I know we have some fights that still haven't taken place but if you had to pick right now, I want to know who your top 3 would be for possible fighter of the year candidates? If Pacquiao beats De la Hoya, he'd be #1 on my list.

Pacquiao HAD THIS YEAR! But I think Vic Darchinyan should be at top 3 or 4 for this year's Fighter of the Year! Last 2 fights for Pacquiao will be between this three: JMM PBF Ricky H. If PBF wont comeback I wish for JMM vs MP 3..... Happy holiday guys! -- Guys were calling Oscar a gay coz he fights a small Pacquiao, Now Guys were Making Excuses for Oscar to uplift someone else's status over Pacman! What a BS! You guys need "head transplant"! ________________ EXCUSES were thrown just to disbelief Manny's greatness! ________________________ Beliefs not only affect judgments and behavior, but can even distort what we see!!!! -- Edited by REALspicy at 12/28/2008 7:01 PM PST

The Calzaghe, Margarito and Pacman break imo. 1st off Pac didn't beat JMM convincingly @ all-I for one thought he loss both fights to JMM. David Diaz was a bum with a belt he really didn't earn. David is tough but he fights just like a club fighter. Oscar was a big Fwin regardless on what I think-I wont take it away from Pac-but timing is everything-Oscar didn't look good against Forbes and he looked 10 times worse against Pac. Anyway-2 convincing wins-but a win is a win and I think he's way ahead on the polls because he's every 1's favorite action fighter. Margarito already beat the hell out of a green Cintron I mean I wanted both Cintron and Cotto to win but I knew they would lose. Cotto just wasn't quite there yet imo, but maybe he's as good as he'll ever be. Cotto did a good job early on by a guy that always lose like that to good fighters early on. Calzaghe beat Hopkins-a much better boxer slash fighter than Cotto and Cintron but that's just my opinion. Let's compare Jones to both Oscar and Diaz. After Jones loss to Johnson he defeated a couple of solid fighter and Tito. Call it what you want but @least Jones beat a named fighter in Tito before Joe. Most though Diaz loss to Eric and Oscar last memorable win was Forbes and Maryoga a few years ago. Pick who you want as fighter of the year, but just take your time and break down the winner and what exactly did their opponents do to actually win a belt. Lets not talk about size becaue old ass Evander was last seen getting the better of a guy almost a foot taller and over 100lbs heavier-so if it's about size why not make him fighter of the year. Anyway, either 3 are worthy and I wouldn't be angry @ all who won. First, if JMM wants to win he needs to stay off the mat, plain and simple!!!!! It was convincing to me and a lot of others. As far as Diaz being a bum, I don't totally agree with you. Club fighter, Yeah, but bum?? Well I don't know, I guess that'll be a choice of opinion. You said timing is everything and Oscar didn't look good against forbes and worst against Manny. Hell Jones Jr. was the same way. He didn't look great against Tito, Tito just looked bad. Both fighters are out of gas but a win is a win but if you're going to use that to taint Manny then you have to do the same with Calzaghe. You gave Manny 2 convincing fights, add that he went up in divisions and he beat the Golden Boy! I don't know why but Oscar has been a favorite for a long time. Point blank I don't see Calzaghe getting the fighter of the year award off beating the heck outa Roy and getting a split decision on Hopkins. You never know though!! Size does matter with some fighters. It depends on if they use it. Size is an attribute to me just as speed and stamina. I don't believe that Size is enough unless you're fighting a bum. Holyfield, even in his old age, showed that size isn't enough for Valuev. Holyfield about 5 years ago would've killed him. Maybe 10 years ago!!

So the best way to measure the importance of their individual wins in "2008", would be to compare the quality of the fighters they fought & beat this year & the overall stats on there competition! Then a smart decision can be made without voting for a personal favorite PacMan fought in three different weight classes; hell, he even jumped one to meet Oscar!. Now that is a big measuring stick to use.

Wladimir fought bums!! Calzaghe's wins this year was Hopkins and Jones Jr. Manny beat JMM, David Diaz and Oscar. Margarito beat Cintron and Cotto. Hopkins lost to Calzaghe this year so I wouldn't give it to him just for the Pavlik fight (Even though it was impressive). Looking at this I would give it to Manny. He won 3 fights this year and he won convincingly. You might say that he fought a washed up Oscar but Calzaghe fought a washed up Roy!! Margarito to me would be #2 for the simple fact that he defeated Cotto, who was on his way to be, if he wasn't already, considered a P4P best. Pacquio moved up in weight taking wins on his way up. Calzaghe being undefeated is his only great accomplishment because his wins are tainted by the age of his opponents. After breaking it down I don't see how anyone could get it other than Manny unless somehow Margarito slips in and takes it.

I'm surprised Wlad even got honorable mention although he did win all his bouts decisively.

How about Calzaghe's wins in "2008" and the fact that he's never lost? Its definately between these #2 fighters no-doubt. Bolstered by Manny's latest win earlier this month, no doubt. I don't know, though. I'd pick one of the other choices I think. Big win, sure, but it's one big win. -- ~Susan

On a poll currently being conducted on ESPN, Manny Pacquiao leads the voting with 68%, followed by Antonio Margarito with 12%, Joe Calzaghe with 11%, Bernard Hopkins with 6% and Wladimir Klitschko with 3%.

B-Hop for fighter of the year anyone? He looked beautiful at 43 and showed boxing ability of the highest order. An amazing accomplishment where not many gave him much of a chance. As for fight of the year, Margarito v. Cotto. The fight seemed almost unfair to Cotto-- who fought superbly and threw short sharp accurate punches to Margarito's head all night long. Margarito looked like Michael Meyers out of Friday the 13th (or whatever the name of that horror movie guy with the hockey mask is) -- just coming forward and throwing looping punches despite the onslaught. It was a great fight.

Fighter of the year goes to Manny and I guess the fight of the year would have to go to Cotto -vs- Margarito. I only think people think it was a great fight because not many people thought this fight would end this way. So since it was a fight with a twist I guess I have to agree but there were other fights that were good and could be considered.

I think Cunningham vs Ademak, Marquez vs Vasquez and Marquez vs Pacman were beter fights than Cotto vs Marg. I mean it was still a great show, but it wasn't the best, that's for sure. Vic beat up 2 good champs-no contreversity about shit.

Manny gets it though I think he lost one fight. Cotto-Margarito gets fight of the year though it should go to Marquez-Vaszuez.

Cotto/Margarito gets my vote for FOTY. Pacman gets Fighter Of The Year, hands down. I am with you on that.
