..well, I think that discussions of mayweather are a nonissue..he was good at what he did, I didn't like his style of boxing, but hey thats just me and I bet there are other people out there that really admire the guy..

till then let "money" mayweather stay where he is appreciated the most(by me at least) retired..

The boxing rules were introduced to help protect the fighters and have a consensus on the understanding of the sport. Nowadays its common knowledge of the ain rules of boxing. However there are small discrepancies from place to place, and on whether it is an amateur or professional bout. Nowadays, nearly all sanctioned professional fights are controlled by the ABC and their rules. A failure to adhere to these rules will inevitably result in a foul, and can result in a score deductions or disqualification:

No hitting below the belt, hold, trip, kick, head butt, wrestle, bite, spit on, or push your opponent.

One can not strike with the head, shoulder, forearm, or elbow.

One can not strike with an open glove, the inside of the glove, the wrist, the backhand, or the side of the hand.

One cannot strike your oppositions back, or the back of their head or neck.

One cannot strike whilst holding on to the ropes to gain leverage.

You can't hold your opponent and hit him at the same time, or duck so low that your head is below your opponent's belt line.

When the referee breaks you from a clinch, you have to take a full step back; you cannot immediately hit your opponent--that's called "hitting on the break" and is illegal.

You cannot delibraratly spit out your mouthpiece.

If knockdown your opponent, you must go to the farthest neutral corner while the referee carries out the count.

If you knockdown your opponent, you cannot hit him when he's on the ring floor.

A floored boxer has to have a count of ten seconds to get back up on his feet or it will be bonsidered a knockout.

A boxer who is hit in the groin area accidentally has up to five minutes to recover.

If the foul causes an injury but the bout continues, the referee orders the judges to deduct two points from the boxer who caused the injury.

If a foul has happened unintentionally which causes the bout to be stopped immediately, the bout is ruled a "no decision" if four rounds have not been fully finished. If a fighter is knocked out of the ring, he gets a count of 20 to get back up and on his feet. He cannot be helped.

In some sanctioned states the standing 8-count or the 3 knockdown rule also may be in apply.

In other areas, only the referee has the right to stop the fight.

For the record: I like Cotto I think he's a fabulous fighter with a big heart and great skill (He was badly hurt against Ric Torres and got up and KO'd him, he showed his versatility and skill against Mosley when he actually out boxed him). I also think Marg is a good fighter( Great stamina, high punch volume, devastating body puncher, constant pressure and a steel chin). Their styles made for a great fight. Do I see either one beating Mayweather? Not at all. His style is much different; As those who know boxing can clearly see he is a defensive-counter puncher. Not the most crowd pleasing style, but clearly effective. I think he beats both with the more difficult being Cotto. But who knows that's why they fight and we watch( to see what the outcome would be).

You dont know how to read or what ding dong. i dont want cotto to hold but that would have stopped him from taking so much punishment since his defense is not that good. Fact of the matter is this. When mayweather retired he was regarded as pound for pound number 1 by the people who get published, guess what know it all that aint you. None of these self proclaimed best welterweights beat Floyd so you dont know what would have happened. It is said that Floyd never faced someone like Margarito or Cotto, the same can be said of them not facing someone like Mayweather very easily. You need to check yourself because if you knew half of what you think you do and actually were the boxing expert you think you are then you would not be talking to us you would be on espn or hbo or showtime getting paid to express your thoughts.
