Once again boxing gets a black eye from poor judging. We have a guy who made it very clear in the media that he believes he is being set up to lose by making all the concessions from weight, ring size, opponent's home town, and even the judges selected. He talks to the commissioner and just asks for an assurance that he'll get fair judging and he was assured that he would. All the attention that you'd expect the judging would receive based on this worry of Malignaggi would hopefully make the judging impartial. This was totally not the case, I think this corruption has to stop. Judges who screw up as bad as the 118-110 judge should not be able to continue in this sport. I think a review committee should be in place and go over the judging of each fight. I am very happy that Malignaggi spoke out and said exactly what he felt, he had every reason to say it. He fought a beautiful fight, had great movement, good combos, controlled the ring, controlled the fight and was the better man that night, I hope that counts for something going forward in his career.

Looks like a rematch for Dec 12th is nearly signed (but not signed yet) and it looks to me like Victor Ortiz's camp might just be considering taking on the winner of that considering that they've scheduled Ortiz on the undercard. http://www.badlefthook.com/2009/10/23/1098005/diaz-malignaggi-rematch-nearly Save those rights for now. Malignaggi will need 'em later.

Golden Boy isn't any better than Don King was. They're corrupt and they're f---ing up boxing. The judges who scored this fight for Diaz should be permanently banned from boxing. Diaz was stuck out at the end of PM's stiff jab all night. I just wish that paulie had fought like that against Hatton.

I'm down for the rematch on neutral ground. Didnt play out too well for Juarez. Maybe Paulie catches a break this time.

And as usual in boxing, nobody is held accountable when these situations occur. Who should be held accountable? 1. the judges whose score cards did not clearly represent the fight they were watching 2. Golden boy promotions who promoted a fight knowing all the concessions malanagi had to give up even to get the fight-including the hometown judges.3 HBO-for televising a fight where there were serious questions about its validity even BEFORE it occured.4 the fans-yes i blame us all because as supporters of boxing we let these situations happen over and over again because we love the sport. But if you truly love the sport, make sure these money making entities do the right thing and have much higher standards for the shows they are producing.......are you listening HBO? That also includes announcers who are not so entrenched in the corupt system that they cannot tell the fans honestly what they just witnessed.

I had it 115-113 for Malinaggi. I could see it is you had a close fight for Diaz. But anyone that knows or watches boxing had to know Diaz was getting decision. The 118-110 scorecard does not surprise Big ups to Brooklyns Malinaggi. I wont call it a robbery because if you scored it Diaz way there was some close rounds but the point is Malinaggi was right from the beginning. He never had a fair shake at all

This was hardly a huge heist, but if I had to give it to one fighter, it would've been Malignaggi. Regardless, it was a close fight, and one worthy of a rematch in a neutral location, should Diaz be man enough to grant one. If you'd really like to speak of Texas Robberies, go back to September 10, 1993 (Whitaker-Chavez). The judge who scored the fight 118-110 for Diaz was bought or blind, or both.

Okay, I dont even like Pauli but he clearly won this fight. Ya, his punches dont have any power, but that is not al boxing is about. He clearly outboxed Diaz and made Diaz fight his fight. At times, Diaz looked almost amateurish chasing Pauli around the ring. No ability to cut off the ring or turn the fight into just that, a fight. Hats off to Pauli. Diaz was a perfect opponent for him lacking power and hand speed....

Steve, even though there are about 4 other topics similiar to this one, I'll still reply to yours, lol. Good post, and I agree with everything you said. I think Paulie told the media before the fight because he thought by doing so, there would be less chance of foul play, since the general public would be aware of the situation........... but that obviously didn't stop the powers that be. Paulie had all the reason and right to rant after the bout. This just deters other young people who are thinking about going into boxing, to quit while they're ahead and go into another sport, lol. -- Edited by CSiX at 08/24/2009 9:32 AM PDT
