd is a great fighter-not the greatest-but he doesn't need any of those guys-but I hope he atleast fight 2 of em out the bunch.

When Mayweather entered the Division following the Judah loss. Baldomir was number 1, He was 2, and Judah was 4. At that time Shane Mosley was a Junior middleweight, Cotto beat Quintana at 140 not 147. As a matter of fact Mayweather Has beaten the last 5 WBC champs from 130-147. Cotto only has vacated titles. Cotto was not ranked number 1 when he left 140, a division he failed to clean out. -- Extreme HATING may cause constipation.

First and Foremost. Mayweather Makes the Division. If Money Man Drops to 140 or 135, then those Divisions becomes the deepest. Mayweather has already established a legacy at the 130 and 135 divisions. He practically skipped the 140, just stayed their to beat up on Gatti, then he had a few fights at 147, before moving to 154. He doesn't have to cleanup the Division, thats like saying B-Hop wasn't great because he didn't beat all of the top light heavy weights. The fact of the matters is he beat the best at 175, just like Mayweather beat the best at the time at 147. -- Extreme HATING may cause constipation.

Gabossboy: Those are excerpts from Dan Rafael Espn Insider Blog. That pretty much sums it up as to why, ppl. like myself, are dissappointed with Money May. It has nothing to do with his talents. He's a very talented fighter, who picks and chooses his opponents.

How goofy is this: Here we have Floyd Mayweather Jr. , the No. 1 boxer in the sport in his prime, refusing to entertain the notion of a match with Miguel Cotto. Mayweather won't even speak the name of the Puerto Rican star, much less consider fighting him. If you bring Cotto up to Mayweather, all you get is a lot of excuses. Yet, Oscar De La Hoya, who is 35 and says he is fighting three more times before retiring (Saturday against Steve Forbes, on Sept. 20 in a rematch with Mayweather and then a finale in December) said recently that he will strongly consider Cotto as his farewell opponent. De La Hoya won't go down as the best fighter ever, but one thing you can never take away from him is that he fought everybody and he seems willing to do that right to the end, even when he doesn't have to. Mayweather, who says he is already the best fighter ever, can't be serious. Yes, he faced De La Hoya at junior middleweight and junior welterweight champ Ricky Hatton moved up to welterweight to fight him, but Mayweather has not fought the best guys in his own welterweight division, which happens to be the deepest in boxing. Take a look at the ESPN.com divisional rankings that I update each week. Of today's top 10 welterweights (Mayweather is No. 1), he has only faced one of the other nine guys, a win against Zab Judah. No. 2 Cotto, on the other hand, arrived at welterweight a full year after Mayweather but has already beaten three of today's top 10: Shane Mosley, Carlos Quintana and Judah, and he is scheduled to face a fourth, Antonio Margarito, in July.
