Turning down an opportunity to spar...

Reading this article about Omar Henry (who attended the same high school I did) who has turned down the chance to spar Pacquiao because it conflicted with his school schedule.

He's young yet, 22, and I guess I should be impressed that he has his eye on the ball of graduating, but he clearly wants to box. I can't help but wondering what the opportunity of sparring a fighter of Pacquiao's reputation could have done to bolster his career.

But will it hurt his career?

He probably doesn't wanna get his head all ding'd up messin with Pac. Gotta preserve that brain for the mid term that's coming up lol. It could be that his pride refuses him to get into any type of scrap that would lead to embarrassment. Maybe he got the Mayweather bug.

The kid does fight like Cotto. He's making the right move getting his education but he's got the skill to make a ton of money boxing too.

I never thought I would say this, but dingo, please go back to your anti-Mayweather crusade. Because when you use the words Manny Pacquaio and Ray Robinson in the same sentence, you officially lose all rights to try and make a sensible post.

Omar is too young to recognize a golden opportunity presented to him.

Years from now he'll be replaying in his head on what could have been.

How many opportunity you have to spar with the P4P king of the time and best fighter of his generation.
College classes are always going to be there, next year, the year after that, 10 years from now.

30 years down the line he could have been telling his grandkids about the time he sparred with the all-time great, Manny Pacquiao.

It's like refusing to be the sparring partner of Sugar Ray Robinson. Pacquiao has the same auro as Ray, popular, fight all comers, don't run from anyone, AND they both have what only a couple or few boxers possess.
....TO STOP YOU WITH SPEED AND A ONE PUNCH KO....what fighter has that today other than Pacquiao?

I didn't go to school with him, he's young enough to be my son - but we both attended John Hersey High School. Dave Corzine (former Bull among other NBA teams) went there too, back in the 70s.

LOL on the candy bar! The interview and stuff you posted were interesting to watch.

And I agree, ShowDaBoxing, it's nice to see an athlete seemingly put so much stock in education. So many don't.

I'm not one who jumps at the bandwagon. This young man has a good head on his shoulder. Education will be there for him, long after a boxing career.

Watching him fight, reminds me of Cotto. His fighting style is very similar. It's no wonder, that Roach needed him, to prepare Pacquiao, for his up coming match.

Ha hah Cucaracha.

Do you think Pacquiao is on steroids?
Watching Pacquiao carry his power to the higher weight classes has me wondering is he is juicing. Being a personal trainer I know that it is very difficult to move up in weight and stay ripped. The Phillipines and Indosia are two of the biggest markets for steroids.
