Which of the two gameplans should Cotto apply against Pacquiao?

Which of the two do you think, gives him a bigger winning chance?

A) Be the agressor, plodding forward, throwing his bodypunches trying to break Manny down

B) Counterpunching approach. Take what he learned from the JMM/Pacquiao fights and apply it, moving around waiting for the counter (I.E. he did some of that vs Mosley)

Floyd dont wanna lay on the ropes in a Margarito fight like he did with Hatton. Everything Tony throws can hurt you. Gotta stay completely on the outside like Mosley did.

It annoys me when folk mention Baldomir as an example of how a Floyd V Margarito fight would have went.

No way does Floyd have as easy a ride with the Margarito who faced Cotto.

Did you see how easy of a time Cotto had with Margarito in the 1st half of the fight? And Cotto's boxing ability isn't close to Floyd's......... I think it's a pretty good assumption that Floyd/Margarito would look like Floyd/Baldomir. Margarito is definately a better fighter than Baldomir, but styles make fights, and both would lose a decisive UD.

As for the 140lbs Cotto/Hatton debate; Hitking is right, Cotto never made any efforts to fight the linear champion in Hatton. Whether Cotto would have won or not, I'm not too sure, as Cotto seemed to get stronger at 147lbs......... his fight against Hatton would be at 140lbs, and tough to say what would have happened.

I agree with you evaluations! The one thing that you did not mentioned is Prettyboy get off on other boxers aggression as in Corrales and Hatton. Cotto did not beat Mosley, he was awarded a gift, which hurt his boxing growth. As I said before, boxing is the only sport where the beat up loser wins.

When you claim to be the greatest and you fight a guy a helluva a lot smaller than you who does present the biggest challenge and you cant put him away it doesnt help your case any.

I think its safe to say that Mayweather, Mosley, or Cotto would be tougher opponents for Pavlik than Lockett, Rubio, and Espino. Just because a guy is your size doesn't make him a tougher opponent.

Hasnt really fought anyone his size either. If Pavlik decides to fight someone like Berto and you hear me cheering go ahead and put a cap in my ass cuz I'm gonna deserve it.

As a Mayweather fan, I don't make excuses for him not fighting certain opponents. I simply point out that he has taken bigger fights than the ones most of his critics would rather see. He may not have fought the top welters, but he's always fought top fighters. I mean, its not like he's spent that last couple years fighting the likes of Lockett, Rubio, and Espino.;)

That's the point I was making to 908. We can't ever be certain of what a fight's outcome will be unless the fight actually happens. Just because one thinks Cotto would have beaten Hatton isn't an excuse for him not fighting him.

I don't know what will happen in a Cotto-Hatton or Mayweather-Cotto matchup becasue the fights haven't happen.

You dont need to see Cotto fight Hatton to know he woulda laid him out. Nor do I need to see him fight Floyd to know that Floyd would win a decision. Some things are just that obvious.

I don't know that, and neither do you, that's why they fight the fights. What you're doing is what you've accused Mayweather fans of doing. And that's assuming Mayweather would beat the fighters he hasn't faced. Cotto avoided Mayweather and Hatton at 140. The fact that you think he would have beaten them is irrelevant. HE DIDN'T FIGHT THEM!!!
