Klitschko-Ibragimov unification bout set for Garden

Klitschko, Ibragimov agree to February title fight

There hasn't been a universally recognized heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis retired in early 2004, but titleholders Wladimir Klitschko and Sultan Ibragimov will get the ball rolling toward filling his shoes. They agreed Tuesday to a unification bout.

After more than a month of negotiating, they will meet Feb. 23 at New York's Madison Square Garden. HBO will televise the bout live.

Behind every sarcasm there is an element of truth. :^O

Quite frankly, if it only goes 2, I'll be pretty disappointed, but if the two rounds look like this Klitschko vs. Tyson footage, it may be worth it.

The fact that his fight with Austin went ten more rounds than did Wlad's gives me as much insight as I need.

Well, Ray Austin queered him up pretty well in their 12 round blood 'n guts battle, so my jury's out on his chin vs Wlad until I see him get nailed a couple times. In the interest of seeing a decent fight, I hope he does hold up to a few good shots.

Wlad's system is just so tough to beat now.
He keeps his right glove up and holds off on using the right hand early....wearing guys down with the jab, until they arent as dangerous. Then he unloads the right hand. If they get close, he clinches. Tough to beat that.
The baby left hook is nice too.

I see it basically the same as you.

I don't forsee Ibragimov giving Klit a whole lot of trouble, but I do think that Sultan can take a pretty good punch from the bigger heavies.

Klit's gonna have to land repeatedly, and heavy on this guy but I think he'll be out of there by the 10th.

I see Ibragimov giving Klit some minor problems. Sultan's hands remind me of Sanders' hands and... well... uh... but Ibragimov is not as big nor as big a puncher as Corrie and I think that he will be more susceptible to Klit's power than Klit will be to his.

Klit's jab and feet will keep him from sustaining too much damage, but because of Ibragimov's above average (for a HW) hand speed, I think Ibrag will probably land a few decent shots and possibly even win a round or two. That's about as far as it goes though. I expect that Sultan will be be stopped by around the 8th or 9th round.

How 'bout yourself, Pug?

Actually, Klit has been vying for unification bouts, but the problem in the past had been Don King. He (who promoted everyone holding the other belts) wouldn't agree to a bout unless Klit agreed to let King fuck up his career.

I got Wladimir winning this one. I don't think Ibragimov will have the tools to fend off Wlads vicious jabs, or that devastating right.
