Berto looked like crap. I think he's taking the route Zab Judah took. What's that? To be a celebrity amongst celebrities. He look like he was fighting for all the homeys on the block and the rappers. He didn't impress me, though he thought he was doing that by being flashy. Andre was my dude until this fight. He didn't listen to his coaches in the corner. He ignored them and went straight for the head which really didn't do anything to Forbes. It just made it a long boring fight. The reason why he fought that type of fight? I believe its cause he knew forbes couldn't knock him out. He also feels like he is the hardest hitting puncher and wanted to be the first to knock him out with a head shot. I think he could've had an easy 8th round knock out by digging to the body early in the fight.. Instead we watched a boring ass fight for 12 rounds. Come to think of it i compare Andre Berto to a young Jermaine Taylor. Ego's + arrogance = Destruction. Although, Andre felt at his best i think Cotto could've beat him that night. Clottey would crush him and Margarito would put him a mental institute. It's sad to me because Berto has tremendous potential but not if he shows that ego and cockiness that he carried through out that fight. He didn't look like a champ to me. If your not listening to your corner-men why are they even in your corner? Someone needs to just sit his bottled water and vasoline next to his corner so he can do it all by himself. No smarts, just muscles, conditioning and ego. He was the undercard too. -- Edited by Shadik at 09/29/2008 9:23 AM PDT

I've always wondered what they were telling him.....That's why I started yelling at him when he fought Tubbs here in Spokane and he started going to the body as soon as I did. The OP says they told him plenty in the corner. I'll have to watch the fight again without company around to distract me.

Speaking of Berto's corner I think they are underrated. I have never felt that they've given him bad or questionable advice. It is usually a matter of him listening to them. When he goes to the body he does really well. I fear he'll get to caught up on head hunting as he progresses. If he develops into a fighter that throws body punches constantly then he'll be alright. -- "To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." ~Andre Gide

I don't think him over rated. I just think he forgets what his corner tells him about the body once he stands off that stool......and he's always tended to do that. He does use his jab more than he used to.

yea i agree i think hes a bit over rated i mean from what ive seen he doesnt really have a chin and he has a mindset of a amatuer fighter, but i dont know i could be wrong. but he does have ridiculous hand speed.

Cotto for the 4th time I've ever seen in my life actually outclassed someone and lost. -- "To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." ~Andre Gide

I said if Cotto took a re-match with Tony, that it would be a statement in itself. Of course Cotto can win, I'm not sure he will though, Margarito may just be too big and strong for him.

The single adjustment that could make the difference is: Staying at center ring for longer by digging a shoulder into AM's chest and working inside rather than backing straight into a corner. Cotto CLEARLY outlanded AM, but the retreat gave AM an edge mentally, physically and in the minds of the judges. Cotto doesn't need a landslide change or a miracle. He won most of the rounds (whether the judges realized it or not!). He just needs to survive another 5 minutes and let the cards do their thing. He CAN win a decision.

Berto is Miles up the skill road compared to lacy. Lacy was just a really buff D fighter. He was always to slow and just to Muscle bound to do anything of real notability. He was a good performance waiting to happen. It just so happened that Joe C is the guy that did it. -- "To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." ~Andre Gide

Judah is a well known Nut job (and this is coming from a fan of his) ... and Malignaggi couldn't bust a grape, in a fruit fight. Berto hits hard... couple that w/ his speed and the sense of calm he exhutes...and I"m speculating hell for Cotto. -- "After coming into contact with a religious man I always feel I must wash my hands" - Friedrich Nietzsche.

I honestly dont know why cotto wants a rematch with margarito, and im cottos biggest fan, he fought a great fight, he just got hurt and margarito stopped him. wat can he do different?? run more and hold more? that will make the fight boring and un-eventful. i dont know how he beats margarito, other than margarito i like cottos chances in the welterweight division.

Speed kills, but you act like fast fighters have never gotten their butt whipped, cotto beat malignaggi and he was faster than cotto, and so was zab judah, i mean i dont know how good berto is, thats all im saying, hes a good up and coming fighter, but how good is he really?

I totally agree, Cotto is an animal. Margarito won, and I had money on the stoppage, because he was too big for Cotto. Cotto will ruin Berto like Calzaghe ruined Lacy.

I used to dog Cotto (primarily when he was at 140) ... but over the last few fights , I've developed a newfound respect for the man's ability and in the process I've become a fan. With that being said - I think Berto has a VERY GOOD (50/50 or better) chance of beating Cotto now. With all other attributes being equal (except speed) ... I'm thinking Berto's speed would be the key. If he could adhere to an "in & out" game plan...and not decide to bang with Cotto, I think his speed would negate anything Cotto would try to rally. Speed Kills. If Cotto and Berto signed for a bout tommorrow....I'm not sure I'd pick against Berto. -- "After coming into contact with a religious man I always feel I must wash my hands" - Friedrich Nietzsche. -- Edited by GoldenGluvs at 10/07/2008 1:01 PM PDT
