Who should De La Hoya fight in his final bout and why?

With all this talk about this being his last fight and probable opponents, I would like to know who the members think he should fight and why? We should take a poll or something and see who the top picks are.

Oscar won't take any serious risk so why fight at all? He doesn't need the money. If he wanted to be taken seriously by any real boxing folks and wanted to be remembered for anything significant in his later career, he'd make an attempt at the linear at 147-Margarito, or Forrest at 154, whom he hasn't wanted anything to do with for a long time.

But by all means, if he wants to go out by sparring with a guy that has been around 130 while he's been 150+, go ahead. Anyone that would pay to see it or give hime any p4p credit at all hasn't paid much attention to the "Golden Girl".

As redundant as it may be I agree on these key points at least.

I'm sure it has. But you're gonna have to forgive me bud. I haven't been around for a bit. Did the rules change? Do I have to go back through all the posts to make sure I'm not being redundant? Or am I free to post my opinion on a subject? Or should I just check with you first to get me up to date?

When I was posting regularly, the guys that were around probably could have guessed I'd have said what I did but you're right. Sorry for weighing in.

Oscar is a great business man, he could fight a bum off the streets on HBO and Dan from espn along with writers, Larry Merchant, average fans and so called die hards would think it was something special. I hope Pacman pulls the upset by dominating him from the 1st bell untill the fight ends.

If The Golden Girl had a sack left at all, which he doesn't and hasn't for years, he would fight Margarito instead of someone whos recently moved up to 20lbs below where Oscar has been for more than five years. But he doesn't, so he won't.

And his bullshit about not fightin anymore Mexican or Puerto Rican fighters over promises to his wife, etc.-Built in cop out. As long as he didn't press Mayweather, he wasn't risking much. His interest in Cotto seemed to peak for a minute but now he has a reason not to fight Cotto and doesn't want the thorough ass beating from Margarito that he would get.

So instead, lets fight the supposed p4p best, which is why Oscar fought Floyd, Whitaker, Trinidad, Hopkins, Mosley II, he's always wanted to be p4p best but even if he wins and beats up a natural FW? This doesn't put him in the p4p class where he has not been for a long time.

Nobody wanted to see ODLH-PBF II but everyone wants to see Oscar-Margarito-at least those of us who want to see him retire for good with a thorough ass beating. He's too old to run from Margarito the way he did from Tito.

Oscar needs to man up and give the fans one final hoorah against somebody his own size or STFU already. I mean I used to be a big fan of his but I have no respect for what he is doing for the sport nowadays.

There's no doubt, that Oscar is good for boxing but the Forbe's fight tells us otherwise. In that fight, he got nailed by a soft puncher. His best days are behind him. Now, that he's schedule to fight, in Dec., what many are calling, David vs. Goliath on PPV, it only shows his greed. The fighter that he really should have fought is Margarito and an exit fight against Trinidad.

Well said, and I have to wonder if he gets pressure not to retire for this reason. It seems like he's been fighting forever and should have retired long ago.

I don't think the women are coming. I doubt they are getting off on Oscar anymore than real boxing fans are. Oscar is slipping in popularity.

Who wants to see Oscar and Manny?
Does anyone really want to see Delahoya bully another small guy? I guess his farewell tour is going to be low risk. Steve Forbes, Manny Pacquia, who's next? This fight is bad for boxing.
