For these reasons: Strength wise, Hatton will be stronger, so pushing him around coming forward is out of question. That would leave Pacquiao with getting on his toes and trying to box as he did against Delahoya. As good as Pac looked in that fight, it was largely due to what was wrong with Oscar then what was right with Manny. Manny isn't a good technical boxer, he has speed but no defense like a Mayweather. One thing we know that can hurt Hatton is counter punching. Can Manny counter punch effectively against Hatton? I doubt it. And if he tries to just come forward and bully Ricky, can you seriously say that he can do any better then a Kostya Tszyu, who is a MUCH bigger puncher then Pacquiao and a overall stronger jr.welterweight. So he can't outbox him to a 12 round decision because he lacks the technical boxing skills and defense/discipline. He can't hurt Pacman by being the stronger, more powerful puncher because he isn't (Kostya Tszyu, a bigger puncher couldn't do it) and he can't counter punch the way Floyd did and knock him out. What does that leave him with?

:::::::::::Fair points indeed, except that Virgil Hill fought hardly anyone and never left Bismarck, ND...and the one time he did during his "reign," he got clearly beat by Thomas Hears who was several years past his prime. :::::::::::::::: True dat, but Roy was still relatively new as a LHW and 'some' actually feared Hill's length (jab) and power against the naturally smaller Jones Jr. That body shot!!!!!!!! I still fell it personally!!!

If he would back his play with his fists instead of running his mouth he would make a few more friends. Ali was colorful and hated at the same time. But he fought the very best of his time and didnt make any excuses. If Lil Floyd would try some of that he'd gain a ton of more fans. -- "What good are eyes if the mind is blind?" - Arab proverb

::::::::::::::::::Jones was accused of waiting until the real fighters grew old. You don't remember Larry Merchant complaining he wouldn't fight Hill or McCallum ? Then he splits with dad saying dad held him back and then stepped up.:::::::::::::::::::::: ewashi, You say that you know the game so I'll try this one on for size.... RJJR and James Toney both fought Mike McCallum to give him paydays as many within Mike's time (Leonard, Hagler, Duran, Hearns who he used to CRUSH @ the Kronk gym daily) would not fight him. Donald Curry, considered a P4P great @ the time stepped up and got KO'D in 4 I think.... Virgil Hill was one of the longest running LHW champions... Not too sure why that was a gimme fight... Roy just made it look that way... Some point to Hall, Telesco, Gonzales, Harding, Reggie Johnson, De Valle and talk a pile of shit, but Hall and Gonzalez especially gave Dariusz a HARD time with Gonzalez taking his belt... Harding dropped and beat Antonio Tarver in their first bout... Check your sources son and let me know where RJJR wasn't an ambassador of the sport... Like Floyd, some folks don't like all that hippity hoppity, RAP, gangsta attitude in black fighters, but who really gives a flock what they think, huh?

Indeed, I have been repeating myself how all of the recent great fighters (i.e. Jones and now Mayweather) spent the early parts of their primes facing the best available fighters to boost their resumes/pockets (what else can a fighter do to build his name if he isn't backed by thousands of local fans/a country to get credibility and money early in one's career)...however, as they got vested with the networks, etc., they became more promoters (fighting often decent, yet unspectacular, in order maintain their "Os" and earn as much money while doing it). That's just the nature of the game today fellas/gals. -- http://www.fightinsight.com/2009/05/03/pacqui-wow-manny-pacquiao-annihilates-ricky-hatton/

well jones and gerals mcclellan were long time friends at the time i like mcclellan a little more than jones after he waxed the highly regarded ko artist julian jackson for the second time it was a nasty ko at the same time jones had just beaten toney by unanimous and waxed pazienza...supposedly it was supposed to happpen i dont kno if they would have ever fought cause they were such good friends... but sadly mcclellans career ended too soon when he got in the ring against nigell benn and took way to much punishment and luckily he didnt lose his life... its very sad to see him in that... he was vivacious human being in and out the ring a joy to watch... much props to what he did in his short career......

Those losses held him back....& no one was looking at him to face Jones. Let me ask you.....when was it that Roy Jones fought James Toney, & where was Toney generally ranked as a lb4lber at the time? I think you aren't sure of Jones' timelines, because there was never an outcry for him to face McClellan, McCallum, or really even Benn (except from the Brits. Jones would have destroyed Benn, btw) Back in the 90's, Roy Jones ducked absolutely no one...there was never an issue about, & that's a fact.
