Manny Pacquiao Doesnt Impress Me At All," Says Miguel Cotto

The Puerto Rican news website elnuevodia.com is reporting today, that one of its country's most recently famous boxing superstars, Miguel Angel Cotto, has spoken out in an interview.

Cotto, it claims, is not concerned in the least regarding the 145-pound catch weight that has reportedly been agreed upon by both boxing camps as well as Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum.

This is only the beginning of what will no doubt be a hype filled four months leading up to a?soon to be announced?welterweight super-fight between the Puerto Rican born Cotto and Filipino No.1 pound for pound sensation Manny Pacquiao.

"Its no concern of mine whether it is 145 pounds, or not," said Cotto.

"That is the usual weight that we cut down to for the weigh in, and in the ring?on fight night?I will go up eight to ten pounds, so actually during the fight I will weigh around 155," stated Cotto.

Cotto also made statements regarding Pacquiao's performances in his last three fights, where he achieved victories over David Diaz, De La Hoya, and Ricky Hatton in three different divisions.

"I'm not impressed at all by him and his so-called speed and power, he has two arms, and a head and so do I," said Cotto, who after his fights with Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey is fast becoming the blood-and-guts-throw-back-style warrior that the sport is in desperate need of.

When asked about this great opportunity for him?with a win over Pacquiao?to become the top boxer on the worlds elite pound for pound stage, the modest Cotto simply shrugged it off by saying:

Opportunity's in life arrive when they arrive, we deal with them when they get here," he said.

To sum it up, the Puerto Rican slugger also said Tuesday: "we are awaiting confirmation of the fight, and when it arrives we will be very seriously committed to putting on the greatest fight possible for the fans, Thank you.

How can anyone stick up for Margarito? I dont get it? I would never defend Bonds, ARod, Clemens, Sosa, they are freaking cheaters, no matter when they started.

I don't think anyone was sticking up for Margarito. He lost me as a fan, after the Mosley incident. I'll admit that I doubt his win over Cotto, that win has a big question mark on it and its hard for me to give him credit for it now. I put Margarito on the backburner for now, if he can somehow come back and redeem himself in a big way (which it will be hard to do) then I can probably forgive him. Other than that, Margarito is no longer relevant in the fight game.

Whats crazy, there really is no fight i do wanna see MArgarito in? I dont wanna see a rematch with Mosley, i see the same thing happening. Only real fight for him out there is the rematch with Cotto, and thats if Cotto wants to fight him again now.

To be honest,no! and only because he DID have wraps which were found to be illegal confiscated from him right before a fight!

It's more my dislike of cheaters than my preference of fighters when it comes to this issue. Not only was he wetting his wraps before he fought Mosley but putting tape directly on his hands.Which is another no-no.Now for any boxer who has been in that business that long cant tell me that they just go there and stretch out their arms and not see what is going on them. Are his hands that numb from prior use that he didnt realize it?

All I know is that if I was on that level, fighting, and people say im cheating with illegal wraps,I would be waaaaaaaayy more vocal about my innocence. It seems that after Margarito beat Cotto that he was on every show,at every fight talking shit but since he got caught before the Mosley(look at his face when he is stretching before the bell rings)fight he has been in hiding.

why not be out there proclaiming your innocence?

So Cbee, if Margarito was out there proclaiming his innocence at every show and every fight, would you believe him ??

Carlos,

the rematch between the Cotto and Margarito will answer all your questions. Thats the only way we will know if Margarito cheated or not, and its the only way we will know who the better fighter is.

If Margarito loses to Cotto the way he lost to Mosley, then we can write off the first fight as a fluke and we can confirm that he did in fact cheat.

If, however, Cotto loses the rematch, then with or without loaded gloves, Margarito is the better fighter and the first fight was legit. Then the loaded gloves issues will be irrelevant at that point and can no longer be used as an excuse.

Like I said, all this will come to an end when the rematch happens. Chuuch.

Na im calm homie, i just dont agree with everything you said. Yes Cotto was pounding on Margarito but he tired late and was gassed and was bleeding out of his mouth, & nose, Mosley wasnt, so Mosley was able to sustain his attack throughout the fight, Cotto wasnt. Cotto definitley got whipped like a stray dog, i dont disagree with you & i dont even think we should do anything about that loss, its just what it is, a loss, i just think without the plaster cotto outlclasses Margarito big time (with or without a knockout)
