I do agree that seeing an ex WW go to HW and beat a guy, even if its a guy like ruiz is impressive. But Ruiz was hand picked because he was ripe for the pickin. Ruiz was not th e type of HW that got tougher as the fight got tough. HE also was not a swarmer, or a guy with extreme physical advantages, like lewis or kiltschko otr valuev. He wasn't one of those extreme hard hiiters like a tyson, ibeabuchi, tua. He wasn't a boxer llike an ali. he was just a guy that punched you once or twice and clinched. EVEN In PR he is considered a joke by many. but RJJ had these remnants of huge grease bumps on his back. i think they had benn surgically removed, but you could still see the marks on his back in the close ups. he may have been on steroids. BEating ruiz s still impressive, though. The steroids, if he did take it, would not have stopped a lot of HW's from beating Jones. -- I came I saw and I conquered

My thinking is that he would fight more like he fought against Ruiz and use the referee for a shield.

I think you are greatly underestimating the massive size advantages both Klitschkos and Lewis would have had over Jones. I think all three knock Jones into orbit inside five rounds.

Yeah, you are right about Jones' win being impressive and he looked bad against Tarver in the next fight due to his rapid weight loss. Jones made a BIG mistake going back down to lightheavy especially considering all the bucks to be made against beatable opposition (excluding Lewis and the Klitschkos) in the heavys.

I agree that Ruiz was a joke, but I think Jones' victory over him was impressive. I could care less about the belt because Lennox Lewis was the heayweight champion, but a former middleweight beating a top 5ish heavyweight, no matter how bad he is is impressive.

Ruiz was a bad joke.As for his "run' as a "champion" that would have ended quickly if Don King was ever foolish enough to match him with one of the Klitschkos. Roy Jones victory over him for the phoney WBA title amounted to zero.

He didn't have many options at the time.

I agree, Hopkins knew the risk (losing) to Jones was far more likely against Jones in a rematch, and at that 40% rate was not worth it when he could fight smaller men for more money (insert Oscar . That being said, I do not think Hopkins is scared of ANY fighter...well, maybe, James Toney, whom he backed out from fighting (saying he was too big and it wasn't worth what he would be giving up in weight and money)...yet, he fought Tarver later...hmmm? -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2008/06/09/re-enter-paul-williams-exit-floyd-mayweather/

> Maybe I'm wrong but I thought he vacated the title > when he went to HW-then Tarver fought Montell Griffen > for the vacated belt then Roy came back down and took > it back from him. OK, I think I know where we're different. I remember one of the ABC groups stripped Jones of a belt when he fought Ruiz and that's what Tarver and Griffin fought for. I don't really reconize the ABC belts. Jones never vacated the linear title, and I remember Ring Magazine listing him as light heavyweight champ and ranking him as a heavyweight. My mind just didn't attach title match to the fight between Tarver and Griffin. I always viewed Tarver's KO of Jones in the second fight as the beginning of his reign as light heavyweight champ.
