Which of the two gameplans should Cotto apply against Pacquiao?

Which of the two do you think, gives him a bigger winning chance?

A) Be the agressor, plodding forward, throwing his bodypunches trying to break Manny down

B) Counterpunching approach. Take what he learned from the JMM/Pacquiao fights and apply it, moving around waiting for the counter (I.E. he did some of that vs Mosley)

The problem is 6, Vargas was shot, and Mayorga sux. Hell, come to think of it, Vargas always sucked and sucked even more when he fought Mosley because he was shot. But I guess we should disregard those fights becasue he almost beat the great Cotto and KO'd the immortal Margarito. IMO, those fights you spoke of speaks to the level of fighters that Mosley, Cotto, and Margarito really are. But who cares? My man Pac has another "superfight" set up on a tee for him. And just like with Hatton, he's gonna knock that muthaf*cka outta the park.

Cotto vs. De La Hoya @ 154, I'll go with De La Hoya too.

The Golden Boy usually don't have any problem with Puerto Rican fighters.

Just like how he easily outpointed Tito Trinidad, although he got penalized by the judges by giving a gift decision to the Puerto Rican, when Oscar took it easy in the last 3 rounds, since he was already way ahead in points... :O

I think so too. Cotto is sooo easy to hit, and de la Hoya has one of the best left hooks ever. I would pick Cotto to win, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was in some serious trouble at some point in that fight. If you remember, de la Hoya destroyed Mayorga. Two years later, Mayorga gave Mosley all he could handle in his next fight after Cotto. It wouldn't be a major upset if de la Hoya beat Cotto, but I still would pick Cotto in a close decision.

I think your putting too much stock into the Mosley/Mayorga fight; that was Mosley's worse performance in years, and Mosley could have had an off-night. Like Mosley/Vargas 1, Mosley should have won a lot easier, but struggled a bit; and in the rematch, he dominated and KO'd Vargas.

How do you think Cotto would do with the version of de la Hoya Mayweather faced?

Cotto would be in a VERY tough fight, and Cotto would have to move up to 154lbs; DLH with the edge.

However, Cotto is definitely much younger than the aging De La Hoya, but not necessarily a better fighter... :O

Likewise, De La Hoya was waiting for a good timing to deliver a well-timed left-hook to the liver.

Unfortunately, the time never came, despite having Pacman right there moving side to side in front of him delivering his little fists to his body and his face, till his corner seen enough and said 'no mas'... :O

What, thats bull crap, how do you know if he's fast enough, so you know all that right now huh? Look-we'll see that's all I have to say-we'll see. You can stop speed with precise timing-we'll see. Cotto can fight in either orthdox or southpaw remember that. Yall act like Pac man is the man of steel or something.

1st round he should just feel Pac out-just 2 see how he can handle his speed, but he has 2 remember to do some feints. After the 1st he'll go back 2 his corner and let him no how fast he is and they'll work on a plan that I know Cotto will follow 2 the T. Pac is driven by the crowd-so if Cotto can get a good shot in Pac will come str8 @ him tryn 2 get him back and thats when we'll know if Cotto can handle his speed or not him or not. If you watch-Pac imo doesn't fight w/ a plan-he's all off emotion and how the crowd is responding 2 what he's doing. Cotto need's 2 lay hands on Pac and immediately play counter puncher but don't wait 4 Pac-if he's moving away he needs 2 be jabbing @ him while he's doing it. When I say counter puncher-I just don't mean wait 4 Pac 2 swing slip or block then come back-I'm talkn feints make him miss come back-jab him (cause Cotto has a pretty good jab) and mix his punches in and when Pac over extends himself like he usually does go str8 2 his body and attemp 2 finish w/the uppercut. It wasn't difficult 4 Marquez 2 catch Pac w/uppercuts. Everytime Pac comes in he over extends himself and he right on u @ that time right there his body is wide open.

CSiX you hit it right on, Cotto's timing is key to the outcome of the fight. if the timing aint there, he will follow hatton's footsteps to the hospital.

I'll make a final decision on this after the weigh-in. As of now I have taken Cotto to break Manny down in the middle rounds, but I can't say I'm confident yet with this pick. My main worry is the lack of experience in Miguel's corner and also of course whether he can cope with Pacman's handspeed and footwork. It's such a tough fight to pick and I'm surprised so many are writing-off Cotto. I'll make a final decision after the weigh-in when I see what condtion these warriors are in.

Timing and the jab. IMO, those are the 2 key things that will determine this fight, and it depends on Cotto. If Cotto has success with those 2 things, Pacquiao is gonna have a very bad night......... and if Cotto isn't successful with those 2 things, he's gonna get destroyed.

Paulie, Mosley, Judah, etc. had speed or better boxing abilities than Cotto, but Cotto neutralized their advantages with his timing and jab.............

Cotto's ability to time his opponents is one of his strongest points, and I think many people don't notice how good Cotto's timing is........

I picked Pacquiao by KO6; but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Cotto to KO Pacquiao in 6............. This is why this fight is the biggest fight of the year IMO.......... it really can go either way.
