The fighter with the bigger name always calls the shots, i.e. given weighty matters. Same reason Paul was willing to sacrifice size advantages to fight Pavlik and the same reason he's not, to fight Martinez (who has less of a name, as you say). EVERYONE is guilty of it...that being said, I don't see Martinez winning that fight, but it may be a very tricky fight for Williams...Sergio is slicker than a milk dud dipped in baby oil.

Paul Williams is tearn a page out of Roach & Pacquaio's book. He's not willn 2 drop down 2 154lbs to fight Martinez so he's making Martinez move up 2 160. This is what yall need 2 understand, every last 1 of these guys play these freakn games when they think their the man 4 whatever particular opponent their fighting. Martinez is moving up cause Williams is a bigger name and he needs this fight, but if he didn't he would probably tell Williams 2 go -uck himself. I mean Williams is a guy claiming 2 be able 2 move up 2 175 2 fight Clazaghe or move all the way back down 2 fight Mayweather, Pacquaio, Mosely or Cotto, but he wont move down to 154 to fight Martinez in a unification match. Martinez is a 154lbs champ and Williams beat Phillips 4 his beat right? I'm going 4 Martinez, I think he can pull it off

WBC wants corner rule enforced JEJU, South Korea -- The World Boxing Council wants to banish once and for all fathers from working their sons' corners during fights after a study showed it could prove fatal. Speaking at the WBC's annual convention, council president Jose Sulaiman said the organization already had a rule banning fathers from their sons' corners but that it was being flouted. The WBC must strictly enforce this law to prevent errors in judgment that could lead to tragedy in the ring, Sulaiman added. Dr. Paul Wallace, chairman of the WBC's Medical Advisory Board, said that a study in California backed up the WBC's stance. "The most common factor out of all the fatalities that had happened, was having fathers in the corner," he said of the study. "Now, that's not something that's a medical issue, but it's something that's clearly an association." Art Pelullo, president of Banner Promotions, said the emotional link between father and son should preclude them working so closely together during a fight. "A father is not detached enough to make the right decision, because he's looking at what he loves and maybe not seeing what's really going on," Pelullo said. WBC governor Rex Walker said there was the added danger to fathers living out their own dreams through their sons' fists. "Too many fathers live through their kid in the ring," Walker said. "They transform from the corner to the kid, and they want to stay in the fight -- but they're not the ones getting hit." WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto has his father close at hand during his fights, but not in his corner. "Most of the breakups between a father and son happen in the corner because so many emotions are involved," Berto said. "The father tends to step out of his boundary, getting into 'father mode' instead of 'trainer mode'. You have to be able to separate that."

Good thought but poor execution by HBO. as y'all point out, no Bradley or Peterson? Nor even a Holt or even Torres? And why junior welterweight? Why not lightweight or junior lightweight? Or even super welterweight? http://www.fightinsight.com/2009/11/03/miguel-cotto-is-no-pushover-but-he-is-also-no-manny-pacquiao/

If their format calls for six fighters, which it should and easily could, I think the other names most deserving are: Kendall Holt, Amir Khan, Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander and the Diaz-Malignaggi II winner. I doubt Ricky Hatton or Juan Manuel Marquez would want in, because of the tough level of competition and the paltry purses that they'd get relative to what they'd get fighting each other or even Manny Pacquiao.

I just read on boxingtalk that HBO is tryn 2 put 2gether a junior welter weight series. The names mention were Alexander, Maidaina, Khan and Ortiz. Question, what the hell is Ortiz name even being mention for, didn't he just quit against Maidaina in his last fight? I love the idea's-(Don King started it) but what's up With Showtime & HBO rewarding fighters cumn off devasting losses in their last outing a chance like this? Victor quit once and just like Fretaz it's going to be in the back of his mind if it gets 2 tough in there 2 quit again. I think it's just Golden Boy backing him, the Bradly/Peterson winner should be in there and maybe even Kendal Holt

Diaz-Malignaggi 2 in Chicago The rematch between junior welterweights Juan Diaz and Paulie Malignaggi will occur on December 12 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, Fightnews has learned. The site in Chicago beat out two other potential venues in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight, a rematch of a controversial decision win by Diaz in August, will be a 50-50 co-promotion between Lou DiBella (Malignaggi?s promoter) and Golden Boy Promotions (Diaz? promoter). A press conference will likely be held next week to officially announce the fight.

It was a great fight that no one seemed interested in. Its great to have superstars in the sport. But nowadays, the hardcore fans only seem interested in the superfights and mega events. Either way, I was very entertained and would love to see a rematch.

Glenn Johnson needs 2 stop actn like a lil cunt, he's tryn 2 get fans & critics 2 feel sorry 4 him. I like Johnson as a fighter & I really like the way he carries himself but I hate the way he's carried on 4 this particular fight series. Bad Chad beat him fair & square imo-I bet most of the people that thought he won r probably the same 1's who had Castillo beatn Mayweather. I mean he came @ Chad w/guns blazing-he fought a very good/game fight, but do I think he won-NO. Was he robbed HELL NO. He was just sayn how Chad was duckn him & cryn bout this and that now he's always talkn bout their going 2 robb him again. He needs 2 just fight his heart out & leave everything in the ring. Chad said he got caught up n a sluggn match & I believe him-Chad needs 2 box him from round 1 thru 12. Glenn of course will say that Chad ran all night cause a phone booth battle is Johnson's only way 2 win if u ask me

just seen the abraham-taylor fight on ondemand, i dont think arthur looked terribly good in that fight, it seemed as if he already knew he was gonna win and just went through the motions of beating the man up. that is thats what i was thinking right about 2:46 into the twelth then bam arthur landed that very precise right hand that dropped taylor. even then he was very relaxed which is a good thing. many people have abraham as their favorite to win the tournament and after such a devastating knockout theres good reason but i still see alot of things that can be his downfall. his foot placement is a little off he often gets tied up in himself and gets off balance and that could end up being bad. and theres the fact that he leaves himself open when he throws. iv read alot about his defense being good and it is when hes thinking defense but whenever he opens up one of his hands is always low leaving his face open. not only that but he punches wide alot ecspecially with the left hook he throws it wide and wings his right hand behind him and low. if someone throws short hooks when he comes in he cant continuously catch abraham flush. and of course with his peek a boo defense hes vonerable to movement, when you get a fighter like that the best way to beat them is to throw alotta punches in combinations and move just keep circling him and throwing. it wont be terribly exciting or get the ko but its a win and theres one man in the tourny who can do that andre dirrel. iv said before that im not impressed with him and i think hes just a one handed puncher and wont win the tourny but i think he can beat abraham

I haven't seen one post this week about the bantamweight fight tonight between recent Darchinyan conqueror Agbeko and Perez. This is a solid matchup on paper. Is anyone planning on watching?
