Kelly Pavlik: "It could be a late stoppage"

KELLY PAVLIK: "IT COULD BE A LATE STOPPAGE"

"There's a guy right here, he's a veteran, he's a future Hall of Famer, he's a legend and it will be a great fight for me to go in there and show what I can do. If I can dominate, which no one has done against him, I think that would be a big notch on my belt. I think it's definitely going to be a big W. It could be a late stoppage," stated undisputed middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik as he talked about his eagerly anticipated clash with Bernard Hopkins this saturday. Check out what else he had to say as he talks more about the fight, his preparations leading up to it and how his life and career has changed.

Kelly should stick to boxing. Apparently fortune telling isn't his forte.

I'd be intrigued to see a RJJ/ Bernard Hopkins match up but I wouuld fear that there would be some kind of silent agreement between the two to sit back and play counter puncher so to speak then collect a pay check. Bernard really did have a lot to prove and a lot of naysayers in this fight. His only motivation for RJJ will be the money, but everyone will be saying Hopkins is great because of his last performance which equals NO motivation for Bernard.

That may have been part of Kelly's problem tonight. He thought this was going to be a fight that he would dominate easily because of all the props he's been getting.

Quit while lookin' good as a 4-1 underdog,
Mr Hopkins and never look back I still say.

I'm not sure that would work Tan. One good thing about Hopkins is he is consistent. No mater what, he goes into the ring and sticks to his plan. Since he always does the same thing, I don't think someone simply saying something is going to affect the way he fights.

No stoppage here, either way. Unless Hopkins manages to pull of his fave lead with the head, left hook/tie up Pavlik's right and land a square perfect right of his own-doubtful.

Dangerous fight for Pavlik though. Good learning vs one of the greatest defensive fighters ever. He will win with the same formula as he did with Taylor II and Calzaghe/Hopkins. Jab, right hand, outwork him, slightly cautious.

Stilll a big risk. But I can't pay for this one. Nobody from 160-175 is knockin Hopkins our anytime soon.

If Hopkins loses, what are his options? Slap around one of the pretend LHW of hope for a Jones win and one more payday?

Props to both guys for takin this fight.

You said it all when you neither picked Hopkins or
were willing to pay for the 5 round practice run
before B-Hop starts to fade. There is NO risk here
other than looking bad against an aging fighter.

What I'd pay for is a defense against any of the
top 3 MWs. That would be the way to match a
prime Hopkins.....by cleaning out his old division.

What I refuse to pay for is watching an old fighter
stay in the game too long ala Ali/Trevor Berbick or
Norton/Cooney.

My bad. Thanks for the correction. I was very small when Walt Frazier was playing and didn't even know he went by Clyde.
