dax, no matter how much you try and discredit Baldomir, he was the unversally recognized welterweight champ. There is no way around that. Boxing is filled with underdog champions. Just becasue an underdog wins the title doesn't mean that the title lineage is stopped. All roads at welterweight led to Baldomir. Whether it was Mayweather, Mosley, Cotto, Williams, Margarito, or whoever. They could have fought and beat anyone they wanted. But until they beat Baldomir, they weren't the welterweight champ. But I have a sneaky feeling that if anyone other than Mayweather had beaten Baldomir, you wouldn't have had any problems recognizing them as the real welterweight champ.

Margarito had a paper, vacant title that he won in a fight with Antonio Diaz. Baldomir beat the undisputed champ Judah. Margarito was a paper titlist that was coming off a loss, and his bets win was against an untested prospect. Baldomir had beaten Judah for the lineal title, and then KO'd gatti. Mayweather fought the right guy. I got a feeling that if Mayweather had fought Margarito and not Baldomir, you'd be saying he ducked "Mr. 12 Losses."

The reason people call Baldomir the lineal champ was because he beat the man that beat the man. That's the way it works. And as I've explained to you before, Mayweather didn't have any other options. You can say Margarito all you want. But the fact is, he was in rebuild mode after the lost to Santos. Mosley had a toothache. And Cotto had yet to make his welterweight debut, and had recently declined a fight with Money at 140. And even if one of those guys had been available, Mayweather fought the champ. No matter what happen in the division, all roads led to Baldomir.

Whatever the reason, Mayweather fought the champion of the division. And no matter how little you respect the champion of that time, Mayweather, Margarito, and every other welter was looking up at Baldomir. Mayweather just happen to the the one to take him out.

I agree. I've never seen a fighter criticized for fighting the champion in a division before I joined this forum.
