Chad Dawson A Boxing Superstar...Not

Greenwich, Connecticut - The Paper Champions Society reports that the boxing hierarchy has been on a desperate mission to anoint paper champion Chad Dawson as one of the boxing stars of the future but thus far they have failed miserably.

The national membership director for the Paper Champions Society Tom Rutowski, states that the first time Chad Dawson fought Antonio Tarver reliable sources mentioned this uninspiring fight achieved a live gate paid attendance of an paltry sum of 911 tickets and a terribly low television rating.

"After the failure of the first fight between Dawson and Tarver you would think the powers that be in boxing would realize that you cannot turn a paper champion like Chad Dawson into a superstar. However, Chad Dawson was given yet another opportunity to fight Tarver in rematch and show the boxing world he will never become a boxing superstar. This time, Chad Dawson the favored headliner in the rematch, bombed at the box office again selling only 1,400 tickets. " Tom Rutowski explained.

"When is the boxing hierarchy going to wake up, smell the coffee and realize that Chad Dawson has been given enough opportunities to become the next boxing superstar but he has repeatedly dropped the ball. Chad Dawson is the kind of fighter who doesn't care about his legacy or putting on exciting fights for the fans who pay their hard earned money. The boxing business is being extorted by a pampered fraud like Chad Dawson who wants to make the big money but refuses to give the fans what they pay for, real fights. " Tom Rutowski explained.

"When Chad Dawson fights it should be mandatory for boxing fans to have a remote control, a blanket and a pillow in close proximity. Chad Dawson's fights have been known to cause coma like symptoms in a large percentage of boxing fans worldwide. At this point in his boxing career, no one has ever taught Chad Dawson the characteristics of what makes a real world champion. Just because you have a title belt around your waist that doesn't automatically make you fight like a champion. " Tom Rutowski explained.

Chad Dawson hasn't earned the right to make big paydays in the sport of boxing. Chad Dawson needs to look in the mirror and ask himself does he want to continue disappointing the boxing fans. By allowing himself to show that he is a under achiever that continuously puts on boring fights in the ring.

On the other hand, will Chad Dawson finally man up and give the fans some exciting fights worth talking about? The answer to this question remains to be seen.

Dawson just needs to stay at 175lbs and dominate the division. If he does that the fights will come to him. Everyone at 168 will move up to fight him if he makes a name. Bute, Andrade, Ward, Direll. And he has guys like Hopkins, Jones, Cloud, Pascal. There are fights for him there.

Coming off of his impressive victory over Glen Johnson, Chad Dawson has finally cracked The Ring's P4P Ratings, debuting at #9. He also regained his #1 light heavyweight rating. Isreal Vazquez and Rafael Marquez have been removed from the P4P ratings making room for Dawson's debut and Paul Williams' return at #10.

Some people say Hopkins isn't great. They say he beat a mediocre division 2x each. Took no challenges. Waited too long.

I guess Hopkins isn't great, either...since he couldn't ko the confused punching bag he had in front of him, huh?

Man, Hill couldn't break an egg with a punch. Good win for Hearns. Good fighters do that, a great fighter KO's his ass ! Hill went on and lost and regained that title twice more I believe. I think like Pavlik, he underestimated the old man.

He was almost 4 years into his 175lb reign when he lost to Hearns.

Hearns...was way past his prime by then. Prime time, and prime weight.

Also, ewashi....you said Hearns couldn't switch it up, huh? How about the OLD MAN going up to 175 and OUTBOXING the younger dude who was pure boxer himself?

Didn't the Hearns loss occur when he was still young?

I don't think Chad really has a choice. 168 is where the action is - not because the guys are household names, but because they are not. That is, the Super Six, Andrade, Bute are all emerging but none of them are big stars yet - though the winner of the Super Six will have a hell of a springboard. So there is no superfight for Chad at 168 - and I am discounting Paul Williams in this discussion. So he has to wait around 175, beating two of the three old men of the division twice each and having the third not fight him. Really he should stay, but become a road warrior (he'll have to) and just make a great event.

I liked Virgil, and thought he was pretty good. But, aside from his crazy Dakota crowds, his fights were not always entertaining. He had no right hand to speak of....

Yes, it worked out well for Hill. No shame in losing once he aged. Point is, he fought where he could best utilize his talents. Chad is simply not exciting to watch.

Did it really work that well for Virgil Hill? No question there were periods where he ruled Light Heavy.....but with an iron fist? He got beat by an over the hill Tommy Hearns did he not?

Johnson was fine - Dawson is just better. Dawson will never be an "A-sider" with his style and lack of drama - but he will win a lot of fights. While he says he can get down to 168, really there are not going to be many fights where he is going to be "the draw". So personally, I'd like to see Chad go on the road to Montreal against Pascal if that is indeed the match - he deserves to have a fight in a place where you can't hear individual fans conversing during the fight.
