What do you think of De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao?

Only a couple more weeks remain before the fight. There are two 24/7s under foot and two more to go.

Do you think Manny will be able to handle the weight? Do you think Oscar can "pull the trigger?"

By that time, I thought Cottowas behind by 1-2 points; but it was all rendered moot anyway. That was a bludgeoning.

None of these guys are scared per se, there boxers for Pete's sake...any man or woman who steps in there can't be that scared! That being said, it's all about the risk-reward ratio, and how you see it. Is a fighter smart, if s/he decides to take on someone who they feel more confident of beating for a great buck, or are they scared. I think financially savvy is more appropriate, but I will also say it's not good for the sport in general and us fans in particular. Scared is often misused in these cases....Margarito wanting Cotto and Mosley over Clottey and Williams, Dawson wanting Tarver over Johnson, Mayweather wanting Hatton over Cotto or Margarito...all of the so-called scared guys I mentioned fought EVERYONE and ANYONE as they moved up the ranks, and once they built their "brand," they got pickier. Blame Sugar Ray Leonard for this! :-D

The ducking issue is far from clear and signs point to margarito is scared. the fact that he turned down $6 million in a title unification match with paul williams to fight shane mosley for $2 million says margarito is scared. the upside to beating mosley is microscopic to the upside of beating williams

Bgarza20 I'll tell you what's wrong with Oscar, He's not a great fighter!!!

That's it!! There's nothing else to it. He's lost every big fight or hard fight (however you wanna word it) that he's been in in the last 5 or 6 years. He hasn't dominated anyone since Vargas in 2003. So he really needs to stay away from great fighters because he lost to Hopkins and he's not that fast!!! I agree with you that he's not done. I don't think he'll walk away from the sport on that note. He'll fight a ok fighter and win and then he'll be in another great fight and he'll lose again. HAHA That guy's great at getting to the PPV he just can't win them.

Kinda clears up the ducking issue. And it also proves that Tony is not afraid of Williams. Always knew it was politics keeping these two from getting together. Well in this case its politics and Williams fucking it up by losing to Quintana.

People... it is very simple, Oscar just lost too much weight. He lost the fight way before he stepped into the ring. People do not know how a boxer feels, and goes through when losing a lot of weight unless you are a boxer yourself, or if you are involved in any sport that involves losing weight. Oscar tried to prove to himself he can still make 147 lbs., so he drained himself for 3 months trying to get down to a weight class he has not weighed since 2001. Of course he felt fast because he was lighter, but when he stepped into that ring on fight night he realized he did not have his strength. Lets not forget Oscar normally walks around 160-165 lbs. It is easier to loose a lot of weight when one is young, but it takes a lot out of your body when one gets older. Oscar should and will fight again. He just needs to make smarter decisions on who he fights, and fighting at a weight class favoring him.

"Oscar stay away from boxers who are very fast, and of course left-handed style".

These are the two things Oscar has always had trouble with in his entire career. 3 of his loses came from fast handed fighters Shane Mosley twice, and Floyd Mayweather. Another loss came from recently Manny Pacquiao who has both, very fast or if not, the fastest, and a left-handed boxer. Other left-handed boxers Oscar had trouble with early in his career is Hector Camacho that went to distance, and Pernell Witaker whom many people felt Pernell won. So as Oscar gets older he is going to realize that it is going to get harder for him to deal with speed, and left-handers. My advise, do not fight them. Let the Mayweather, Hatton or Cotto defeat them as their styles is better suited for you. That's smart boxing at your age.

I personally like to see Oscar in the ring above 152 lbs. with guys like Vernon Forest who currently hold the WBC at 154 lbs., Julio Cesar Chavez.... that will make a great story line, Miguel cotto, or even with Antonio Margarito. The reason I say this is because styles make fights. I am not saying that Oscar will win these fights, but they will be more competative.

Oscar lost because he was never Great,Good yeah, but not great.Since i've had some time to think about this I came to the conclusion that he has alot of similarities to Vargas.
THEY BOTH CANT WIN THE BIG ONE!

there was no immediate rematch because the WBO had already decided that Carlos Quintana would be the mandatory challenger for the winner of the fight. after margarito lost he went to the WBO and demanded a rematch. He was told that of he beat golden johnson and williams beat quintana then he would get his rematch. things obviously didnt work out when quintana beat williams in a close fight most felt williams won even though he had an off performance. and ever since then margarito shits his pants when someone mentions paul williams

Hey Man! Great commentary. I was really suprised as well by Oscar's lack-luster performance. Maybe he just had a bad night (not to mention how weak he must have felt due to the weight loss). Any one can have a bad night. Are we 100% every day on our 9-5 jobs? No. Some days we feel like we could run the place and other days, we start looking at the clock as soon as we start our shift. Right? (LOL).

And, as quiet as it's kept, Oscar has his own share of "demons". It's sad that so many of them have to be played out in public. For example, losing his mother, out-classing his older brothers (in boxing) and the marginal relationship with his father. All of this is tough stuff to cope with - for anybody.

I am not an Oscar fan. The only fight I was really cheering him on for was his fight against Vargas (who is a MAJOR asshole!). For me, it was one of the greatest moments in recent boxing history when he knocked that loud-mouth out. I used to like Vargas until I realized just how ghetto and arrogant he is. Just think how you would feel if his "wife" were your daughter. Three kids and no wedding. Give me a break!

I am willing to bet 2 weeks's pay that Oscar comes back, fights a relatively "easy" fight and goes out on top. Oscar is NOT a loser. He lost a fight...which he has done before. But I don't see him allowing his career to end on a loss.
Maybe he'll fight Roy Jones (whom he can beat), Felix Trinidad (for revenge) or maybe Zab Judah (whose ass he can kick without training - Zab is lazy and a quitter).

Hang in there, Bro. Oscar has at LEAST 2 more wins under his belt. I am sure of it!

As I said, I'm no Oscar fan (I've seen him "win" too many fights that he actually lost : Thurm (the German Guy), Sweet Pea and many others) but he's a STAND UP, CLASSY, PROFESSIONAL, and seemingly "good hearted" brother and I wish him ALL the best.

He'll be fine!

Just another one of your brothers in Boxing.

Happy New Year, Dawg!

I was pretty disappointed with the fight (Oscar fan). Pac Man fought very well.

For a minute I thought Oscar was rope-a-doping, almost trying to tire Manny out. Turned out not to be the case.

A perfect Roach plan confused Oscar.

No more A competition for The Golden Boy.

Still, an impressive overall resume for De La Hoya.

Good win for Manny. Looking forward to the Hatton fight.

It was the asswhopping of the century. I think De La Hoya should've worn his fishnet stockings to the fight. That would've brought him some luck. :^O

Fight with Shane will be interesting enough. DOnt know that Margarito can knock out Shane. Shane has a pretty good chin. Shane not really a boxer and move. Even though he has good hand and foot speed he likes to get in there and mix it up. I dont think he will implement Cotto's desired stategy agaisnt Margarito. I dont think Shane is gonna have the power to hurt Margarito either. Margarito by decision or late TKO..

To end this though, if Shane would stick and move around he would have a better chance.

Cotto had the fight won if he could've kept sticking and moving, so he had the plan to beat Margarito but didn't expect Margarito to take everything and keep moving forward. Shane knows what to expect from him now so if Mosley can get his stamina up and out punch slow Margarito then he won't have to hurt him to beat him!
