Friday Night Fights

The old FNFs thread seems to have disappeared. Here's a new one to discuss the ESPN series.

I dont' know Jabs...from what I seen of Jackson, he had a much deeper arsenal.

Bailey only seemed capable of dispersing one quality shot: a straight right. There were no hooks and he never even attempted to throw the uppercut (which IMO, was there all night).

Even his jab blows which I think he was intentionally pawing with, to gauge distance...and I understand that every jab can't be a solid one....but every so often, he shoulda put some steam on it. He never did.

Also...Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Jackson had more stam than Bailey. Dude was gassed, immobile and flatfooted by the 3rd (Prior to Urango, really doing any serious damage).

I think any fighter that knows to look for a straight right, should have NO FEAR of Bailey. I only see him KO'ing 'C' level opp.....

Pug, thanks but I don't think anybody is ever going to pay me to write about boxing. But the way I see it, I get to write about boxing in here almost daily. Good times...

" It was an entertaining scrap that realized the expected variables. Urango pressed like a bull from the get-go, Bailey caught him with a BONE CRUSHING right hand that dropped him in the middle rounds. Urango recovered and continued to press like a bull behind wildly winged bombs. Bailey eventually couldn't hold him off and folded before his corner threw in the towel... arguably a little later than they could have, but at least they stopped it."

What's impressive is that Bailey didn't even get close to extending and he did that kind of damage to the brick-headed s.o.b. That right hand is a bear.

Bailey is a lot like Julian Jackson.....capable of knocking out, or being knocked out by, every single foe he faces.

Great fight. Maybe not fight of the year - but it does get a seat at the table. Lots of drama, contact etc. Not a surprising result.

That said, I was amazed Urango got up from the Bailey right hand. He is moving up to 147 (Bailey) -- he will never be a "great" fighter ... but when you have that right hand, you are always "in" the game.

It was an entertaining scrap that realized the expected variables. Urango pressed like a bull from the get-go, Bailey caught him with a BONE CRUSHING right hand that dropped him in the middle rounds. Urango recovered and continued to press like a bull behind wildly winged bombs. Bailey eventually couldn't hold him off and folded before his corner threw in the towel... arguably a little later than they could have, but at least they stopped it.

I meant to say I would love to see Cloud fight the Dawson-Johnson II loser.

Me too. I think Cloud could use a little work on the defensive side of things before tangling with those guys. He has a right hand that could make things pretty interesting against Dawson though, who also goes through defensive lapses.

Woods showed a lot of grit and toughness that defines his career but didnt have enough for the young lion.

I would love to see Dawson fight Cloud but its too early. Cloud just won a title. Dawson will chase money fights with Hopkins and Roy but if Cloud stays on his grind, beat a few mandatories Dawson will have no choice but to face him.

by the way hitking... Johnson aint beating Dawson. He couldnt do it the first time and he wont be as good the second time around

I only gave 3 rounds to Bailey in that bout...but that bomb almost got Urango. Urango, like Librado Andrade, is like something out of a George Romero flick. It just keeps coming.

I would love to see Cloud fight the Dawson-Johnson II winner, which will probably be Johnson. But, if he can't get that, Tarver or RJ would be a good next step for this guy. Cloud is really short for today's light heavyweights, and I'm not sure that he'll be able to compete with the likes of B-Hop or Dawson. That being said, he's strong as hell and has a ridiculous workrate for a light heavy. I don't know what the future holds for this kid. But I do know that he's a player in the light heavyweight division.

Cloud/Woods was fun to watch. I thought the fight would get stopped...Woods took a lot of bombs.
