Lightweights

"Tampa, FL: IBF / WBA / WBO Unified Lightweight Champion Nate Campbell is patiently waiting to see who his next fight will be against. "We have a WBO mandatory defense due, so we are waiting to see whether it will be Casamayor, Khan, or Peterson", said Terry J. Trekas of One Punch Productions, Campbell's co-promoter alongside Don King.

"We will go through the motions with this Casamayor thing and present an offer to Golden Boy, even though the likelihood of Joel actually fighting Nate is less than 1%. We can't really do anything else at the moment, because until the WBO actually strips Casamayor, or he vacates the WBO Interim title, any move by us for another fight could cause Nate to be stripped of the WBO title. Now I'm sure that Frank Warren wouldn't shed a tear over that, because he would like to make Khan the WBO champ, without having to fight Nate, but rest assured that we will do whatever we have to, to make sure that our WBO mandatory obligation is fullfilled."

"If Amir Khan wants the WBO title, sooner or later he will have to see Nate Campbell about that. Now when (not if, but when) Casamayor declines the Campbell fight, should Khan elect to step aside for now, then hopefully the WBO will name Anthony Peterson as the mandatory challenger, and we could do that fight. As things stand, we are just waiting for the Casamayor situation to run it's course, and then whether it's Khan, or Peterson, we WILL do our WBO mandatory defense to retain the WBO title." said Trekas.

"And as for the talk of Campbell-Pacquiao in the fall, well of course that's a very appealing fight, but at this point it's just talk. Pacquiao has to deal with David Diaz first, so any discussions about anything involving Pacquiao in the future are irrelevant until after his June fight. People seem to think that Pacquiao has already won that fight or something, but he's in tough on June 28. David Diaz is no cupcake. No guarantee Pacquiao wins that fight. And no guarantee that even if he wins, that he stays at 135" said Trekas."

In what way is Juan Diaz an easier fight? Do you think that Casamayor has the power to get his respect like Campbell did?

I know everyone wants to see Joel Casamayor-Nate Campbell, but Casamayor has already beaten him once and is getting more money for what will probaly be an easier fight with Juan Diaz. Casamayor needs to eventually get to Campbell, but everyone wantsto fight the champ and Campbell is just going to have to wait his turn.

A poosible Match-up betwwen Guzman and Campbell may pop off this summer, and I feel Guzman has the tools and finesse to do it, but it will definately be very hard work on Guzmans part to outwork the old workhorse, who outpunched one the most high volume punchers, Juan Diaz.

Frank Warren revealed in his latest "Frankly Speaking" column that Don King recently traveled to the UK and the two promoters held a meeting to discuss several possible key bouts for the future.

The two were working hard to hammer out a deal for the November meeting between Joe Calzaghe (now a light heavyweight and still the WBC/WBO/WBA super middleweight champion) and Roy Jones Jr (former four-division champion). One of the other discussed bouts would pit undefeated lightweight Amir Khan and WBA/IBF/WBO champion Nate Campbell.

Warren hopes to officially announce some of the bouts discussed in the next few weeks.

"I had some fun last weekend when I took Don King to see Arsenal's home game with Everton at the Emirates. He has got are some decent fighters, and we discussed some huge match ups for the next six months or so. I'll be announcing them in the next few weeks," Warren said.

Campbell probably would be a bit big for JMM....but, though JMM isnt a huge puncher, his shots do have some jazz to them, and he has a pretty sound defense.

I think this is one of those situations like Morales had a problem with. He was good at 130 but 135 was too much. We'll see.

Marquez will have to bring something to hold Campbell off. If the Campbell that fought Diaz fights JMM, he wouldn't see the final bell. Too big and too much output for someone like Marquez. I don't see it being all that competitive after the first 3 or 4 rounds.

Unless Campbell pulled another Peden, he will horse whip JMM.

Khan on the other hand will be a more difficult matchup for him. A fight I definitely would like to see.
