Bradley-Campbell

While it appears that P4P King Manny Pacquaio is gonna be participating in yet another superfight this fall, the #1 Contender to his newly won 140 lb title is staying busy with yet another tough opponent. #1 ranked 140 lb contender Timothy Bradley is scheduled to fight former top lightweight contender Nate Campbell on August 1, and it will be televised by Showtime. Bradley and Campbell are coming off tough fights, and I'm surprised that each would take on such a tough assignment right outta the gate.

In Bradley's last fight with 140 lb contender Kendall Holt, I thought Holt was clearly the better fighter. Bradley came off the floor twice to earn a close decision. I called the recent Cotto-Clottey fight a bloodier version of Bradley-Holt. Why Holt and Clottey were clearly the better fighters, they seem to not want the fights as much as Bradley and Cotto.

In Campbell's last outing, he was very fortunate to get a decision over lightweight contender Ali Funkea. After failing to make the lightweight limit of 135, Campbell was outboxed by the freakishly tall Funkea. But, because of two knockdowns, Campbell won the decision and left the lightweight division.

These are two fighters that have a lot of things in common. They are both solid, but far from spectacular fighters. They both are top contenders in a weight range where a lot of the sport's superstars are fighting for ridiculous amounts of money. And while Bradley and Campbell are good, and respected, they aren't on the stars such as Mayweather, Pacquaio, Marquez, Mosley, or Cotto's radar. Fights like this, especially if the winner does it in spectacular fashion, can get people talking about the winner fighting one of those star fighters.

While they are both good fighters, I think Bradley is gonna win. Campbell is a good fighter, but let's be honest. He's basically been an underachieving journeyman, who waited until he was in his late 30s and a grandfather no less, to take the sport seriously. And coming off his career reviving win over Juan Diaz, in his last fight he showed the same lack of commitment by not making weight, that has plauged his career. And while Bradley is much younger, he has no lack of disipline. As we blog, Bradley is probably in the gym staying in shape. The punch Holt hit him with in the first round usually ends fights. If Bradley is not in shape, he loses that fight via KO1. And I think his youth and commitment to the sport is what will win this fight for him. I don't think the extra 5 lbs are gonna help Campbell. Its just gonna give a guy who isn't disiplined an excuse not to train as hard as he should for a fight of this magnitude. I'm looking forward to the fight, and I'm picking Bradley by UD.

And to this day, there is still zero proof that Margarito cheated against Cotto.

or against anyone else.

Yeah you're right. Mentally I can have a huge effect on someone especially when I'm punching them in the head with bricks. Somebody should catch this guy and do him in Sierra Leone style by chopping his hands off.

Cotto gets much props from me for his effort against Clottey. I think the Margarito-Cotto fight was a different animal though. IMO Margarito whipped Cotto mentally more than he did physically.

Cotto's fight with Margarito did indeed set the standard, which Campbell followed-

When you realize you can't win, get the hell outta there!

Cambell bitched out and lost a ton of respect from a ton of fans. After watching the Cotto/clottey fight I coulda swore it was gonna set the standard for other fighters as far as tougness goes. On another note Bradley has been looking nice lately, he don't got one overbearing physical trait that sets him apart from the others. But he do got heart, and seems to work his ass off in the gym. I'm a fan.

IMO, Nate Campbell totally DQ'd himself from ever being taken seriously again. He was getting schooled, and was probably gonna get stopped, so he looked for an out so he could keep his name out there and get another payday.

Bradley is a good fighter, but I don't see him making it outta the third round against Pacquaio. That being said, there are some good fights available to him at 140 while Pac is doing the mega and superfight thing. Is Devon Alexander good enought to fight Bradley now? What about Amir Khan? Personally, I would like to see HBO take some interest in Bradley and put him in with the Diaz-Malignaggi winner in a BAD main event with Alexander-Khan as the co-feature.

Campbell appeal hearing set!

Nate Campbell wasted no time in initiating the process to petiton the California State Athletic Commission to overturn referee David Mendoza?s ruling in Saturday night?s WBO Championship fight against Timothy Bradley. Campbell?s co-promoter and advisor Terry J. Trekas retained highly respected attorney Josh Dubin to handle the appeal process, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for August 24th in Los Angeles. Campbell is also takng no chances in regards to his vision, and will be traveling to Tampa on Wednesday for a follow up examination with an ophthalmologist. ?The doctor at the hospital told me that this should clear up within a few days to a week. I went to Vernon?s memorial service on Monday, and my vision was better than it was on Sunday. And today was better than yesterday, but this isn?t something to play around with, so I?m going to get another exam tomorrow. Cuts heal, blindness doesn?t,? said Campbell.

He is going after everybody in 140. I respect him.HBO needs to talk with this guy. He may force the networks to put something together. As for Campbell, he needs to fight Kendall Holt. One of them have to go.

It's a no-contest ... not a blemish for Bradley ... it is a non-result. Bradley did himself a world of good with the win. Unfortunately he is in the next tier of 140/147s buzzwise. But I like his style - more workmanlike than awe inspiring granted. Lot of pressure, albeit without a ton of zip ... a bit like Juan Diaz that way. And being raised on SHOBox, the network has a lot of inherent interest in him.

I would like to see a matchup with Bradley/Peterson. That's an exciting matchup! Both styles mesh nicely.

Campbell really has no excuses now. I really don't have any further interest in seeing him in a rematch with Bradley. I'd really rather see a rematch between Bradley and Holt instead, but failing that I would enjoy a match between Bradley and Marcos Maidana.

no reason for a rematch unless Campbell beats somebody else. he made this bed, let him lay in it.

well make no mistake that tim bradely appeared to be on his way to an easy victory... and this is definitly a no contest. i would like to add that i do think nate wouldve stepped it up and right before the headbutt you can see that nate came out in that round with more pep in his step. it may have turned into an interesting fight had campbell fought at his best. im not a fan of tim bradley but he seems to be getting better everytime out. i would like to see him fight devon alexander. but first lets see if ante can do better than he did... i think he can test bradely and at his best maybe beat him
