Juanma vs Mtagwa? Why not Celestino?

I'm a little confused about the situation. If this guy is trying to be known as the next Puerto Rican great then I think he should do what the greats did. Clean out the division. I know he's planning on moving up to the featherweight division after this fight but why not leave the superbantamweight division with a bang and take out the champ Caballero?

His plans are to eventually set up a showdown with Israel Vasquez on the eve of the Puerto Rican parade in 2010 and possibly take out Rafael Marquez after that. But why beat up on some beat up dudes when you can take out a champ who's been undefeated for 4 years and boost his status even higher before the Vasquez and Marquez fights?

I guess he's learning from Cotto that its not always wise to fight everyone with a name so quickly. I understand that his management team is probably trying to protect him from suffering the same damage that Cotto's been through but damn, that means I'ma have to settle for Mtagwa instead of Caballero.

I'm sorry but this fight was overhyped in my opinion. Dramatic? Yes. Somewhat exciting and controverial? Sure. Technical brilliance, supreme conditioning and the highest level of skill displayed. No! Fight of the Year candidate? Maybe, but only because of a dearth of good boxing action thus far. I would be more inclined at this point to favor Berto-Collazo over Lopez-Mtagwa as Fight of the Year, to this point. Still entertaining and worth watching without doubt.

I'd seen Mtagwa on FNF a while back and figured he might give Juanma some trouble. I just didn't want to shell out $$$$$ for two non-marquee names. Sh*ts outta control...

Figures it was a great fight. X-(

I also thought he looked really good going into this one. I also never felt it to be a "no brainer" that he would dominate everyone from Rafy to Israel. I still wanted to see him really tested...just didnt ever think that Mtagwa would be that guy. I still think Juanma is very good, still has the same great stuff he did before the fight....he just became mortal in this last contest.

Juanma might very well be that person, lol....... I thought more highly of Juanma before this bout, and I think Mtagwa took a bit of Juanma that night........ but if he didn't, I hope Juanma realizes how much harder he needs to train for the late rounds, and puts in the effort.

Yeah, Mtagwa really shifted the whole dynamic into his favor didnt he? I had it close and for Juanma as well. I hope Juanma doesnt end up being someone who gasses late with regularity. Though...that always makes for some interesting shit, doesnt it?

Toe, after thinking about the fight; if I was to score the bout as a whole, I'd give it to Mtagwa........ but since it's a 10 point-system, Juanma wins.

There were hints in round three that said that this one could get ugly. Great bout.

Juanma was boxing Mtagwa; but Mtagwa's pressure eventually forced Juanma to stand his ground at times, and that's where Mtagwa got the better..........

I had the fight scored 7 rounds to 5 in favour of Juanma, with both earning 10-8 rounds each........ Might be FOTY.
