The other day I was watching the Klitschko Chagaev fight and before and after that they had some really good fights on from the 80's. I think one of the best fights I'd ever seen and to me it's in my top 3 was Ray Boom Boom Mancini against Livingstone Bramble the rematch. Seeing Mancini run out there all bloodied and swollen and just wanting to fight was just like a real life Rocky situation. The guy was so impressive even though he lost it was an amazing performance. Are there any recent fights that stand out as an all time favorite or one's from way back? I'd like to know what they are.

I forgot all about the Holyfield/Qawi fights. Holyfield is always remember as a good HW but he was a god at Cruiserweight. He could have stayed at that weight his entire career and probably gone undefeated. You gotta give Evander credit, he made his decision to move up to HW when there was some big opposition in the ranks. And he fought them, he didn't just talk about it like Haye. Bowe/Holyfield 1. I remember that boxing was in a resurgence of popularity at the time (thanks to Tyson) so this fight had a lot of hype going into it. Both were undefeated and neither had even been knocked down before. There was a belt on the line. They were heavyweights. And they were both incredibly talented. The fight was amazing. They were Heavyweights but fought like Welterweights. Bowe was at his absolute peak and was smooth as silk with his punches. Evander was at his absolute peak and took an amazing amount of punishment without ever slowing down. As far as i'm concerned it was the last great HW fight and might never be matched (at least in that division). It's a shame that Bowe/Holyfield 2 gets all the attention just because of the "Fan Man". I wish ESPN Classic would play this fight instead of the second one, which pales in comparison. Holyfield may have lost the trilogy but Bowe lost the war. He was never the same after the first fight, which is a shame because Bowe was an amazing talent early in his career.

Chavez fought a bunch of bums and racked up a lot of easy victories for the most part. WHen he finally faced some talent, they all beat him. Taylor, Whitaker, and Oscar. Of course Oscar got him at the end of his career but he fucked him up real good. There were alot of big names around when Chavez was in his prime but he waited until they were all gone to move up in weight. He may have gotten alot of victories but will always be way overrated in my mind. -- Douglas

this is about favorite fights not about greatest fights. i was the biggest chavez fan as a youngster. the fact that chavez took everything taylor had to offer and still came back to put him on his ass, similar to marg and cotto. great comeback. im would not have been mad if chavez lost, i know the rules. this was a pride thing for me. it looked like chavez had no chance of winning and he fucked him up. when taylor went down the fans were either screaming at the top of their lungs or their jaws dropped in disbelief.

Everything else is jacked up. Never said Duva was holding a towel. He was screaming at Taylor from the ring apron. At no time was Duva holding a towel with the intention of throwing it into the ring(if that is what you are implying). Anyways, my point is this> How could this be someones favorite fight when it is one of the most disuputed stoppages ever. Most experts will agree that Taylor should have been allowed to continue for the same reasons I have stated. Oh well, whats done is done. It has always been a sore spot for me. -- Douglas

We are sad to report that former world champion Vernon Forrest was tragically and senselessly murdered at about 11PM on Saturday night in Atlanta during an attempted carjacking. Reportedly Forrest had stopped at a gas station to put air in the tire of his late model Jaguar when two thugs attempted to take his vehicle. Forrest had a firearm and a chased away his assailants but according to Atlanta police, in an ensuing firefight Forrest was shot eight times with semi-automatic weapons.

I'm relatively new to boxing, but my favorite fight as of yet is Gatti - Ward I. It was just insane!

Unless someone presents me a rule book. From mine understanding the ref's job is not to say oh their is only a few seconds in a rounds so he wont get any damage Like u said, Duva is holdin a towel and Meldrick Taylor is unresponsive. Ewashi was he effed over? Of course he was. I dont argue that but if Meldrick Taylor would of shook his head, said I'm ready to go instead of stupified the fight would of continued so Meldrick has only his self to blame. Everything else is jacked up.

Not a top top favorite, BUT ... searching youtube (since i had never seen it) after the mention in Rafael's ESPN blog ... Benn-Barkley: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4350260&name=rafael_dan -- Cruiserweights - what the heavyweight division would be if the heavyweight division didn't really really really suck.

I will put two down here for sentimental reasons: Lewis-Klitschko ... the last great heavyweight fight. Amazing ticker shown by Vitali, an amazing happy accident that the fight even took place. If only that cut could have been closed it would have been even better. Moorer-Foreman ... still the single most remarkable moment in my years of watching fights. The fight was a dud for a lot of it, but the sheer out of nowhere nature of the conclusion ... and of course the significance. -- Cruiserweights - what the heavyweight division would be if the heavyweight division didn't really really really suck.
